Exploring Tokyo Japan with Our Baby (Everything We Did)

tokyo welcome to Japan [Music] so we’re starting our day here at Sensoji Temple this is the oldest Buddhist temple in all of Tokyo it was founded in 628 but it was destroyed in World War II so it had to be rebuilt pretty interesting if you’ve never watched our channel before we’re Eric and Sarah and we’ve been traveling for 4 years with just the two of us but we recently had a little baby so this is our first country we’re doing as a family of three and uh it’s already been a bit of a reality check having a baby because we had every intention of being here at 7:00 in the morning but oh no I’m also sick jet like baby as we wake up at 4 in the morning and so we had every intention to be here at 7:00 but we’re about 2 hours late so it’s already crowded but this is family travel I guess that’s right I came here though the other morning when we first got here uh because I was up because of jet lag and it was beautiful peaceful I had the whole place to myself um but right now we don’t and that’s what it is if you’re interested in seeing more of Japan we are going to be here for a full month eating tons of food and renting a camper van going around in the countryside seeing a completely different side of Japan and we’re making our way to Kyoto so definitely subscribe because we have tons of videos coming [Music] [Music] okay it’s time to check our fortunes and Omi Cooji probably saying that totally wrong but you got to shake this thing and you dump it out till you get a stick come on 62 now I have to find the corresponding fortune excellent fortune trouble and disaster are getting off as oh trouble and disaster are getting off as time passes by sign of fortune is opening and coming to us your fame and honor rise over all society those old and ancient got renewed then you can get income again getting success in life and wealth you are really busy and prosperous okay you are really busy and prosperous i am very busy and prosperous you’re right your request will be granted the patience will get well soon the lost article will be found the person you wait for will come building a new house or removal will both be well it is good to start a trip both marriage of any kind and new employment as well wow i can pretty much do anything in life now we just started a trip so I feel like that’s that’s great fortune spot on excellent fortune we’re taking that home with us yeah i’m keeping this one [Music] am I ready for this regular fortune you have desire to be superior to all others if you are a strong warrior which I definitely am you can catch and control the whole country by just one arrow amazing will become well known to all countries getting much income thus all your relatives can be prosperous your request will be granted the patient will get well your lost article will be found but late i will find it but it will be late building a new house and removal are both well it is good to start a trip marriage and employment are both well nice those are going to go well those are amazing that’s a good fortune it it says regular but like if that’s a regular fortune I’m pretty happy so we managed to get some good and regular fortunes but it is possible to get bad fortune and you can actually leave your bad fortune behind the idea is that you just tie it to here and you hope for good fortune in the future luckily we got good fortune right off the bat um but you know I definitely would be leaving some bad fortune behind if I got it and it’s time for a little pit stop hey sir the irony that there are like a million people on the other side of this building when all it takes is for you just come to the other side and this whole stairway and beautiful like doorway just have it to ourselves oh it’s so peaceful here in the shade loving this so nice a baby makes you go slower but it’s not necessarily a bad thing just take it a couple breaks [Music] so I feel like back home like 7-Eleven you don’t really get food there like for me like I’m not getting food at 7-Eleven cuz it’s just sort of like gas station food but here in Japan like 7-Eleven is like where everybody comes i was I’m on like the Facebook groups for like expats in Japan and like in Tokyo and everyone’s like the first thing that I’m doing is getting some oniri from 7-Eleven and that’s what we’re going to do they have everything here look boiled eggs this is strip squid shrimp [Music] green pepper pork chicken other chicken that’s wild seafood salad man the selection is crazy okay odi what are we going to get here let’s try tuna mayo you want two each oh yeah i don’t have enough hands for this i can hold things too i only have one okay okay four oniris and two drinks let’s do it [Music] decent oh that’s good wow [Music] already obsessed with the comedian stores we have locked out completely with the weather here in Tokyo today it is gorgeous but last night it rained a ridiculous amount like we wanted to go out for sushi and like we had to do it but it was soaking wet it was insanity i don’t know why we didn’t turn back cuz we had juniper and our umbrellas were blowing all over the place and it was so chaotic it was just downpouring totally i think that was like one of the things when we were packing for this trip we weren’t totally sure what clothes to bring because of the varying temperatures and precipitation and I think the biggest thing for us is shoes we never really know which shoes to bring thankfully for the last 3 years we’ve consistently traveled with our Vessies who are actually the sponsor of this video we absolutely love our Vessie shoes they are so comfortable and lightweight they’re 100% waterproof cuz they’re made with Dateex outer material which is actually crazy like they do not get your feet wet at all it’s like I don’t really get it like I think like with runners I feel like my feet are always getting soaked but with these it is amazing that it just wicks water and completely keeps your feet dry even in big storms like we had last night and they’re so versatile we have pairs at home we have a pair for the gym we have more casual pairs we have our travel version we just love them they’re also just really nice shoes like they’re really stylish they go with a lot of different outfits which is a big thing when you’re traveling because you can’t bring a lot of clothes uh so if you’re interested in checking out Vessie we have a link in our description and you can buy a pair buy a pair for yourself get some get some man get some Vessies we love them we have lots literally wearing them right now all the time all the time [Music] started with a sleeping baby and ended with a sleeping baby but there was a lot of in between [Music] welcome to Shuya this is uh one of the busiest places there is in Tokyo there is a crosswalk that we’re trying to get to um you’ll see why the hype is there but we’re literally in a like a lineup to get to it there’s that many people we thought there was a lot of people earlier this is insanity i can’t believe that anyone that lives here would choose to take this way home there’s people that look like they’re just commuting home from work and I feel like I would avoid this at all costs oh absolutely but it’s cool what do you think Sarah should we be doing the diagonal crosswalk yeah I think we just go fully chaotic i’m not going to go in a single cross i’m just going to go all over the place oh sorry baby all right we’re going scrambling oh boy go left go a diagonal oh yeah i’m scrambling oh my goodness you are scrambling you can go wherever you want this is This is wild this is fun it’s super fun i wish every crossoff was like this oh quick it’s turning red [Music] scramble really chaotic thing to do with a baby this is what we were expecting when we came to Tokyo all the anime signs the flashing lights oh yeah oh the chaos it’s crazy i can’t believe we’re actually here it’s amazing this is like okay we’re in Tokyo this is sick heat heat n [Music] so we came up to the top of the Magna Building Shabuya 109 has a nice view of the crossing so we’re just hanging out up here you can get a drink included it’s 18 bucks but yeah $18 but drink included it’s kind of a vibe and lots of people yeah there’s lots of people up here there’s a nice viewing deck you can get to see all like the colors and like the the visuals of the screens and stuff it’s really fun this is cool i’m having a great time up here [Music] oh baby i feel like this is what Japan is all about you order something and it just shows up on a conveyor belt uh we are at Kura Sushi this is a Kitan sushi chain and Kitan Sushi basically just means conveyor belt sushi or rotating sushi so this is something we’ve wanted to do basically ever since we thought about even coming to Japan and now we’re doing it yeah let’s see if I can do this with one hand so how this works is you get an iPad with all the menu options and you can just scroll till you find something you like click on it say how many you want click order and then they send it down the belt and it just keeps a tally of all the things you’ve ordered and it’s all attached to your table number pretty handy so fun actually i wish every restaurant was like this i’m going to order so much food there are a lot of options look at this so many options should we try one of everything i think we’d have to save that for another video all right so we’ve never really eaten in a place like this before we’ve eaten a ton of sushi in our life but uh I think this menu actually has a ton of different options on it so in good fashion we’re going to start with stuff that we know so we got ourselves some tuna some salmon some crab some squid i don’t know if I’ve ever tried squid before and then some miso soup which is always always a fan favorite um and then we are going to go up from there miso is delightfully salty love that that’s all I think too she thinks I’m hungry yeah that that arm’s pretty tasty okay i want to eat one of these then it’s your turn okay tuna salad that is really good that tastes like a tuna salad sandwich as a sushi roll honestly that is delicious i have a feeling we’re going to be here all night oh yeah absolutely i want to just sit here and keep eating these already okay you try the other two just the mid dinner sleepies is this like a custom order okay so when you order your food all of it comes through the top conveyor belt but another really cool option is that there’s this bottom conveyor that’s just always passing by with different types of food which I think is quite smart because sometimes you don’t really know what it’s going to look like maybe it’s something that you want to just try um I think I just need to like pick one i try that one i don’t even know what that is i don’t know i feel like that’s the danger of it is like what is that just do it [Music] i think that’s how it works did it get added to our order let’s check or did you just steal someone else’s food no way i don’t think I stole i don’t see it added to our order oh I don’t know ah just in time my beer perfect i was worried this would never come i love that it comes in a bowl that’s so awesome wow look at that thing of beauty can I have the first sip you can if you want yeah [Music] mostly foam but it is yummy that was a better sip that’s a good beer excellent cheers cheers i’ll have the rest i’m realizing just now this was kind of a risky move i’m not a very picky eater but um genuinely have no idea what this is spicy still couldn’t tell you it’s some type of fish with rice have a very distinct palette i know exactly what I’m eating at all times fish and rice you know there really needs to be a term for people that really enjoy eating good food but aren’t foodies you know anyone else fall in that middle category of like you really like to eat good food but you don’t have a very exquisite eye for it i don’t know just like just normals just like regulars you know what I mean i think I figured out what I got spicy cod inards are you happy about that choice i’m not happy about that choice i would never order that myself i don’t think I would have eaten that had I known that’s definitely what it was wow you’re so adventurous now i know i’m amazing okay now I think what we should do is order something for each other so like I got to order you something uhoh and you got I trust you you can definitely trust me i’m the most adventurous eater yeah but I I think that you’re going to go easy on me because I already ate the weirdest thing here that’s true i’ll see what I can find my gift to you i genuinely do not know what it is cuz none of them have descriptions so I don’t know what was it called let’s get a closer look it’s called Arkshell oh don’t fall apart on me now definitely some sort of like shell fish or something it’s really good it’s really tough looked really slimy was it slimy it was slimy kind of just tasted like clam not bad sir i actually didn’t mind that one i tried to find one that was unique but you would actually like just so you know so you could do the same for me yeah i’ll go something funny ooh what is this this looks yummy wow is that some sort of cheese on top looks crispy a smoked something some sort of fish cherrywood smoked yellow tail wow that sounds delicious now for the best part got to slap these guys in here why is this so fun oh yeah you put five plates in there now there’s a little game on here you really could spend all night here eh that’s so fun what does that mean that was the whole game no wait ah it doesn’t really matter that’s pretty fun i would definitely do that [Music] [Applause] [Music] we’ve made it to my guilty pleasure stop i have been playing Pokémon for as long as I can remember and uh this is a Pokemon center in Japan i feel like this is just like a nice full circle moment for me really excited to be here is this the whole reason you brought me to Japan this is the I’d say like 90% of the reason never seen Eric this happy in my life i’m I’m pleased i’m very pleased such a child i love this just a big kid this is great a little torch chick for Judy cute that’s a really cute one that is very cute [Music] never seen Eric this happy in my life look at this guy he’s in his element this is just making me crack up because Eric is the least souvenir oriented person I’ve ever met like we don’t collect really any souvenirs and if we do it’s usually me that you know encourages him that we should buy it when he just asked me if he could do a second walk through to look at all the things to just make sure he wasn’t missing anything so I’m just so bad i just think it’s so funny eric loves Pokémon clearly I think this is like the perfect for Judy you know just a We don’t have room for this i’m not getting this right now i might have to come back like at the end of our trip cuz I mean it would squish in pretty good it would fit it’s so comfy feel this feel this right now that is really cute actually like that would be She would love this so would Okay maybe at the end of our trip because we won’t have any of her diapers or things and we can replace it with this at the very end heat heat [Music] vibe this is a vibe yes shabuya at night this is like prime Tokyo lights uh I feel like such good energy such good energy i love this this is really great honestly fantastic day in Tokyo oh I feel like we did so much today totally there’s exhausted there’s a ton of stuff that we wanted to do but we couldn’t do partially because we don’t have enough time here partially because we have a baby now uh but you know what we’re going to be back and uh you know we’re loving it tomorrow actually we are going to Shinjuku the only neighborhood that we wanted to go to but we couldn’t today for a food tour yeah so subscribe if you want to see that we’re really excited to try some Japanese cuisine that’s right and otherwise we’ll see you in the next one ciao

  1. WE’VE MISSED YOU!
So happy to be back travelling again, this time with our newest little buddy. Tokyo Japan felt like the perfect start to family travel.

Have you been to Japan before? We’re making a whole series here so don’t forget to subscribe to see more!

  2. Actually, I might need to try Vessis. It's rainy season here in Mexico. A lot of times, it looks like rain all day, but doesn't rain. I've been hesitant to buy rain boots because I do have to walk a lot and that wouldn't be comfortable…and especially frustrating if it doesn't end up raining. I got caught in the rain the other day and my tennis shoes obviously got soaked. Today, I decided to wear flipflops in the rain b/c I can just rinse them and they'll dry quickly..but my feet froze.

  3. This was really fun to see you travel as a family of 3. Juni (did I hear that correctly?) is lovely, and you both look even more comfortable as parents than I suspected. ❤ Congratulations and I'm thrilled for you! 🎉
Also, the Pokemon store was a very cute marriage moment. I felt just like you, Sarah, when I went with my husband to a weekend computer programming camp and he was the most enthusiastic that I'd ever seen, voluntarily taking selfies with programming celebrities. 😄
I look forward to seeing what else you three have gotten up to there in Japan, especially the countryside excursions! 🤩

  4. So happy to see you traveling again! Also, absolutely love how you are showing the realities of traveling with a baby, without making it the “Junie” show. You are striking a really nice balance. We can’t wait to see what’s next for you guys!

  5. Enjoy your trip in japan,, hope you explored the city, in tokyo,
Any place, in japan,,, enjoy your journey,, and, have a great day. 🇯🇵👍

  6. Once you've drawn your fortune, you should leave the area immediately! It's a hassle for other people because they can't draw theirs!

  7. 夏は観光客減るだろね
    日本の夏は外国人からしたら味わったことないらしいし

  8. Congratulations on the baby🍼 and you're in our favourite enigmatic place in the world that we keep going to.every chance we get🎉

Travelling with Juniper seems so easy peasy for you guys
