I Rode Japan’s Most LUXURIOUS Bullet Train For 5 Minutes

all right good morning everyone i am currently here at the iconic Tokyo station to film one of the most ridiculous bullet train videos you’ll ever see in your life so here’s the bullet train ticket i don’t know if you can see clearly the destination is from here Tokyo Station to Ueno station for those who don’t know it only takes like 7 minutes with the regular train to go from Tokyo to Weno so it’s already pretty wild that I got a bullet train seat between these stops but what makes this even wilder is that I got Grandass seat the total ride will be 5 minutes and the cost is 6,490 yen my goal for this video is to see if I can enjoy Grandlass bullet train seats even for 5 minutes first thing I’m going to do is not actually ride the bullet train apparently if you have Grandass bullet train tickets starting from Tokyo you can actually go to this lounge area 90 minutes before your train leaves so I’m going to be doing that you may be wondering why the heck are you even doing this honestly I don’t have a good reason it is just for memes i’m pretty sure 10 to 20 years after I post this I’m going to look back at it and be like “Oh my god I can’t believe I did that.” But you know it’s good memories good memories i found it i think this is it and the view go lounge look at staff over there she’s like dressing up nice holy crap it looks so fancy there this is actually one of the most nerve-wracking things I’ve ever done this year what I’m also nervous is that there’s a chance that they won’t let me in i did look at the website for the entry requirement it did say that you need a grand class bullet train ticket from Tokyo but it didn’t say the end destination so I don’t know if there’s like a distance requirement it did say on the website that you’re not allowed to film so the next clip in this video will either be me who just finished enjoying the Grand Class Lounge or a clip of me sad because I got kicked out uh we we’ll find out all right I’ll see you later so I just came back from the lounge and they let me in despite having a Tokyo Tueno Grand class ticket i asked the lounge staff if I can take photos and they said yes as long as I don’t take pictures of people so I’ll give you a quick lounge tour there are different types of seats one with a couch one with regular chairs and there was even you know regular counter seats and I looked around and I saw there were magazines there were books there were newspapers and even a timetable book like a train timetable book i took a look at it but it just looked too complicated so I closed my book right away after I saw it but once I got seated the staff came and asked me what drink I wanted to get i first ordered iced coffee and it also came with two small cookies i’m not an influencer so I can’t make food and drink look really good but here’s my initial reaction now I’m going to try the cookies but here’s a picture of me eating it god damn that looks so weird but yeah it was good and I was editing my video for about an hour at this time I was editing my shortest train line in Tokyo video i thought I can only get one drink but they asked me if I wanted more so I got iced tea it was good and I also got orange juice after i was a thirsty man at that time all right thank you Voiceover Tanner it is 3:30 right now and my train is going to leave at 3:52 since Tokyo station is the last station you get more time to get on the train so I’m going to go to the platform ASAP so I can sit at my seat longer so here’s the entrance for the JR line here are the Shinkansen gates okay so the train I’m taking is the Asama 619 heading to Nagano and the train is on platform 21 i’m getting extremely nervous i just feel unqualified to go on these seats oh here it is grand class car number 12 here it is the H7 so if it’s not in service do I have to wait until the staff cleans the train or can it just get on [Music] oh here it is grand class oh my god can I go in can I go in okay I can get on oh my god oh my god grand class oh my god where’s my seat oh I’m [Music] Oh 6A i got the one where it’s just my seat i feel so red this is the time for me to play around with these buttons before I have to go so this Oh recines oh my god it recines so far here’s the leg rest oh my god now this is insane there’s light if you want to read a book but I will not be reading a book i will be enjoying these seats this is for the attendant you can press this button to call attendant since this grand class car doesn’t have attendance even if you press this no one will come this is so nice on top of that this train is not leaving for 10 minutes so I can stay here a total of 15 minutes that’s actually pretty good so if you ever take the Grand Class bullet train from Tokyo to Renault uh come early so you can stay and chill here oh is this it i’ll be here wait how does this work i was having a hard time trying to get this dining table but it’s a small dining table i don’t know if you can see the fact that I to pull this out diagonally was so confusing took me like 3 minutes to figure this out okay here’s the plug over here if you want to charge your phone or laptop these are slippers i wonder if I can take this back home all right so I just looked up the official JR website and it seems that you can bring these slippers back home so this is my souvenir and we are off [Music] okay I’m going to recline my seat a little bit so I can just relax as much as possible i’m going to raise my leg rest [Music] oh god [Music] good views good views of buildings oh crap here’s the announcement for Winn Station putting the seat back to normal there’s the bullet train on the other side [Music] oh crap we’re here already oh dang it that was too fast i started moving well that was a fun grand class experience thank you so much all right how do I feel i don’t know i don’t feel that bad i think it’s because of the lounge the lounge saved everything i got to stay there for 90 minutes i got to drink a lot of drinks i got a like snack and then I rode the bullet train grand class seat for 5 minutes and the grand class seat were extremely comfortable and I felt so rich and that will be the end of the video if you want to help me make back the money I spent on this grand class seat all you have to do is just give this video a like and subscribe and watch this video over here that will help a lot all right bye-bye

Don’t read this caption:
This is the Gran Class Shinkansen, basically the first class of bullet trains in Japan. Most people book it for long trips like Tokyo to Kanazawa or Sendai. But I wanted to try something different—and maybe kinda dumb—by riding it for the shortest ride possible: from Tokyo Station to Ueno Station.

In this video, I’ll show you what Gran Class seats actually look like, explain why I did this, and whether you can still enjoy a luxury train ride in Japan when the ride lasts less than 10 minutes. I also check out the exclusive Gran Class lounge at Tokyo Station, and share if I thought this was worth the price.

If you’re interested in Japan train travel, Shinkansen first class, or just wanna see how ridiculous it is to pay this much for a 5-minute ride, this one’s for you.

  1. haha, the other people next to you must have thought, "what is this dude doing exiting at ueno?"

  2. I took the bullet train from Osaka to Kyoto 10+ years ago because me and a friend just wanted to try what it was like to ride the Shinkansen. 😀

  3. What a cool video idea😅 3 Drinks, some cookies and a 5 Minute ride for 50 Euros😅 I loved Shinkansen when I travelled through Japan and i was considering buying a first class JR rail pass but I didn’t and was happy that i didn’t because second class was pretty decent for me and I saw no need for an upgrade. Hope I will return next March 🇯🇵

  4. The announcement should really be: "We will soon make a brief stop at Ueno. Passengers changing here for the Hokuriku Shinkansen, the Tohoku Shinkansen, the Yamanote Line, the Keihin-Tohoku Line, the Uneo-Tokyo Line, the Joban Line, the Joban Line Rapid Service, the Utsunomiya Line, the Keisei Main Line, and the subway lines… Why?"

  5. It was interesting to see your reaction, as if you were committing some kind of crime😂 Although, I think the lounge staff might have thought something like "This guy paid 6500 for a 5-minute ride. We feel kind of bad that he gave JR that much money for nothing. Let's at least give him some drinks and snacks."

  6. Lmao nice. I took Granclass from Shin-Aomori to Ueno last month and while it was really comfortable idk if it was worth the upgrade cost other than as a novelty. The food was really more of a snack, and the drink menu was pretty limited. The only hard liquor they had was Hennessy which was pretty funny.

  7. You suck at food vlogging haha, but that 5 minute bullet train ride is a 20years from now flex kind of thing 😂

  8. love how you explore and meme and yet also end up showing some cool less explored places in Japan, friendly video style too!

  9. 8:44 I hear disappointment in your voice😅 Anyways thanks for the video, 6k is a ridiculous price but considering how much taxi costs in Tokyo, maybe businessmen in Tokyo shall choose Gran Class over Taxi when going to Ueno. Your outfit is really good and rich-looking too! Thanks for video

  10. I mean when you go to a paid airport lounge it’ll typically be 5000 yen to 12000+ yen. So you could actually make the argument that this is a nice hack for getting lounge access to relax among the bustle of Tokyo Station.

  11. I have had the thought that you could conceivably ride any shinkansen for a few minutes within Tokyo area by buying a platform access pass at Tokyo, and getting on a train going to the next destination (without sitting down). Then get off and ride back with another train. But I would guess that is not officially allowed.

  12. I recommend making a video on 大回り乗車 (ōmawari jōsha) where you travel in a huge circle, but get off 1 station away from the station you started at. By doing this you can take an incredibly long journey for about just 160 yen. I did this recently to go to Kawagoe and Hachijōji, but you can technically make it around the entirety of Kantō in one day.

I've been meaning to make train video content lately but havent had the time to recently. Amazing video, and keep up the good work!
