【台湾旅行】 日本人が知らない秘密の観光地・阿里山! レトロな阿里山森林鉄道に乗り、巨木の檜の森を歩く旅【VLOG】
Alishan Forest Railway, Shenmu Station What a cute train. Don’t film me. Film the scenery. Three-Generation Tree Alishan tea and dango Hot pot Going to see the sunrise on the Alishan Forest Railway’s Zhushan Line These have been two tough days for you, haven’t they? Yeah. It was hard for me. The bus from Sun Moon Lake to Alishan Our reserved seats are numbers 16 and 17. Bus Staff: Do you have a prepaid transportation card? We don’t have a Taiwanese prepaid transportation card. 672 TWD for two people
(about 3300 JPY) A prepaid transportation card is essential for traveling in Taiwan. We made it onto the bus to Alishan safely. That’s right. Reservations are required for this bus, but the confirmation email was in Japanese. And the sender was a Gmail address. My wife is too absorbed in her game to give a proper reply. The bus departs. Did the bus break down? It sounded like it broke down. Oh, this is where we rode our bikes. This is a photo we took here. Our last view of Sun Moon Lake. Arrived at Alishan. Right after arriving, other tourists ask me to take their picture. Tourist: Are you from Japan? Tourist: We came here from Japan. Tourist: We went to Japan. What country are you from? Tourist: America. Tourist: We went to “Kusu” island in Japan. “Kusu” island? Tourist: K-Y-U…SHU. Tourist: Kyushu! Hakata is part of Fukuoka Prefecture. Tourist: And we also went to Okinawa. I was surprised they were an American couple. Tourist: Could you take our picture? Déjà vu? Déjà vu?? It’s a different person. Tourist: Where in Japan are you from? Hyogo Prefecture ≒ Kobe It’s near Osaka. Tourist: Last year, we were in “Tokayama”. “Tokayama”? Okayama! Okayama and Kobe are close, aren’t they? Tourist: We stayed in Okayama for about two weeks. They were in Okayama for two weeks! Tourist: It was last November. Tourist: How long will you be staying here? Just one night in Alishan. Tourist: How long will you be in Taiwan? About two weeks. Tourist: You can go to many places then. If you carry a big camera, you get asked to take pictures often. A restaurant near our inn. Lunch. The only side dish for lunch is stir-fried vegetables. A simple meal. I’m sad that lunch is only stir-fried vegetables and white rice. The rice looks good, though. Is it decent? … My wife has no comment. After-meal coffee. Mountain hike. Alright, shall we go? Film the scenery. You don’t need to film me. My wife refuses to be filmed. I’m not in the mood. My wife’s energy is super low. We just keep walking on a path like this. I wonder if the view would be beautiful if it were sunny. The weather is bad. Just keep walking. The Three-Generation Tree. First generation, second generation, third generation. The “Three-Generation Tree” is an old cypress with three generations from the same stump. The first generation is said to be about 1,500 years old. Only a piece of the first generation is left. It’s withered. Back to endless walking. Another big tree. The mountain railway. Is that red thing in the distance the train? Oh, it’s departing! The train is so cute. Let’s take the next train if we can. Alishan Forest Railway, Shenmu Station. Got the tickets. The train is here. From Shenmu Station to Alishan Station. 100 TWD (about 500 JPY) Departure. It’s leaving. The cypress forest spreading across Alishan. Arrived at Alishan Station. Souvenirs. Oolong tea. Maybe I should buy some tea for my dad. My wife’s father likes tea. Her dad boils water and drinks tea every day. Let’s definitely buy Alishan tea. It’s either oolong or black tea. We’ll buy this. This is oolong tea, right? A souvenir for her dad and mom. Shopkeeper: 150 grams (in Japanese) The content is 150 grams. What a cute bag. Eating tea and dango. One skewer of dango is 30 TWD. Should we buy some? I want to eat dango with tea. We bought one cup of tea and two skewers of dango. This tastes just like Japanese dango. Does it go well with the tea? The tea is more expensive, after all. One dango skewer: 30 TWD (about 150 JPY), one cup of tea: 80 TWD (about 400 JPY) Yeah, the tea is 80 TWD per cup. Time to eat the brown sugar dango. I ate two in one bite. Mmm, delicious! Dinner. A restaurant near our inn. We waited 40 minutes to get in. Hot pot. Looks delicious. Mapo tofu while the hot pot is cooking. It seems like firm tofu. It’s delicious. Ah, it’s spicy. I can’t eat spicy food. The hot pot is almost ready. Looks delicious. The soup is delicious. The soup is delicious. Finished it all. That was a great meal. It was delicious. The soup was especially good. It’s worth queuing for. Day 2 Alishan Station, 6:18 AM Going to Zhushan Station by train to see the sunrise. If we’re lucky, we can see the sunrise over a sea of clouds. Watching the sunrise at Zhushan is a classic route for Alishan visitors, so it’s very crowded. A long queue. Getting in at the end of the line. Oh, the train is here. There were too many people, so we couldn’t get on the first train. Such a huge crowd. Maybe we were lucky to be on the second train. The second train doesn’t seem as crowded. No, no, no, it looks like it’ll be crowded. I think the cars will be full. How many minutes does it take to get to Zhushan Station? About 25 minutes, I heard. The ride is 25 minutes. The first train departs. Entering the station platform. A station announcement is made in Japanese. Our train is here. Good, it looks like we can get a seat. The second train is definitely less crowded. We got seats. Departure. 25 minutes later. It’s foggy. Arrived at Zhushan Station. It doesn’t look like we’ll see the sunrise. The weather is bad, so it seems we won’t be able to see the sunrise. I can’t see anything. It’s sunrise time right now. The sky is completely covered in clouds. But I can’t see a single thing. Let’s go to the viewing spot anyway. There’s nothing but clouds, I wonder what everyone is taking pictures of. Can’t see anything. Maybe they mean we should just take a picture of this photo of the sunrise? Shall we go back? We couldn’t even see the sunrise… Let’s go back. We’ll walk back. Just keep walking. It’s like an ascetic practice. Asceticism. Just keep walking. We’re back at the foot of the mountain. A dog enters 7-Eleven. The dog blocking the entrance like it owns the place lol. Good for you, dog, getting petted. The dog even strikes a pose like a model. You’re the idol dog of Alishan. Leaving Alishan. From Alishan to Chiayi Station. Alright, let’s head back. This is a nice-looking train. We boarded safely. Departure. There aren’t many Japanese tourists in Alishan, but there are quite a few signs in Japanese. Time to say goodbye to Alishan. It was a tough two days for you, wasn’t it? It was cold and we walked a lot, so it was hard for me. It was cold, wasn’t it? Spring seems like it would be better, with the cherry blossoms. It was cold and very foggy. We couldn’t see the sunrise because of the fog and clouds. The weather is so important for travel. It was like ascetic training. On the way back from Zhushan, I wanted to take the train. You should have said so. Stopping midway. So noisy. Is that whistle the signal for departure? Did we miss it? You don’t seem very worried for someone who might have missed it. No way!? We made it. Next destination: Taipei
