Thailand’s Most Gourmet Supermarket? You Hunt We Cook at Siam Paragon

[Music] good afternoon and I am at Siam Paragon
today and I’m just going to make it a quick and kind of easy video, so it does seem like
a very nice shopping center but I’m not that interested in the shops that are here
there’s only one particular thing that I am interested in which is the Gourmet Market
where you can pick your own food and they’ll cook it for you, i am actually craving a
steak i don’t know if it’s one of those days where I’m a little bit homesick and I
want to eat something that you know is more I guess commonly eaten back at home so I’m
just going to head straight there but it’s so nice to get air con, i took two hours to get
here because I am here at like I left at peak time actually I left at 4 p.m it’s 6:12 it’s
just one of those things where I noticed that there’s just so much traffic happening around
4 onwards maybe 4 to 6 or 4 to 7 where there’s even like traffic people controlling the people
going in and out of car parks and it’s actually just so chaotic and it’s just so humid but
yeah nonetheless let’s find something to eat no thank you. okay so you need to go past the
food court which is called Gourmet Eats to get into the market, luckily it is just on ground
floor so usually I feel like sometimes these markets or at least at Central World which
also has this concept that market is all the way at the very top and just look at the meats
now, oh my gosh it’s so fancy there’s like even wine behind me fancy there’s a whole kind
of like Wagyu fridge here i’m just looking at some of the Wagyu now i’m not just sure
there’s so much range right so it tells you what it’s for this one’s saying it’s for Shabu,
yakiniku, grilled, barbecue or gyudon it’s imported from Australia wagyu beef and this one is one
1,200 baht what’s that? that’s like more than $50 AUD, okay let’s try to go to the cheap section
and based on my understanding is that you can just pick it yourself first and then
once I think you pay you head out to the other section and they will cook it for you
but we will get to that once we select the meat, oh there’s also Australian lamb chops as
well and a whole variety my goodness [Music] wow it’s so much seafood this is incredible,
i’ve never seen a uh supermarket like this that offers like this much variety, okay I found
something a little bit more affordable so we have Australian beef still we have 280 it’s 280 baht
but I’m not too sure how much it is in terms of grams but it doesn’t look bad, this is what
it looks like i think I might grab one of these and then head over to the other section and
see what kind of happens but there’s just so much seafood, all sorts of different oysters
as well like imported from other countries there was even Kobe beef and like imported
from Japan like this is wild, this is like if you were like had a lot of money or if you
worked and you like were an expat living in Bangkok you could really like be coming
here and eating so fancy my god okay okay cause it goes by the
grams okay, yes yes please and then get to select sauces,
could I please get mushroom sauce? there’s a sushi section my god, I wish I saw it
so I would have got a smaller steak and had some sushi on the side, my mouth is watering this is so
exciting so I’m actually just quickly grabbing a beer, oh yeah they actually have cold beer in
the fridge they also sell beer there too but they kind of had craft beer because I think
they’re sold out of the other beer so I’m just going to grab, so you guys have seen me get a Leo
I believe so I should get a Singha this time or a Chang, i’ll get a Chang yeah all right i’ll get
a Chang, that’s a lot of beer in there my goodness [Music] all right and honestly I barely even got the
cooking process but pretty much grilled it like a barbecue steak and I just gone for
medium rare, which the steak itself was let’s take a look at the receipts the steak itself
was 280 baht then to get it cooked it goes per how the size so of course if you have a bigger steak
or bigger item of in weight it’s going to cost you more for me it was 100 baht and then I’ve just
got mushroom sauce which was 80 baht and then also mashed potato which was 80 baht and then they
pretty much print off a receipt for you, you can order any other items they do make a lot of
things in house as well and they just either pack it to go or you can eat
it there and they’ll heat it up, then you get a receipt you go to the payment
counter you pay i just got my beer as you saw so I’m just having a Chang which
was 33 baht and my god I haven’t had a steak in how long i mean I go to Korean barbecue
it’s not the same cause it doesn’t have the mushroom sauces right? and then yeah
it’s just it’s been a really long time i don’t know even know how long i
reckon at least a year at least so I’ve gone for medium rare that looks
pretty good to me mushroom sauce let’s go mhm yeah that’s so good oh my, that’s crazy good, wow. how do you guys
usually like your steak cooked? i’m definitely medium rare and he’s cooked it so well, my gosh
that looks so good to me and wow this is just awesome concept so I actually thought maybe
it’ll be really busy but everyone’s interested in a lot of other things so there are bakery goods,
there’s sushi as I mentioned, there’s even cold cut meats, cheese you can spend a day in here and
just have like this romantic bougie date where you can actually go get wine from the fridge, you
can get beers from the fridge so like supermarket prices in terms of the items but then of course
if you’re eating here and getting add-ons it costs money mmm, so good and there’s just condiments on the side
so you got your salt, your pepper oh I don’t know how to pronounce this
worchestershire sauce and then it’s just your typical tomato,
mustard and I’m going to assume chili that’s cool, what is also your go-to sauce when you
eat steak? you know I wonder how they cook the seafood i guess you can get like
grilled prawns there was even like grilled lobsters, crab yeah i mean you could just
get oysters and eat it fresh i don’t know if they’re going to shuck it for you or what
what is the situation here? it is just wild in here i can’t believe how wild it is here i see a lot of the locals also getting, not
even just the locals like anybody that’s come in it’s just here for so long cause
there’s so much to look at yeah, they’ll buy like this food to go so it’s only being
cooked by like a chef and then pretty much pre prepackaged meals but they’re fancy like you
have your grilled salmon like you be eating good honestly it makes me feel like Thailand is
the place to be, there’s so much diversity and you know I was in Vietnam for two and a half
years also traveling around but I feel like Thailand’s very catered, it’s very diverse in
terms of food and so the supermarket has a lot of offerings and imported products from overseas
and they’re not too crazily priced whereas I feel like in Vietnam it’s not as common and if
it is even like red wine it’s really expensive mm so good so good like you can get wine here, you can
pretty much take it a date here it’s wild chang beer, i think Chang has been my favorite so far definitely and mash mash isn’t bad, it’s not that creamy
it’s like on the healthier side actually but the texture is really good this is exactly what I needed oh it feels
so good i was even like “Oh maybe I should get sausages.” cause you know grilled sausages is
the best we could have had a full on Australian barbecue could have got some like lamb chops, a
little steak but then there only like how much can to eat right? some prawns and then sausages
but then like that’s when you really need people to eat with you then like that’s just like
a full on barbecue there’s even tomato sauce in here, like you’re you’re done and then you’ve
got some maybe you got some bread i don’t know if they’ll caramelize some onions for you
so you can have like a little sausage sausage mmm so good one thing I hate about steak though, I don’t
hate but one thing that I don’t like is, you know I feel like when you take your time to
eat it and it gets cold, especially if it’s like medium rare or more on the rare side
that towards the end it kind of has like this that weird taste where it goes, it’s kind
of cold and the meat doesn’t taste the same i wonder how many grams my steak is at but yeah there’s even sushi i couldn’t
believe it, baked goods they look premium and what else? you can make your own salad and
then you pay per weight so you weigh it up that’s cool, so I saw a few people
in line that were paying packing their salads and it’s so good honestly it’s like
I’m feeling like Bangkok is like the place in Southeast Asia to live, you know if
you’re expat got some money you can be eating really good also really healthy, you
can weigh up your salads, you can be eating sushi you can have beer in on tap in the
freaking supermarket like what is going on juices and smoothies over there, there’s people a
lot of people just picking their smoothies like what is going on and then yeah like for example
clearly I’m staying in shared accommodation at the moment but also when you travel you generally
don’t have a kitchen so it’s perfect to be eating something that you crave for an affordable
price so 100 baht for them to cook, it is so good mhm like you can just be in here, like there’s tables
on the other side if you’re not dining in this section where they call it you hunt we cook, so you
grab something you want and then they cook it for you so you’re hunting in the supermarket
cause there’s just so much to grab and hunt there’s other tables are around the supermarket
which is just so wild to see and I feel like you just go in here and just I don’t know
you can even like pre-drink if you’re going out or something i don’t know like
I don’t know do you get kicked out if you get drunk like what’s happening?
Where’s the nearest toilet as well? i have no idea but I’m shocked so I first came across
this at Central World and I had already eaten so I didn’t share it, i was full at
the time so I didn’t make a vlog at the time the first time I was in Thailand and
then I remembered it again and then my friend also went and I was like “Oh my gosh
yes I’m I’m going to come and make a vlog when I’m when I’m really craving
a steak.” And it’s what 3 weeks in and I’m already craving the steak but no, Thai
food I’m not sick of it yet either it’s just One of those days where you’re just like really
craving something hearty that’s more familiar so Australia is really diverse in terms of
restaurants, food like different cuisines i feel like and I don’t know Australians if
you’re watching this let me know your thoughts i feel like Thai food is probably one that we
probably lack the most, like there are quite a few a number but I feel like it’s not as
much as other cuisines that we do offer so with me I feel like growing up I didn’t eat
that much Thai food and I love the flavors but I don’t actually eat that much, if I do go out
to eat it’s usually like Japanese or Korean or Italian yeah or even Mexican so like Thai food
I feel like is kind of one of the lowest on my list because I don’t know that many places
especially in the Eastern suburbs i feel like there’s not that many that I know of
whereas other cuisines there’s more but yeah back home is like that for you guys as well
like there’s a one cuisine that is you know the biggest? cause I feel like Australia their Thai is
probably on the lower end i’m really loving the flavors but I find that it’s so hot so sometimes
I generally like to street dine, like have street food on like outside vendor but it’s so hot like
9:00 a.m it’s already 35 degrees and I’m like wow like I’m sweating this is well worth it just finished up and honestly I am so full, that was
so filling, mashed potato with a steak god damn, i’m just going to take a walk through and just I feel
like this is just wild here so as I mentioned the you pick and go, so there’s already pre-made meals, what’s
this over here snazzy foodie now you’ve got some Okay just some Thai foods like your
skewers and such man this is bloody nuts nigiri, oh there’s like promos
kind of like buy one get one free just lots of heaps of Japanese
and Korean groceries as well fries cheesy fries, australian vegetables okay
let’s go see how much these things are we’ve got a celery, australian
celery this is 259 baht for this item it’s expensive as hell, though yeah
of course it’s imported, there’s a durian station no way you freaking kidding me
what the, what the, no way, soup station gourmet lobster soup no, no what is going on here fruit section as well, okay this
is interesting so these ones, these blueberries I swear this brand we sell this
brand in Australia but it says it’s from China that’s interesting, there’s also Kiwi kiwi that’s also Chinese what’s going on here?
how strange but you know on the sign here saying Australia, australian. there’s even a car
in here like what, how did you get a car in here and for what reason It’s a grocery
store it’s a freaking supermarket my god man this is just this is just blowing me away,
wow okay a lot of things here seem to be from China, okay like even durian interesting
cause you think that Thailand of course has its own durian i know they have the smaller ones
but if not just get it from Malaysia, malaysian durian is bomb, i’m shocked but yeah all right
i’m going to wrap it up guys that I’m so mind-blown that it’s just like I can’t believe it,
oh and also whilst I finished up filming myself eating I was still finishing my meal of
course right and I was like “Huh there’s a lot of solo people eating that.” And everyone’s kind
of gotten a wine that looks so fancy like they probably just finished work and now they’re just
there to grab you know an affordable meal and you gone for a steak or like a a salmon and I
was like it kind of feels like this is where like bachelors go or something like they should
do a speed dating or a blind date kind of event so maybe you can go meet someone i was like I
wonder if that’s what people think of me right now i’m like that solo traveler but no I’ve got
a backpack so I’m not looking cool at all and I got a beer not like a fancy bougie wine so yeah,
that was just my thoughts so I was like I wonder how people perceive me right now but I don’t
think it was the way that I perceived them because I was uh definitely not looking at that bougie
like them but yeah I’m going to wrap it up guys, i hope you enjoy today’s vlog, I still have a
lot of Thailand content coming your way if the if there is any recommendations please let me
know, i was considering like I’m not too sure if this is something of interest like McDonald’s
in Thailand or KFC in Thailand but let me know if that’s something you are interested in
because honestly there is also so much content so I’m like there’s so many other ideas that
I’m like should that is that even worth it you know but let me know in the comments below if
you are if you are interested and any ideas that you have other than that thanks so much for
your support and I will see you in the next one [Music]

  1. Hello Kim, Driscoll's is a company headquarter in my state of California in the city of Watsonville. Most of there berries are grown in California. They do license their company to approved partners or growers. I eat their berries on a weekly basis. Wow, Thailand is fancy. If you have money you don't have/need to really cook at home. 😊
