【衝撃】自作バスで車中泊旅日本海へ!初日『猫』も走るマラソン大会に参戦!

Hi everyone. I’m heading to the northern part of Hyogo Prefecture again. This bus camper passed its inspection in April and got its license plate, but since then, I haven’t had much time. I’ve only managed to take it out for two overnight stays nearby in between work. So this time, even though this camper isn’t completely finished, I’m thinking of trying to spend a few consecutive nights in it. The reason is to check its usability, figure out what’s necessary and what’s not, and identify any issues or points for improvement while it’s still unfinished, so I can apply that knowledge to my future DIY work. The weather is like this today, but where I’m heading in this rain is even further north than Kannabe Highlands, where I stayed overnight the other day. It’s a place called Hamasaka in the town of Shin’onsen, facing the Sea of Japan. Hyogo Prefecture is very long from north to south. In the south, you have Awaji Island facing the Pacific Ocean, and Kobe and Akashi facing the Seto Inland Sea. And then there’s Shin’onsen, where I’m heading now, which faces the Sea of Japan. It’s a very vertically long prefecture. And Hyogo is one of the few prefectures that borders three seas with different characteristics. Well, it depends on the definition of a “sea,” but if we limit it to named seas and oceans, the only ones with three are Hokkaido, Fukuoka, Nagasaki, and Hyogo Prefecture. I bet you all forgot about Awaji Island, didn’t you? That Awaji Island is part of Hyogo. Please remember that. And tomorrow, here in Hamasaka, at the northern tip of Hyogo, a marathon called the “Kirin-shishi Marathon” is being held. Tonight, my team members are gathering for a party, and that’s why I’m heading to Hamasaka. So, although I’m not staying in the van tonight, I’ll eat delicious food from the Sea of Japan, drink with my team, run the marathon, and from tomorrow, I plan to start my overnight trip to a different location. Okay, I’ve arrived at the inn. Whoa! No way! Wow, there’s a Gyoro-san sticker right here. Okay, tonight’s party venue. Wow! Sea bream rice? Yes! It’s sea bream rice. Sea bream, sea bass, and red-spotted grouper. This one is squid. And this here is firefly squid. Firefly squid caught right here. Yes, marinated squid, firefly squid in vinegar, female snow crab… oh, marinated squid. Firefly squid in vinegar. And this is the meat and roe of the female snow crab, mixed together. Wow! There are shells in it, so please put the shells aside. Okay. Right, you always serve this, don’t you? Yes, it’s our usual dish. You always have it. Yes. Grilled turban shells. And, Kasumitsuru sake. Clear soup with blackthroat seaperch. Yes, and dessert. Grape jelly and… Grape jelly and… Kiwi. Is it kiwi? It is. Is it? Is it? Who are you asking? I participate in the Kirin-shishi Marathon with my team every year, and there used to be a pre-race party hosted by the event organizers. We started arriving the day before to join the party, and we’d have an after-party at the inn, eat delicious food, drink, use the hot springs, run the marathon, soak in the hot springs again, and then go home. That became our tradition. The official pre-race party was canceled due to the pandemic, but we still have fun starting from the day before. When I first started joining this marathon, we stayed at various inns, but ever since we stayed at this place, “Marubun,” we’ve been coming back here every year. The food is amazing. In winter, they serve crab like this. The owner is also a certified crab sommelier. It’s a very popular inn. Unfortunately, there’s no crab during the marathon season, but it’s firefly squid season, so we get to enjoy it for dinner and breakfast. In other seasons, too, they serve such gorgeous dishes. It’s an inn filled with delicious food. The facilities are great, and of course, the bath is a natural hot spring. And best of all, the view from this window is incredible. It’s an ocean view overlooking the Sea of Japan. Isn’t this amazing? The marathon course is right in front, so we run right below this window. This means even those who aren’t running can cheer for their friends from right here. It’s a fantastic location. This is the only inn with an ocean view in Hamasaka, so our whole team stays here every year. Thank you very much. In the summer, the beach is right in front, so I think it would be perfect. Alright, with the Kirin-shishi Marathon successfully completed, shall we head to our next destination? Okay, let’s go… Hey, the engine isn’t on. Okay, from Hamasaka in Hyogo, we crossed through Tottori Prefecture and arrived in the northern part of Okayama, at a roadside station in Hiruzen called “Michi-no-Eki Kaze-no-Ie.” We wanted to see Mt. Daisen on the way here, so we drove around the west side of the mountain, but unfortunately, it was cloudy and the summit was hidden. We stopped at a supermarket around Yonago and Hōki Town to buy groceries for today and made our way here. It’s almost sunset, but the weather has cleared up quite a bit. We should be able to see Mt. Daisen straight ahead from here, but it seems to be hidden by the shadow of the mountain in front or by clouds. I’m hoping for a clear view tomorrow morning. The roadside station’s “Fureai Tokusankan Kaze-no-Ie” (Local Products Hall). It has eyelashes. It’s already closed, though. It looks like this. This is the vegetable section. The vegetable section is closed, too. It says it closes at 5 PM. Roadside stations close so early, don’t they? Always. It feels like we always arrive at roadside stations after they’ve closed. I’m going to the restroom. The restroom is over here. Alright, time to start making dinner, but first, this. Here you go. Cheers! Ah, that’s good. Today, it’s Kirin Lager. Two tablespoons. Two tablespoons. Two tablespoons won’t even reach the bottom. Ah, the lid is too small. You have to cook it so it doesn’t turn yellow. Yeah, that’s right. Broccoli. We bought local vegetables at the supermarket. Right, right. Is it boiling? Yeah, it’s starting to boil. Steam-fry, steam-fry. It’s on high heat. It’s still hard. I think it’s ready now. Yeah, it’s pretty much done. It’s a bit loud. The fan is working well. It’s quite impressive. Yeah, looks good. The potatoes are still frozen. Here we go. Olive oil. Drizzle with olive oil. Alright, then. Now that it’s nicely roasted, let’s plate it up. You have to plate it more like this, right? That’s right. Like this? This soy sauce. Drizzle it on. Something like this? Yes. And what we’ve made is Roasted Fragrant Broccoli. This is a white fish lemon pepper sauté I bought at the supermarket. I’m going to steam-fry this. I decided to have some sake today, so I quickly bought some sake cups. Oh, it has a hook on it. Great, now it’s easier to dry my hands. All the trouble of chilling the water… I went to Lake Shinji, so I bought some freshwater clams. You didn’t go to Lake Shinji. Right. I bought them in Yonago, Tottori. Since it’s near Lake Shinji. Are they sandy? Usually, the ones sold at supermarkets have already had the sand removed, right? Maybe so. I think this is ready. Yeah, looks good. Uh-huh. Okay, let’s serve this as is. Like this. It’s a bit in the way. Oval cut complete. Okay, the plating is a bit messy, but this is the white fish lemon pepper sauté. Okay, adding the clams. It’s a bit loud. Let’s skim off the scum. I’ve skimmed it. Next, the miso paste. This is a local miso paste. It’s miso from Okuizumo. Piled high with clams. Even though I bought the pack with the fewest clams. The clam miso soup is ready. Alright, dinner is served. Tonight’s drink. Is this “Inaba”? “Inata”? “Inata”? I can’t see. Uh, Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture. Inata Honten Co., Ltd. Huh? You shouldn’t make that gesture. That’s not good. Yes, it’s a Junmai Ginjo sake. “Inatahime.” Yes, I bought a local sake. Well, it’s not local anymore. We’ve crossed the prefectural border. I’m going to enjoy this for my evening drink today. Well, here’s to us. Mmm. Fruity. It’s fruity, isn’t it? Okay, let’s eat. First, the clams. Clams from Lake Shinji. Ah, so delicious. The broth is so rich. Do people in the Kanto region not eat the clam meat? In Kansai, we eat it normally. Not eating something this delicious… What’s that about? Okay, I’ll have the broccoli. Delicious. It’s good. How is the roasted fragrant broccoli? Mmm. It could use a little more soy sauce. It’s good. Yeah, the lemon… lemon basil. It’s good. This one is from Hiroshima Prefecture. The lemon flavor is well absorbed. Yeah. “Shunderu,” right? Shunderu. It’s “shunderu,” not “shimiteru.” When people from Kansai hear “shimiteru,” it’s like… It feels like you’re saying someone wet their pants. So when flavor is well absorbed into food, we say “shunderu.” Shunderu. It’s “shunderu,” right? What’s this? Mackerel sushi. Was it from Sakaiminato? It said it was locally produced. Yeah. It’s mackerel sushi. Alright. I’ll have the Tottori-produced mackerel sushi. Oh, what a disaster. It’s turned into “neko-manma” (cat food). With vinegared rice. But since it was properly pressed together, it didn’t fall apart, so I was able to pick it up properly. This is that famous area in the Hiruzen Highlands that everyone goes to. It says “Hiruzen Cycling Service.” A cycling road… it goes on and on. So there’s a cycling road here. It must be very mountainous, though. And so, breakfast is ready. I added some salt, pepper, and mayo. Walnut bread and a fried egg. Salad from the supermarket. And… Bought at the supermarket yesterday… Yesterday’s supermarket? Yes. Morado bananas bought at “Nakakei.” You can only find these there, right? It’s a rare type of banana. And, yogurt from the Hiruzen Highlands. And for salt, I sprinkled this rock salt. Yes, and pepper is black pepper. I added mayonnaise. And coffee. Today, I tried a medium-dark roast coffee. Medium-dark roast, this is it. Okay, let’s eat. First, the coffee. Ah, delicious. Hiruzen Highlands… Kaze-no-Ie, was it? Yes, after a short nap at “Michi-no-Eki Kaze-no-Ie,” we’ve had breakfast and are now departing. I plan to head west today. Shall we get going? Alright, let’s get on the highway from the Hiruzen interchange. We’ll take the Yonago Expressway and head south to the Chugoku Expressway for now. Alright, so we’re on the highway. Look at this blue sky. It’s a complete change from yesterday’s weather. It was raining right up until the start of the marathon, so I was worried about what would happen, but somehow the rain stopped just as we were starting, and we were able to finish the race safely. Man, what a relief. After the marathon, we went to the hot springs we were looking forward to, had a relaxing soak, and soothed our tired bodies. And then, while we were driving here yesterday, the weather cleared up completely. Today, it’s perfectly clear, the best weather you could ask for. Starting today, in this new camper van, our first long trip, lasting a week, officially begins. I want to visit places I couldn’t easily go with my old HiAce, and enjoy a leisurely trip in this spacious camper van. For now, I’m planning to head west today. I’m really excited to see what kind of journey it will be. Alright, that’s all for this video. Please look forward to the next one. 自作のバスキャンピングカーでの初長旅!今回は、兵庫県の最北端、新温泉町浜坂で開催された「麒麟獅子マラソン」に参加してきました。
前夜はチームのみんなと海辺のおやど丸文さんで、旬のホタルイカなど日本海の幸を堪能!そしてマラソン当日、会場にはなんとスペシャルゲストとして、カンボジア代表のマラソンオリンピック選手【猫ひろし】さんのお姿が!
今回は走るカテゴリーが違ったので並走は叶いませんでしたが、会場でお見かけしてテンションが上がりました!実は数年前、沖縄の与那原(よなばる)町新春マラソンで偶然ご一緒し、完走後にお話までさせていただいたことがあるんです。まさか故郷の兵庫で再会(?)できるとは、不思議なご縁を感じました。
当日は美しい日本海と高校生オーケストラの応援に力をもらい、最高の思い出を作ることができました。
マラソンの後は、鳥取を越えて岡山県の蒜山高原へ。新しい相棒とのんびり車中泊旅の始まりです!
