did you know Japan holds a national Grand Prix to crown the best curry buns in the country i went to the Sumida neighborhood to visit my first of four Tokyo bakeries that made the winner’s list See the curry buns front and center They look like crispy chicken breasts This bakery was full of temptations but I stayed focused and got what I came for Just curry bun today It was 9:00 a.m While kids are heading to school I was looking for a place to eat this and found the perfect spot Trains rumbling in the background Now let’s look at this prize winner This is the classic style Deep fried and golden it’s perfectly plump with extra panko crags on the outside Crunchy but surprisingly not greasy And inside look at this generous filling The curry’s warm with spice but not spicy hot And there’s a mellow sweetness that rounds it out Now I know why this took home the gold My only regret I only got one of these
