I Hiked the Highest Mountain of Okinawa

i have a question to you have you ever done something like this going from the sea to the summit of a mountain i think I haven’t and today I’m planning to do such a thing going from here from the sea on the island of Ishigaki Japan to the highest mountain of all of Okinawa let’s go let’s start the journey this is not the highest of the mountains but I think it will do for a nice midday adventure if you have been following me for some time then you will know that I like going hiking during the hottest part of the day my trusty yellow Hummer let’s get some drink or something it may get very hot i may get thirsty oh so conveniently a vending machine green tea sports up whatever it is i think it’s isotonic drink like with the minerals so 150 160 70 80 that means 320 yen for two drinks i think I see the mountain that one covered with clouds this might be the one the the tallest one covered with clouds of course like the tall mountains like to do but uh we have time it may clear up 10 kilometers of cycling and then the hiking gonna start you can see the whole of island from up there they say let’s see let’s see what we see look pineapples for Kinawan pineapples are some of the sweetest that I have tried okay 5.8 kilometers okay 5.8 and then then we walk to the highest point in all of Okinawa region i may have noticed the one of the coolest Japanese things find you find lots of cool and interesting things especially away from big cities it was probably erected I don’t know 50 years ago and it’s still here fun fun sites a few more kilometers to go a couple more to go and then the hiking starts i am expecting some nice views actually even if there are clouds it may actually make it even cooler okay and I think here we turn in let’s check the Yeah 1.4 kilm 1.4 km to Mount Omoto trail head okay mount Omoto the tallest of them all here on these islands of Japan in the very south of Japan in Okinawa i see you Montoto doesn’t look like the easiest and smallest mountain okay it’s going to be a sweaty ascent let’s see in what condition is the rail i don’t know if this is already considered the season or not yet and if not yet if it’s all overground maybe huh a foreigner I think with a backpack look like a hiker or mountaineer maybe he’s also going to Monto Oh yeah speaking of this island and if you are coming here especially for a longer stay I think it’s very important to have some form of vehicle at least a bicycle or at least you rent a bicycle for those times when you’re going somewhere further and you plan But because uh you can do things on public transport but it’s not easy here it’s it’s taking quite a lot of time because the transport goes very infrequent it goes you can use it but it’s maybe way too infrequent for you you know what’s interesting i think I know this place i have been here on the very first day in Ishigaki this time when a friend of a friend took us to this place hello took us to this place to watch fire flies at night straight from the airport we came here and this is the trail head okay a little bicycle somewhere and go bicycle locked here we go to Mount Omo the mister explained to me that uh he’s sitting there until like another hour and then another person is coming to I don’t know watch over that place but he said that he’s not taking responsibility for anything left there at the same time he said “Yeah it’s fine lock the bicycle to the tree [Music] now this is where it gets interesting because I don’t know where do I go from here.” Water source health insurance maybe there I see a trail but I am expecting that it’s something simpler maybe maybe this road maybe this mount omo dark entrance this can maybe take a stick this is how you travel in Japan water resource conservation forest always with a translation app close by it’s fine it’s It’s fine it It’s easy actually because of how welcoming and friendly everyone is and um then it’s easy to get uh the answers find solutions i have never had any problems in the five months that I have spent in Japan so far i yesterday calculated that in the last 14 months we would not have spent five months in Japan three in Thailand then a month in Vietnam almost a month I was traveling across Europe some 11 countries yeah but the thing is that it feels nice being in Japan and Thailand i do see lots of similarities between those countries i see how Thailand is slowly evolving into becoming a somewhat similar country despite how different also is at the same time okay it’s hot humid the reviews say that a walk can take like 90 minutes to go up or 30 40 if you have strong legs i think I have pretty strong legs so I’m thinking of probably doing this in 1 hour going up and down let’s see i’m using Straa to record this walk it’s actually nicer than cycling because I’m not in the sun still very humid but half a kilometer done i read that it’s 250 2 and a half until the top okay no internet that means no translations let’s trust me and these pink ribbons Beautiful a turtle in the forest first time I see such a sight oh many lizards ones are very beautiful with the blue tail i must have read something wrong or maybe I’m just messing up something but it’s definitely not a one hour total thing I have been doing i have been walking for 41 minutes starting from the place uh from the parking from the trail head have done 1.7 kilometers okay yeah a sweaty walk nice one easy to follow no one at the moment i have seen no one i think maybe that one guy is doing this but uh he must be then ahead of me we’ll see but uh looks like we might be getting to the top getting out of the forest actually these are bushes and grass and super hot here again it’s super hot oh oh now you tell me how far is the summit because I don’t see anything oh I see a this ball kind of structure 460 4 70 480 we are at about 480 elevation and 526 is the peak and I hear someone speaking in English coming down the mountain
hello
hello how’s it going
good good it’s hot
thank you yes pretty warm
sorry you’re getting close that’s That’s great um getting close to the summit yay so there were three people keep out we don’t know don’t go here we keep moving through the forest so that’s not the peak that building is not on the peak of the mountain uh Is this it wow to Yeah to one side I see it’s super beautiful stretch of land down there and see but um h I want to see more okay nice nice nice beaches down there and I think I see the biggest water reservoir on the island 1 hour and 5 minutes almost exactly 2.5 kilometers a bit more to here so 2 hours of walking total if you have strong legs we are not going as fast than maybe three three and a half he said it’s not nice but it’s nice when you reach the end there’s going to be a nice view let’s go let’s go oh I think this is the this is the actual peak 526 m so do we Oh wow oh yeah now I see now I see don’t stop there by the tower go a bit further to see this see you soon most likely still from Ishigaki Japan see you [Music]
