Wild card Naomi Osaka is set to face fifth seed Emma Navarro today in the round of 16 at the Bad Homburg Open. The four-time Grand Slam champion, Osaka, opened her campaign with a tight straight-sets win over qualifier Olga Danilovic, needing tiebreaks in both sets.

Navarro, meanwhile, cruised past Marta Kostyuk with a dominant performance. With both players having picked up a title this season, Osaka at the WTA 125 level and Navarro on the main tour, this clash brings a compelling mix of experience and rising form.

Naomi Osaka vs. Emma Navarro Preview

Osaka’s has been a rollercoaster, marked by glimpses of her old brilliance but lacking momentum. She ended a four-year title drought with a WTA 125 win in Saint-Malo and reached the Auckland final before injury forced a withdrawal.

While she made the fourth round in Miami and Rome, early exits at Indian Wells, Madrid, Roland Garros, and Berlin have stalled her rhythm. Across 20 matches, she’s tallied 140 aces, winning 57.9% on first serve and converting 39.9% of break points.

Navarro opened her year with promise, reaching the quarterfinals in Adelaide and the Australian Open, where she beat Ons Jabeur and Daria Kasatkina before falling to Iga Swiatek. She grabbed her second career title in Merida with a rare double bagel over Emiliana Arango.

But her results since have been hit or miss, with quarterfinals in Charleston, Strasbourg, and London mixed in with early-round losses. Across 34 matches, she’s served 49 aces, won 61.9% on first serve, won 46.1% of return points, and converted 48.1% of break chances.

Naomi Osaka vs. Emma Navarro Head-to-Head Record

Emma Navarro holds a 1-0 lead in her head-to-head against Naomi Osaka, having scored a dominant win in their only previous meeting, last year at Wimbledon. The American breezed past Osaka in straight sets, dishing out a breadstick in the second.

Now, they meet again on grass, with Navarro aiming to extend her upper hand and momentum, while Osaka looks to turn the tables and keep her own campaign alive.

Osaka comes in with more experience but less rhythm, while Navarro has been the steadier performer this season, even if not flawless. Given their Wimbledon history and Navarro’s comfort on grass, the American could edge this again if she maintains her composure. Still, if Osaka’s serve clicks, she’s tough to stop.

Prediction: Naomi Osaka in straight sets
