An Air India flight en route from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport to Delhi was diverted to Kolkata on Sunday, June 29, after passengers onboard experienced an unusually warm cabin temperature during the journey.

The flight in question, AI357, made what the airline described as a “precautionary diversion” due to the persistent cabin heat, prompting the flight crew to reroute to the nearest suitable airport to ensure passenger safety and comfort. The aircraft landed safely in Kolkata, where it is currently undergoing a technical inspection.

Confirming the development, an Air India spokesperson said: “Air India flight AI357 operating from Haneda to Delhi on 29 June 2025 made a precautionary diversion to Kolkata due to persistent warm temperature experienced in the cabin. The aircraft landed safely into Kolkata and is currently undergoing checks.”
The airline noted that alternative travel arrangements are being made to fly affected passengers to Delhi as soon as possible, and ground teams in Kolkata are actively assisting travelers during the delay.  “Our ground colleagues in Kolkata are providing all necessary support to passengers to minimise the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen diversion,” the spokesperson added.  “We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers.”

While Air India has not detailed the specific cause of the elevated cabin temperature, routine maintenance checks are underway before the aircraft is cleared for further operations. The airline has reiterated its commitment to ensuring passenger safety and a prompt onward journey.
