SOLO TRAVELING IN SAPPORO π―π΅πΌπ¦π thrifting, sightseeing, & all the food (summer in hokkaido pt.1)
[Music] [Music] so I landed in Hokkaido last night and I just couldn’t get over how beautiful the weather was i feel like I haven’t been in a proper chillier weather for so long and so this just feels like such a nice welcome and Hokkaido’s actually been at the top of my Japan bucket list for so long and I was supposed to go here a few years ago but then the pandemic happened so there was that but here I am 4 years later and never too late to finally get to experience it i feel like so many people rave about winter in Hokkaido but summer in here is just as elite or so I’m told and I’m just so excited because I have almost a week of getting to explore as much as I can from canal side towns to flower farms to an artificial blue pond and yeah I figured I’d bring you along with me as always starting with an afternoon here in Saporoto and I’m actually running quite late already so let’s get out of here let’s do it i think it’s only fitting that the very first stop that I make here in Saporo is also their oldest building which is the Saporo clock tower and it’s also apparently the oldest clock tower in all of Japan built in 1878 and in terms of architecture it has a very old American colonial design which frankly I find a little unremarkable but it is very iconic here in Saporo which means I couldn’t for the life of me miss it [Music] it’s so cool because you not only can take photos here they actually encourage it and they have multiple photo spots all around the clock tower including this one with a statue of William S clark and you can sit down and take a photo with him he’s kind of a big deal here he was the guy who established the Saporro Agricultural College which will later be known as University of Hokkaido and so he’s pretty much the reason why this whole thing is here and so yeah I think I’m going to take a quick photo with him [Music] [Applause] [Music] for just 1,000 yen you get such a beautiful vantage point over Saburo including the lovely Odori Park the buildings the mountainous ranges and it’s just such a good value i can think of a million ways that I can spend a thousand yen that’s not as valuable as this i think my favorite thing about Saparo so far is that it is a big city but it doesn’t feel like one it is so chill and the pace feels so much more leisurely than in Tokyo and yeah it’s been really nice just relaxing and walking the streets right now I’m heading to Ganso Ramen Yoko which is an alleyway that is comprised of about 17 different ramen shops [Music] good morning from Saburo i’m actually leaving for BA later but I have a couple of hours left here and so I figured I’d do some thrifting because that is one of my absolute favorite things to do in any city really but first got to grab some coffee because I am so tired and there’s this kind of hole-in-the-wall coffee shop here called Barristart and they serve their coffee with fresh Hokkaido milk which is super interesting apparently it makes it taste sweeter and doesn’t need sugar so I’m really excited to try it out [Music] so this is the iced Brazilian blend with BA Jerseyy milk and some caramel syrup [Music] oh that’s so interesting like you can really taste the milk i like that a lot [Music] it’s super exciting because there’s so many thrift stores around the area within a few minutes of walking distance from each other and I don’t know there’s some days where you kind of just know that it’s going to be a good thrifting day and this feels like one fingers crossed i hope I’m not jinxing myself [Music] starting off a very very strong i feel like the prices here are not the best and I’m not proud that I spent $30 on this item but it’s probably the most flattering thing that I put on in a very long time and so I had to get it okay let’s keep going [Music] this one thrift store has an American flag and so I’m taking that as a good sign heat heat [Music] heat heat [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay so I just finished thrifting and I went to four stores in total price-wise I felt like it was very much okay i felt like it was moderately priced and nothing really to rave about they mostly sold American wear and so I feel like you can get these pieces from back home but that’s not to say that I didn’t get some really good things i got two pieces in total but I love them both so much so the first thing that I got was from Second Street and it is this black Zara dress for $30 and listen I usually would not buy a secondhand Zara dress for $30 but this just fit me so beautifully and I haven’t had a piece fit me this well for so long and so I just knew I had to have it the second thing that I got is probably my most favorite thing that I have gotten and it is Oh my gosh okay I’ve been looking for this for literal years but it is this cable knit Ralph Lauren American flag sweater with turtleneck oh my gosh I saw it and I kne I just had to have it it’s my size this usually retails around $300 to $400 but I got it for 75 and yeah I’m just so excited to wear this and have like a cute American Fourth of July look and so yeah I feel like that was a very very successful afternoon of thrifting i am very hungry so it’s time to go grab some late lunch hokkaido is very much known for its fresh seafood apparently supplying more than half of Japan’s total seafood consumption which is absolutely insane and from what I read it has something to do with how cold the waters are in this area which makes it an ideal condition for the marine life to thrive and here in Njo Market you actually see the industry in action it’s just so fascinating to watch and obviously I have to go grab myself a bowl of fresh seafood it looks so good and this one is salmon salmon row and king crab which might be the freshest bowl of seafood I have ever had in my life and so yeah I’m excited to dig in [Music] oh my gosh confirmed i have never had seafood this fresh before [Music]
