⛴️ Sailing to Sado Island: A Slow Journey Across the Sea of Japan with Seagulls 🕊️

⛴️ “Before you arrive on Sado Island… the sea greets you first.”

I boarded the Sado Kisen Ferry just after sunrise. 🌅 The air still held a trace of night, and Niigata Port felt half-asleep. The ship moved slowly, quietly pulling away from the mainland, and soon there was nothing but water — a soft, endless blue that stretched to the edge of the world. 🌊

I found a spot by the window and just… sat.
The hum of the engine faded into background noise. Waves shimmered like silk in the morning light. And then they came — a flock of seagulls 🕊️, gliding beside the ship, sometimes above it, sometimes right outside my window.
They weren’t noisy. They didn’t demand anything.
They just… stayed.
Like companions of the sea, flying in slow circles as if guiding the ferry forward. For a while, it felt like we were traveling together — strangers, sharing the same wind.

There was no rush.
No noise.
Just the scent of salt, the sound of water against the hull, and the soft wings above. 🍃

Somewhere between the mainland and the island, I realized — I wasn’t just going to a new place. I was letting something go.

And when Sado Island appeared on the horizon — misty, green, and glowing in the morning sun 🌄 — it didn’t feel like arrival.
It felt like coming ashore in a dream.

🛳️ This isn’t just a ferry ride.
It’s a passage — to an island, yes.
But maybe also, to yourself.
