Tokyo, June 24 (EFE).- The Gracery Hotel in Shinjuku, Tokyo, celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2025 and for the occasion will launch a new themed room on July 1st, centered on a battle between the creature Godzilla and his archenemy, King Ghidorah.
The room, located on the 30th floor of the Toho building in the aforementioned Tokyo commercial district, the ‘Godzilla floor’, houses a huge 1/50 scale model of a confrontation between both ‘kaiju’, as these types of beasts are called in Japanese, whose film genre was popularized by the radioactive monster.
The 32-square-meter room is adorned with a mural depicting the destruction caused by the confrontation and has an interactive panel that allows tenants to make both monsters roar or change their lighting.
One of the reasons for choosing the three-headed dragon King Ghidorah for the new room, explains to EFE Hiromi Honda, director of the commercial department of the WHG chain to which the hotel belongs, is its popularity inside and outside of Japan.
“Dragons are also especially popular in Asian countries, from where tourism is increasing,” says Honda.
They also found it appealing that the decisive battle of the specific film that inspires the fourth one, ‘Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah’ (1991), takes place precisely in Shinjuku.
The new room incorporates other details with cinematographic references, such as a director’s chair with a clapperboard and several direction megaphones, as well as tables that simulate buildings potentially destructible by the creatures or a themed bathroom with adaptable lights in the bathtub.
By introducing all these interactive elements, “we wanted guests to feel immersed in a movie with this stay, rather than just enjoying it by watching it,” says Honda.
The room is one of the initiatives for the hotel’s tenth anniversary, commemorated on April 24th, and joins the luxurious ‘Godzilla Room’ for which the place was already famous, crowned by a huge head of the monster visible from the outside, as well as six other rooms with views of the bust and another 36 more simple but equally decorated with elements of the creature.
The price per night for two people in the new ‘Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah Room’ is 122,400 yen (about 730 euros).
On July 1st, the hotel’s bar-cafeteria (lounge) will also begin to offer menus and drinks inspired by the golden dragon.
The hotel’s popularity led it years ago to close its reception to the general public, decorated with film posters, statues, ‘merchandising’ and other elements such as large temporary dioramas at the entrance that recreate scenes from the films.
The current display, based on the film ‘Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Daikaijū Sokōgeki’ (Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: The Imminent Attack of Giant Monsters, 2001), showcases an actual Godzilla suit used during filming.
