Japan

In a landmark development for Japan’s inbound tourism from India, the number of Indian visitors in May 2025 crossed the 40,000 mark for the first time in a single month. Official figures report 43,000 Indian arrivals during the month, reflecting the growing appeal of Japan among Indian travellers.

The increase is attributed to Japan’s wide-ranging seasonal attractions, strong cultural pull, and seamless travel infrastructure. May is considered an ideal time for Indians to visit Japan, aligning with school summer vacations in India and following Japan’s Golden Week holidays. This allows for better availability of accommodations and services, coupled with comfortable weather conditions for travel.

Japan saw a record 233,100 Indian arrivals in 2024, and the momentum has only intensified in 2025. Between January and May 2025, an estimated 142,400 Indian tourists visited Japan, a 39.6 per cent jump over the same period in 2024 (102,100 arrivals).
