Japan π―π΅ Okinawa Day 1: Exploring My Ancestors’ Place
this is my first time in Naha is this your first time in Naha no my second time second time long time ago oh wow like 2016 2016 oh Okinawa have I believe a connections strong connections with myself and my family because our roots or part of our roots comes from here from Okinawa so this experience is going to be where I belong that’s a song name right well actually no I know where I belong i belong here i belong here but it’s more like understanding a little where I come from and a little bit of my roots my mom’s roots my grandma was born there in Peru but all her family was came from Okinawa one of the question is what happened uh why they decide to come to go to to Peru we’re going to try to find the specific answer not like a general one but more like if we find them their names in the day they left this city and and and yes let’s see come with us in this new adventure i’m very excited you’re very excited or just excited just excited just excited okay she’s going to be excited soon hopefully and yeah let’s start [Music] so the airport seems to be pretty small ah rental car over there temperature now okay temperature oh my god the hot air it remind me to Vietnami welcome to Okinawa this is my very first time in Okinawa and I’m here with Risa which is in the camera thank you so much Risa for recording all the time my personal assistant so today today we have or this following days we have a an adventure answers questions to answer uh we’re going to explore the city with a car that we’re about to rent and we’re going to try to enjoy as much as we can regard around the culture around the um the beaches hopefully we have a good weather it’s very hot today and let’s start this adventure come with me so I don’t know how much I’m going to record from the experience but I’m going to try to record as much as possible because sometimes I just I’m hungry and I I don’t record because I focus on the food but I’m going to do my which is important but I’m going to do my best to record as much as I can and now while we wait in the bus um the shop for the rental car is pretty close so I wonder what kind of car they’re going to give us i hope a good Ferrari oh no see yeah we are the only ones here okay waiting for the car there’s some paperworks we finished the paperworks and we are about to get the car i wonder what kind of car it is because it’s like decided by them but it’s Toyota and we have a Toyota Yis small one i’m going to show you in a moment [Music] finally we have the car and here is the driver the best driver ever and sure so safe so far safe so far yeah okay so the mission of the day of the moment is to find something to pick up my family in the airport we just pick up the car pick up the family go for food and potentially I think after that we go to the um uh castle or the library to find information about my family and as you can see this is the highway we are heading to the airport and there’s this train monoral I think uh interesting you know the first things about Okinawa they told me is there’s no trains but there’s actually some trains it’s just not as common as Tokyo wow very bright very sunny so I I guess this is a chance to show you the car which is pretty simple car uh and it’s a Toyota um we’re renting these two days for 177,000 which is this much US dollars uh for two days including the insurance and yeah I mean I think um I think it’s it’s okay [Music] [Music] my mom mama delegation it’s a beautiful library and it’s the main library of Okinawa Perfecture so we have an appointment with someone that got information about my family we just met the person who is going to guide us and is a researcher and I think he researched about the history of Okinawan people and we’re going to have a meeting with him i’m very excited his father’s name was Seiko Seik and he was Seiko’s second son [Music] there was a Yago culture pre before it became part of [Music] So it’s the same location based on the the address at the time oh father yeah so he immigrated first in 1906 he was the first person from the family to go overseas 1906 1906 to Hawaii wow for the US and I think they Yeah this is Hawaii so and if you scroll down number 30 is Fore [Music] [Music] commerce assoc and this one peru this is This is Nago different different place oh how big this is really interesting this shows records on households Japanese families living in Peru as of the 1950s we just finished the visit with the staff we have an appointment with the staff and the Okinawan prof library and we did a research about my family and the backgrounds and the roots and they did a pretty good job about where we come from and it wasn’t something some something simple as a search on internet it was a huge research on books maps to understand where they come from day of migrations what they did um and the the tree the family tree so I’m very touched at the moment trying to process all the information we collect but uh yeah I’m very happy as well and uh still many questions to answer after many other questions the adventure continue and now we know that part of me come from some places around here in Okinawa wow this looks like Hokkaido hokkaido miami no no miami we just check in and now uh well we’re in a small hotel in the city pretty simple just for this couple of days we didn’t want to spend too much we go to the beach come with me it was a 30 minutes drive from the city and we are in the beach churasan right outside of the city uh we got some recommendations so we believe that should be one of the best around here and let me show you because I have I think a beautiful view of the beach look at this i guess in Okinawa we find several types of things that we can find as well in Tokyo but we found something cha this is like Okinawan and stuff from Coca-Cola but cha which is tea i don’t have idea what kind of drink is this but let’s try 140 and it’s like 170 this is one of the most expensive things here in this machines ah the cocoa is more expensive so whatever go ah no we go here 170 we introduce oh we press again 170 and then I want water so this is water and there you go yay what is that what is that it’s called sincha and I have no clue what it means so we’re going to Oh it’s like ah it’s called It says jasminty oh but Okinawan version okay I’m going to try is it actually jasmine tea it does taste like jasmine tea but it’s a little different it’s I don’t know i like it it’s refreshing okay more sweet although it’s not like artificial sweet i think it’s natural sweet sugar no you don’t feel like sweet as well no no no but it’s more sweeter than just normal jasmine tea [Music] [Music] i don’t feel like this a great spot
