Yamadera – Temples on Bear country and township shrine celebrations (#009)
oh Oh Good morning So the first night from the haunted hotel So I actually survived the first night um at the haunted hotel and uh it was a very very rocky and rough sleep to be honest I have some slight back pain because uh I don’t really have a bed here I have like a traditional Japanese bed which means like you see here like several layers of very thick mattresses or like not even mattresses like dick blankets or some sort of I uh kind of modified it a little bit I used two of those chairs and built some kind of like uh yeah I don’t know some some backs so I can lean against that And besides that man I heard some crazy noise like some strange noises here and there uh in in the night you know some cracking here some there And uh yeah actually I also um let the light in the entrance floor on because otherwise uh otherwise you know I did not want to give any ninjas any uh advantage of being in the dark So in order to see the shadows of the ninjas if they try to backstab me and also some demons that might come out of the closets and trying to drag me into the abusers No just joking I’m fine Uh it was it was all fine here Uh it’s just like uh yeah a very a very rough rough bed Yeah Anyways um today I want to hike some shrines And guys if you if you like what you see please like and subscribe It would help me greatly Thank you Honestly guys the weather could not be shittier It’s raining and the forecast says it’s raining all day every day But thankfully I could rent out a an umbrella from the uh accommodation place from the hotel So yeah nothing will stop me from escanding to the shrines because this is the only day and the only chance I have And yeah I’m going to make lemonades with the lemonades they give me So before we begin the ascent to this uh shrine we have to get there anyway which will probably take an hour by public transport Uh currently I’m just on the way to the public transport to the train station from this uh suburb and then we head into the uh into this direction I bought the ticket but unfortunately the next train is leaving [Music] in almost an hour I don’t know man I I’m not sure if I wait a full hour here Uh I need to see if I can get there faster Man if I’m there it’s already 11 12 you know I don’t want to waste so much time going there We will see Maybe there’s a bus or something I need to check [Music] [Music] I am [Music] So I finally made it to Yamada Um and uh you can already see uh where we have to go See there this is where we go This place looks like it’s stopped in time So cool Unfortunately it’s still raining here as well but uh yeah it looks so cool here I don’t know if you can see this There will be some stairs for sure but thank god I have an umbrella with me Definitely saves my ass this time So apparently I just spoke to a local and uh she said that there will be a parade today around I think 2 or 3:00 p.m which is uh yeah nice we will which will we definitely also check out Um first I I want to climb or ascend to the shrine and then afterwards we can check out the parade but I haven’t found the the the the road yet uh which leads to the ascending of the uh mountain So I found the start of the trail and uh I was I was escorted there again by super friendly locals Man the the locals in Japanese and Japan they are different kind of uh breed of ness They’re super nice super welcoming Again thank you so much Japan for their hospitality I think that’s how they prepare for the festival today Maybe I found it This is so cool man This is where it start again Okay Admission fee paid Let’s go I don’t know Good morning Oh man I don’t know how many stairs I already took But it feels like a million And I also don’t know how many stairs they they are still awaiting me Probably also a million But I definitely think it’s worth worth it I will ascend and I will be victorious This mountain really feels like you’re in a fairy tale or something It’s so cool It’s the coolest place on earth I could ever be right now Let’s go [Applause] Uh yeah Uh yes for sure Just I need some some time to relax So I just took a break but now I can finish the summit Benjamin Benjamin [Laughter] Do finish Thank God But there’s the there’s the finish Wow Wow This place is so beautiful Kitty say there what’s there
ah This is ah okay
You can also go there Wow Is that one wow Oh yeah Oh cool Wow Wow Finish I finally made it to the highest point And if you can see down there this is where we started today It’s down there That’s where we started What’s your miss
hi [Music] So let’s go down
After spending some time here and soak in the uh atmosphere it’s about time to go down So I finally made it downstairs again and I think the parade is just starting Um yeah I think the parade just starts If you see they line up and there are those uh finally made it to Okay so we made it to the crowd and now let’s go to another place It’s actually also a shrine It’s a cave That’s so interesting man [Music] That was very impressive I definitely would like to know what’s the purpose of the festival So in order to get to the shrine I have to uh go direction northeast I was asking a police officer and he suggested the opposite direction but I think he did not understand me properly He thought I want to go uh to those uh shrines I was already there So I disagreed with him and uh I just go the uh opposite direction now Yeah but it feels good to be in rural Japan Yeah this is like something I for a very long time I always wanted to do This is this is the side of Japan I always wanted to see you know Look at this I could see myself hunting and fishing here with a bow with a spear with a horse I might go to Mongolia and buy me a horse one time one day Humanity evolved into civilization I debuff back into the wilderness but it’s a long way to go still Actually I don’t know if you can see it down up there There are also like some kind of uh uh holes or caves and carvings I don’t know if if it’s like this by nature or if uh they carved it inside the the stones but it’s so impressive man You know I always I’m always amazed by how people with far less technology you know back in the day centuries ago how they could form and crush nature with the limited uh technology they had Or maybe they had technology that was long forgotten But it still always amazes me how they did that And I was right Not trusting the officer He actually misunderstood me He was thinking I wanted to go to those shrines I was there before But actually this is the right path because as you see as you can see I’m almost there See that’s where the tori gate is That’s why it starts Man can we appreciate how beautiful it is where we are walking it’s really crazy Yeah It’s like in a fairy tale of Princess Monokei or something Yeah So that’s where we’re heading now This is a cemetery [Applause] Some graves are really impressive I like the simplicity you know very very straight edges and stuff you know very straight edges and stuff I kind of like the design of the tombstones Yes Let’s go Man I can tell you stamina wise this is this is definitely not for the faint-hearted but it’s worth it It’s definitely worth it if you ever wanted to experience like this Japanese fairy tale forest atmosphere then go for it Especially in this weather I rather go in this climate in this weather condition because there are less people and also it’s cool I can’t imagine going here when it’s actually warm or you know warmer and dry I rather have it cold and wet Afterwards you know after summiting after summiting some temple shrines two times you definitely earned your visit in the onen And that’s how you do it At least that’s how I want to do it Man I can’t wait for the onen today after all this Look how beautiful it is I’m not very good in kanji or hyagama but I can tell you that this means be be careful There are deers bears and boores So I don’t know Uh somehow my lens is not working right now but uh I definitely can tell you if they put up the sign there could be beers bars or deers here So I better watch out because I don’t uh I don’t have a beer spray Honestly I I I I really don’t know if I what happens if I encounter a beer Wow I’m a little bit terrified from the from the bear side Now I see a cave for bears everywhere I think up there There it is Finally Yeah I think this is it Yeah Is it there remains yeah that’s where we go Not further Wow I got to say I really love Japanese architecture Wow Now the sun comes out Today is really a day where you have all almost all weather scenarios Take that Now the sun is coming out and it’s still foggy I’m actually glad that I took this way Even though I was kind of ter terrified by the sign that says that there could potentially be bears but uh it’s all fine Maybe the sign is also if you go much further up which I will not do I already did enough stairs today Now can’t wait to eat something and uh get refreshed in a very nice onzen Actually I think this is the next thing I do Go to an onzen I heard some strange noises man Somewhere from this area It sounded like some weird bird chips but uh could also maybe be bear cups I don’t know But I don’t want to take any chances So I just passed by the uh Beware of Bears sign There you go And now I’m safe from bears No I don’t Safe from bears No I don’t [Applause] I could not have chosen a shittier weather but honestly I don’t care I like the vibe So I’m back in the small town ship of Shamada And actually it’s still going on See there’s the parade going Actually I’m just walking straight to it I think that’s some kind of pancakeish dish I don’t know pancakes or something Hi I was up there and I was also up there like the the to the thousand temples and there also no finish
Oh So uh what is this uh this festival about what is this festival about you can speak in You can also speak in Japanese Ah Japan go marriage and then the child birth the procession where parents leave their children
married and born okay
bye-bye
baby bye-bye okay baby girl okay

Have a nice day
Thank you You too [Music] Oh Wow Wow At first I thought what the is going on this was a very nice day We actually saw a lot today H I can’t wait to jump into a nonsen So I’m signing off for now So guys uh as always please like and subscribe if you want to see more There’s definitely more to come And with that I’ll leave you for today Say another Peace
During my time in yamagata i went to the small township of yamadera. There are lots of shrines to visit and the way up the cliffs through the forest to the shrines is so magical! This place was so mystical. For some shrines you actually see, you cross bear country, so better take bear spray with you! After i visited all the shrines, i spent some time at the small street fair celebration in the center of yamadera.
