10 Best Places to Visit in Shibuya, Tokyo – Japan Travel Guide 2025
i’m walking through Shabuya today to show you 10 of the best places to visit in Tokyo hey everyone welcome to this video and if you’re new here I encourage you to uh hit that subscribe button uh if you like this video uh at the end and uh before we begin I have written this book called Touring Tokyo uh this is my first book that I wrote i’ve written about six books so far uh and this one is uh very very good in terms of understanding Tokyo and I talk about 10 uh must things to do uh in this book uh so uh you’re here because you want to learn about 10 places uh to visit in Tokyo we’re going to start out with number one and that’s the Shabuya Scramble Crossing if you don’t know the Shabuya Scramble Crossing is the world’s largest pedestrian crosswalk and about 3,000 people cross this crosswalk every day it’s very very uh stunning and I have been to the crossing many many times i have done time lapses i’ve done all kinds of cinematic footage on the Shabuya crosswalk and it is a very appealing place to be one of my favorite places to uh shoot the uh crosswalk is the Starbucks there is a Starbucks on the second floor right across from the Shabuya uh scramble crossing and it is a wonderful place to uh capture uh the beauty of uh this area and if you don’t know uh the Shabuya Scramble Crossing was featured in Fast and Furious and Lost in Translation scramble Crossing is a very iconic crossing uh in Tokyo and it is a highly recommended place to visit while you’re in Tokyo the second place you must visit is the Hucho statue located uh next to the Shabuya crossing is this Hiko statue and if you don’t know the story of it or never heard about it here’s basically what it’s what it’s for uh and essentially there was a uh Akita dog who was very loyal and he would wait at the Shabuya C uh station for his uh owner uh his owner was a professor at the University of Tokyo Professor Heday Saburro Uino uh so Akita was born in 1923 and so the dog would wait uh for the professor uh to come home from work one day unfortunately uh the professor uh died from a cerebral cerebral uh hemorrhage uh so he passed away and uh the dog continued to wait at the station for 9 years until its passing so in April of 1934 there was a statue that was created um and it was uh honoring the local dog Akita uh his name is Hico and so this statue is a reminder of the loyalty that Hiko had uh with his owner uh the professor at the University of Tokyo so it’s a very heartwarming story and uh a very iconic uh statue uh at the Shabuya crossing that we highly recommend that you go to and take pictures of it uh when you’re in Shabuya all right so coming up at number three is the Shabuya Sky [Music] and this is uh Shabuya’s tallest skyscraper in Japan uh it’s a rooftop observation deck located on the 47th to 49th floors of Shabuya Scramble Square and it’s known for its 360 open air views of Tokyo and on clear days you can even see Mount Fuji uh this uh Shabuya um sky is really the Tokyo from above you can see uh many parts of Tokyo uh from the Shabuya sky it’s an open air deck with panoramic city views and includes glass walls but no ceiling giving an exhilarating sense of openness uh you there’s even iconic photo spots like the sky edge where you appear to be floating above the city uh it is a very uh spectacular landmark uh to to visit and you will be stunned by the beauty of the city of Tokyo from the vantage point of the Shabuya sky i’ve been to the Shabuya uh sky both during the daytime and nighttime and by far I prefer the nighttime uh because it’s just a very uh dreamy and mesmerizing uh place to be uh at night all right so the fourth place to visit in Shabuya is the Shabuya 109 if you are a fan of shopping this is the place for you uh this is basically a legendary fashion landmark uh that draws people all over the world to come to it is a a place that you could spend a lot of time in uh in Shabuya it’s a basically a cylindrical fashion community that was opened in April of 1979 so it was originally aimed at women in their 30s with operating hours from 10 to 9 uh hence the name uh 109 uh so 10 and 9 um and then it quickly evolved into a trend hub for teenagers uh and women in their 20s embodying Tokyo’s cuttingedge street style so it’s a very uh iconic uh shopping area in Shabuya and it’s a must visit uh when you come to uh Tokyo this uh particular place it has 10 floors and uh about 120 uh boutiques clothing accessories cosmetics cafes restaurants um and there’s a lot of name brands at this Shabuya 109 so it is a highly recommended placeh to visit in Tokyo and it’s right across from the Shabuya Scramble Crossing so as you can see all four of these landmarks that I’ve shared with you are in close vicinity and they are must landmarks to visit in Tokyo number five is Miaita Park [Music] this is a cool place where you can do a lot of everything there’s a rooftop park with grass and places to relax a skate park and climbing wall if you’re into sports and lots of trendy shops and cafes and you’ll find places to eat uh Japanese food get coffee or just chill with your friends and there’s even a hotel and some nightlife spots and it’s super close to the Shabuya station uh so this uh Miaita Park is like a modern hangout spot built on top of a building you to check out while you’re in Shabuya it’s not located uh very far from the Shabuya uh crossing and it’s a very cool place uh to come and hang out uh you can visit during the daytime and nighttime uh and you can uh see uh parts of Tokyo uh from above uh so they have renovated it and it looks awesome uh very very stylish uh and there’s a lot of artwork on the uh on top of the building uh so it is uh a great place uh to hang out in Tokyo all right so number six is the Shabuya Disney Store if you’re a Disney fan like me uh you can find all kinds of Disney uh themed uh souvenirs inside this store uh you can find plates and cups you can find figurines like statues of Disney characters and it is a a fun castle themed shop located about 5 minutes from the Shabuya Scramble Crossing there are three floors and you can find Japan exclusive products and uh so I actually filmed the entire store uh and was able to capture uh everything literally uh from all the merchandise uh to just the scenery uh itself it’s a very cool uh tour uh to experience uh at the the store just seeing all the Disney uh characters uh and uh it it’s very very cool uh and you feel like you’re a kid when you enter the store now you may not know this but you can actually buy Tokyo Disney uh sea and Disneyland tickets there uh you’ll have to ask for them uh but this is a really cool uh and exciting place to go to in Shabuya number seven is the street art uh in Shabuya [Music] when I was walking through the city I noticed a bunch of art and I was just amazed by the the colorful and lively uh murals that were uh painted uh on the walls and while you’re walking through the area uh you’ll see history uh and you’ll see uh really uh pages of action uh on these walls that they are telling a story about something or someone uh so it’s a very unique uh place uh to explore uh take pictures and capture the beauty of these um images on the wall what you may notice in Tokyo is that um the country is famous for artwork uh and you will see that in terms of the presentation of the food uh you will see that also in uh terms of the manholes so Japan is a country of artwork uh and uh you will see that when you come to Japan uh it is a very beautiful uh country to see uh the amazing art that’s displayed all throughout Tokyo and especially in the Shabuya area number eight is Shabuya Hikari [Music] uh this is a 34story uh skyscraper uh that’s located not too far from Shabuya Scramble Crossing and it combines shopping food entertainment it is a massive place that uh there’s a shopping uh areas uh that feature over uh 200 stores um and this is called the Shinq shopping area it spans the third and the fifth floors um and it features all kinds of name brand clothing stores fashion beauty etc just a wide variety of restaurants and cafes that you can try uh in the Shabu Shabuya Hikari uh everything from Japanese cuisines to Italian dishes and international flavors um one of my favorite spots uh in this area is the 11th floor and this is a um basically an observation um view or they call it the sky lobby and there’s free views uh you can capture the Shabuya Scramble Crossing uh from uh above it’s a very uh spectacular place uh to be on the 11th floor number nine is Mega Don Kyote [Music] and this is a flagship discount store that you can find really all over Japan and you can uh find a lot of souvenirs there with this particular uh uh store you can find an aquarium on the first floor you’ll see a couple of eels a couple of fish uh and this place is massive it’s called Mega for a reason and it features eight floors [Music] anything that you’re looking for in Japan you can find it at the Mega Donote and really any of the donyotes in Tokyo and again they’re spread out all over the country uh it is a great place uh to go to uh while you’re in Shabuya uh so the uh you can get everything tax-free as long as you have your passport uh and you’re a visiting uh tourist uh in Shabuya uh so I highly recommend that you go to the Mega Don Kyote and experience it for yourself you can find all kinds of uh souvenir shirts i’ve gotten some shirts i’ve got keychains i’ve got magnets like I have loaded up on all kinds of souvenirs uh so you will be able to uh find a lot uh when you go to Don Kyote i think maybe your biggest challenge will be uh getting too much you it will be very easy to just uh uh pack your um your uh basket full of um all kinds of souvenirs but so I do hope that you’re able to explore the uh uh Donote uh and see it for yourself and last but not least is the Cosmo Planetarium if you want to find a place to relax under the stars I’m not talking about the real stars but the animated stars go to the Cosmo Planetarium uh it is definitely worth the visit uh it’s basically a relaxing budget friendly spot uh where you can escape the city hustle and take a journey through space all from the top floor of the Shabuya Cultural Center uh so this is a short walk from the Shabuya station and it’s basically a cozy relaxing dome theater that shows the starry skies and the constellations and the planets and the cosmic scenes using both classic and modern projection uh technology so I will tell you from my own experience the seats are very comfy uh and some can even swivel so you can even lean back and get a full view of the sky above uh the shows are in Japanese but the visuals are so stunning that you can enjoy them without knowing the language so each show lasts about 45 to 50 minutes and cost only 600 yen for adults and 300 for kids so my experience there was great uh I was able to relax i was able to calm down destress uh and so I hope you’re able to go to the Cosmoplanetarium uh and find relaxation there all right so those are 10 things that you can uh do in Shabuya and so I hope this video was very informative uh and it was helpful and it better uh prepares you for your uh adventure uh in Shabuya i will say that Shabuya is an amazing uh place uh to uh discover [Music]
