Hydrangea enthusiasts can enjoy a carpet of the flowers now at a museum in western Tokyo’s Fuchu city.
A hydrangea festival is underway on the grounds of the Fuchu Municipal Museum Kyodonomori, featuring 10,000 hydrangea plants of about 30 varieties.
Annabelle hydrangeas, with white ball-shaped flowers, are covering a mound on the premises.
Other hydrangeas are blooming near a restored late 19th century to the early 20th century drugstore and farmhouse.
An exhibition of more than 100 kinds of potted hydrangea plants is underway. Visitors are enjoying watching the flowers and snapping photos.
A woman in her 20s from a nearby city said it is great to see such a variety of hydrangeas in one place. She said she was able to photograph the colors of the flowers.
Museum official Kashiwa Naoki says some flowers have lost their color after being exposed to the glaring sun for days, but many still are in full bloom and beautiful.
The festival runs through next Sunday.
