great time and stayed out for about another hour but we had to call it a night cuz we had a few things on our agenda the next day naminoyu Shrine literally means shrine above the waves perched on a cliff overlooking the East China Sea it’s considered Okinawa’s most important Shinto shrine and holds deep cultural and spiritual significance for locals the site was originally a place of worship for the local Rayukuan religion before becoming incorporated into the Shinto practices during the Maji era before the Maji restoration Okinow was the Rayuku kingdom and the shrine reflects a fusion of Rayukuan spiritualism and later Shinto customs in the early 20th century the shrine was ranked among Japan’s nationally significant shrines known as Kokui Shosha like much of Naha Naminoyu Shrine was destroyed during the battle of Okinawa in 1945 it was rebuilt in the 1950s with subsequent restorations preserving the architectural beauty and importance the shrine overlooks the ocean and was traditionally a place where fishermen and sailors prayed for safe voyages the diet enshrined is Kumano Sanshin a combination of three dietes worshiped for protection purification and prosperity it hosts New Year ceremonies weddings and seasonal festivities like si goan for children’s growth and health [Music] [Music] [Music] all right we just checked out that shrine uh we’re walking to lunch it’s like We can still take photos somewhere else 20 30 minute walk to lunch uh but we’re feeling pretty energized quiet up a little got a nice little walk along this canal going to go get some lunch [Music] so that’s going to be it for our time in Okinawa unfortunately I ran into some hard drive issues and I lost the footage from the rest of our time in Okinawa and our next two days in Kyoto but pick back up with us when we will be on our last day in Kyoto we go to a monkey park and feed some monkeys and we also visit the castle where they film Shogun [Music]
