Street Food Under Tokyo’s Train Tracks 🇯🇵 CRAZY Japanese Food You NEVER Knew Existed!
welcome to Chic Travel and welcome to Tokyo Japan on Thursday Today I’m with my friend Yusan He runs one of the best tour companies in all of Japan Japan Wonder Travel Thank you very much Today we’re exploring together This is a really kind of retro old school district and we’re going to try some kind of exotic things That’s why I brought him with me Yeah nice Of course So let’s go [Music] So just outside of Aeno station is Ameo a street that is kind of built underneath the train tracks You can see here there is so much food It’s got like a real old school vibe It’s way less touristy than for example a Sakua or even Shibuya So we’re going to walk down a Yoko and try to find some uh interesting street foods to show you guys today [Music] First stop is for takoyaki which is like a octopus ball Yes I got it Yeah this stall is really popular They they sell over 3,000 of these a day 3,000 balls a day That’s crazy So we have to uh we got to dress this up So we’ve got sauce So it’s like a takoyaki sauce Yeah Yep So takoyaki sauce Very light batter ball with just a little bit of maybe green onions in there Yeah Uh this one is And this is bonito flakes Bonito flakes Dried bonito flakes I love how they have it in the this massive uh jug So these are the shaved bonito fish flakes Matumami Yeah Really good You can smell it already It’s kind of smoky So packed out Only standing room This is real street food What is this seaweed Okay Yep And uh this is something you need to be very careful when eating cuz it’s very hot So hot Maybe we wait a minute US tells me it’s safe to eat So if I if I burn myself it’s your fault I think it’s safe It’s safe One no one bite Half my Oh you want to be super careful While he’s suffering I’ll tell you about how it tastes So they cook it very lightly like the batter on the inside remains kind of creamy They don’t cook it through It’s almost like it I’ve had them in different parts of Japan but I think in Osaka it’s quite famous And the one in Osaka he still can’t talk Too hot He’s blowing flames in his mouth But in Osaka they do it like this So I really like this guy Good though right but good good good I love the bonito Inside you could find a small octopus Just like one piece of the octopus tentacle Sort of chewy but it gives it a nice texture cuz it’s like creamy and then chewy on the inside So so but I really think the bonito flakes make it tastes so good Much umami Yeah very umami A little bit smoky almost You can see that it’s like very lightly cooked Yeah you need to be careful with these things Let’s see if you can see the octopus inside There you go Piece of octopus This really is probably my favorite street food Like I mean you always find this on the streets here in Japan And I love the sauce on the outside This is the same sauce in okonameyaki Soyaki sauce Yeah Okonamyaki sauce Yeah Vegetables and fruits Yeah It’s kind of like tangy I love it It goes good on everything really So noodles different things everything Okay The key is to open it up to let it cool down right then cool down It’s easier to eat There you see octopus there [Music] So we’re just passing underneath the train tracks I don’t know if you can hear it but this is literally the train tracks above us So it’s actually built completely underneath of the the station and the tracks and then a highway as well up there Really cool vibe Okay second stop What’s the name of this place uh no They specialize in menchi katsu which is like a minced uh beef This one’s beef And uh look at how crispy it is on the outside Katsu so cutlet And um we can try it like this But there’s also the same I think it’s the sauce Same sauce Let’s try it by itself Yeah [Music] Yeah Oh I love it There you go Little peek inside It’s so crispy on the outside but like really thin Sauce Yeah definitely sauce This is the exact same takoyaki sauce Yep which goes perfectly with this [Music] Oh so good with the sauce Yeah this place is like the perfect stop and just have a quick snack and keep going down the Yoko Cho You like it yeah very tasty Last bite of the cut Oh [Music] So we’ve come into one of the many isakayas along the street We’re right underneath the train uh tracks You can literally feel it when it goes over top of you And I brought you on here because I don’t know if you can tell but the menu in the back is all in Japanese But luckily for us they did have an English menu So this is guy serves some really really strange things And um well I’ll keep it a secret until it arrives But the last time I hung out with Yusan he ordered horse meat and chicken sashimi So he’s the perfect guy to bring here But this is even going to be crazier I think So this is the very normal cuts of sushimi which we’ll leave for last And here we have two very interesting things Comment down below with your guesses Give you a second to guess So actually USANA you’ve never tried this one have you no No no no So this one is a stingray liver We’ll see how it is And then what do we have here this one is shark heart Shark heart You’ve had this no You haven’t had this shark yes Shark you have yeah Is it good chewy Chewy All right Well this is going to be uh both first for me Yep So they’re they’re both pre-seasoned This one with a little bit of salt some garlic on the side Let’s try the liver first Okay I’m going to need a big drink of beer after I eat this Okay Cheers The texture the texture is really weird It’s like butter It’s like frozen butter Like if you don’t even chew it it’ll just start melting But the flavor not too bad Not too bad It’s not too bad But the texture Whoa Like a liver of the chicken Yeah Like a puagra kind of I’m sure But I don’t know Not maybe not my favorite Definitely need beer Actually not as bad as I was expecting I thought it was going to have a really strong flavor but the texture was not bad I actually kind of like it Round two Going to try it Sharp heart You son You’ve tried this one before huh yep And you survived Yeah So cool Live to tell the tale So this is the guy to eat crazy things with Believe me he can eat anything It’s covered in sesame oil Very chewy Like the opposite texture of that This one’s like rubbery and that one was like creamy Not bad Not bad There’s some green onions on there I can kind of taste the blood right like iron iron flavor There’s some things on their menu that uh I would get cancelled on YouTube if I ordered So we’re This is as crazy as we’re getting today I think this is so fresh and not so bad flavor No it’s really fresh and good Yeah it’s just like a simple flavor Like it’s not actually I thought it was going to be like a really strong flavor but it’s not It’s good Yes So we got this mixed platter sea bass I believe Saba saba mackerel Yeah What was this one i can’t remember Not sure Yeah I understand And then two of tuna and squid This is the aami the lean cut I’m just going to give this a try to sort of wash away some of that blood taste a little bit Dip in the soy sauce But if you want to try something strange believe me they’ve got strange here [Music] So definitely uh can enjoy some sake with your Everything raw Everything raw She spilled it right to the brim I’m scared I’m going to to spill it Cheers We can’t Cheers Cheers [Music] Sweet That one’s good Yeah Refreshing Washes away all the the shark art and stingray liver Stingray And I love the the bottles Look how huge they are Super cool This one’s got a cool design Yum All right we survived We survived You got to have that with some sake My stomach is all right Your stomach is is made of steel Right So we popped into another really popular izakaya There was a bit of a a wait by the way An isizakaya is like a Japanese car Yes But with food too usually with really good food So what is this dish we ordered is a beef guts Beef guts How do you call it though in Japanese we say nikcomi Nikcomi Okay So some beef guts There we go You’re not selling it to me Yeah Yeah of course Sometimes we put the how say spicy one Oh sushimi Yes Sichimi Sichimi The Japanese seven Perfect Perfect Oh it’s like a stew Nice flavor Really soft meat Yeah So this spot what is the name uh bunduck Bunduck They’re famous for the yakitori which is the uh grilled chicken sticks or different meat sticks So we ordered some of those up too Cheers Cheers [Music] So we’ve ordered up five different types of yakitori We’ve got sukun which is the minced chicken Yes This is the skin Skin Just the skin Chicken skin which is honestly delicious This one what did you say cartilage Cartilage Cartage Okay Cartilage This is the boring one The chicken thigh And then another heart This time chicken heart Not not uh shark Which one you want to try to use on what do you like meat heart Heart Okay But maybe we can we can share I’ll put here Okay There’s a lot of uh customs in Japan about how to how to do everything So I love being with you because he always knows what to do Okay I’ll help you Is a Japanese way to share everything Just pull it all off the stick But don’t use your chopsticks that you already new ones only Sometimes there’s like a little thing to put your sticks in I don’t see up here No no one here Yeah And oh another thing to know too note about Japan and like is it like this people smoking a lot even indoors Even indoors Yeah So um you know a lot of people are not used to that Yeah A lot of people are not used to it but it’s normal here in Japan Because I’m boring I’m going to go for the thigh Good Yum Smoky And still really juicy too Yes This is probably the most typical isakaya food right yes One of the most typical ones the jack chicken skewers but you can also get beef You can get everything on a skewer right yes of course Vegetables pork pork everything Correct And it goes perfectly with beer Perfect with beer What did you say collagen Oh good Collagen in the skin Yeah This good for your skin too Yeah Eating skin is good for your skin It’s really fatty but it’s crispy and oily Yum Actually the skin is so good Skin is my favorite My My wife and my daughter love Yeah It’s only I think maybe 3 p.m right now but uh everybody’s drunk Everybody’s Everybody’s having a good time Japan is amazing I I love it And is really cool I love this area Really cool spot to walk around I feel like stepping back in time almost Yeah retro like 50 years before maybe same Yeah same Nothing’s changed I think it’s a good spot to come uh when you come to Japan But if you want to check out one of the the other areas Japan Wonder Travel can take you on an awesome tour They have all kinds of cool tours Sumo wrestling Yeah that’s that’s one I want to try out in the future So check it out Yeah we’re going to make a video next time All right I’m going to try the cartage out next It just it just stopped but the train just went by You can hear the screeching of the train It’s It’s literally right above us It’s cool It’s so cool Oh crunchy Yeah Almost like a a bone Okay thank you so much Thank you very much Until next time Yay Every time in Tokyo this is this is my guy Thank you so much I do my best You did good So one of my favorite things to do here in Japan after a few drinks is head to one of these guys Tao Station play a little bit of Mario Kart I’m about to kick your ass Let’s go Basically this place is a multilevel arcade with every game claw machine photo booth you could ever imagine These This floor is all the photo booths What do you want to do doesn’t even look real Like that’s crazy Let’s do it [Music] Oh my god This is going to have to get edited a lot [Music] All right you guys ready to see how Luke Kawaii is look this one’s better Happy Father’s Day Happy Father’s Day Okay this one might have be a blur for YouTube I don’t have anything to say This is crazy We look like Mario Kart time That was so close Damn first place That was pretty good major Now I’m kicking ass Well it was a big upset We’re going to come back bigger stronger and faster next year next season I shouldn’t have went with Toad I think that was my my downfall Donkey Kong Really just an excuse of the definition of the word loser Really [Music] yeah let’s go Hey hey hey No idea really what that was Some sort of a procession temple procession but we just stumbled upon it right in the streets of Wayo There’s always something to see here in Tokyo Cool right to see really close And for some reason none of them have pants on or shoes I think this area is really cool and totally worth a visit especially if you’ve you know already done Shinjuku and Shabuya Sakusa all the very popular areas Aeno is really cool It’s actually quite cheap compared to the other areas and you can find some really good deals and some delicious food like the places we tried today So huge thank you to Euthan for helping us Uh Japan Wonder Travel you can book your tour with those guys Uh you’ll have an amazing trip I guarantee it And uh we’ll see you guys on the next episode Chopstick J Bye

Japan is a small country, with many mountains, so the cultivated land area is small, and it is an isolated island in the middle of the ocean, so "securing food" has been the biggest challenge historically. The culture of eating everything may have come from this.
I'm missing Japan right about now. What a country .
In my Hometown Düsseldorf, which got the largest Japanese Community in Germany,we have Restaurants who serves dishes like Takoyaki,Okonomiyaki and many more! I'm getting hungry for Takoyaki and tommorow I go to a Street food restaurant 😁
👍
really curious about the rest of the menu at that shark heart place now 😅dolphin / sea turtle sashimi?
