My Trip to Shikoku, Japan | Cinematic Travel Vlog
[Music] this past April I went on a 5-day road trip through Shikoku the smallest of Japan’s main islands and discovered beautiful nature countryside towns and some unique hidden gems so come along and experience Japan off the beaten path [Music] all right it’s day one first proper day in Shikoku this morning we did a miso making class nice i usually see kids this girl Kan so adorable so cute but yeah it’s beautiful out here it’s a gorgeous day i think it’s like 80° it’s so fun talking to the Japanese families and stuff i know immediately as I tried to get outside the chickens just came storming to the door eating myself [Music] we just got this tofu honey pudding which actually sounds incredible and then half of a tofu donut m this is like so good this is like what we had in Taiwan there’s like tofu pudding places [Music] yeah we just made it to this waterfall and there’s actually a lot of nice little swimming holes on the way coming up here but it is gorgeous it’s actually huge and it’s completely empty which is crazy there’s one waterfall here and then another this one’s obviously fuller the hike was also like not that hard i feel like like it was longish but not really it probably took like 20 minutes [Music] we’re currently entering this creepy Oh my god this creepy scarecrow village it was started by a lady who lived here who lived in this small village and then moved to Osaka I think or some town and then moved back and everyone else was gone and so as like a sort of way to repopulate the area or to remind her of the old days she just made like hundreds of scarecrows and put them throughout the village this door is fully open really oh my god guys this is so [Music] creepy oh my god the sky outside is creepy too i was just looking at crossing the street very beautiful out here though it’s actually not that creepy i think if I were to come at night it’d be pretty creepy but it’s kind of cute like I kind of love the concept of like a fake village oh my god stop there is so much more actually okay this is like a school i I’m gathering this is a school i think that was a classroom over there and this looks like it’s like a gym and like a playground [Music] this is definitely worth visiting i’ve never seen a town like this before middle of nowhere Japan guys just stopped over on the side of the road i believe there’s like a little vine bridge and I think this area is kind of known for these like old vine bridges [Music] all right I think we’re going to cross the bridge oh my god wait this is actually kind of scary oh my gosh never done anything like that walking over the river [Music] [Music] this house was from a very wealthy family the Nagagoa K family it’s huge it’s a really nice house honestly I would love to live there great views there’s a statue out there and there’s a boy being over the river we’ve just arrived at this hotel called Hotel Ya onen and there’s a onen by the river which sounds amazing and you take a cable car down so I can’t film in onen but it’s going to be a great time [Music] i am so relaxed right now that was incredible we even saw wild monkeys i mean me and the other Japanese girl in my room or in the onsen um and we were just like “Oh my god there’s monkeys.” It was so cool yeah the best part about Japan really are the onens um it’s just so relaxing and you can’t really do that anywhere else in the world I feel like yeah so you’re really missing out if you come to Japan and don’t go to Nonsen like get on that one side guys there’s monkeys but I’m scared they’re like kind of running towards us kind of running away oh there it is all right we just saw some monkeys i think we almost died this close very close they were really cute though and I saw them at the onsen so I was like excited that we could see them again they’re only cute till they start tearing at your throat i swear to God monkeys are scary yeah that was actually terrifying i I don’t think I like ran that fast i like slammed my hand on the door a little but that was fun that was fun [Music] good morning it’s day three of Shikoku we’re staying at guest house Kami Koya and it’s like a washi paper studio as well which is really cool you can like see in the house there’s like a studio section views are great the house is huge there also is like barely any food around like last night we had kini food and I think that’s something to think about like just bring snacks for the road because you’re going to get hungry like we had nothing to eat from before and after the onsen until we found a family more but yeah these places close early i think we’re going to go try to find some breakfast somewhere hopefully i’m starving [Music] sheino [Music] [Music] [Laughter] squ a little bit of nihongo i feel like I haven’t been doing much in the vlog but maybe I’ll try to include some some Japanese [Music] we’ve stopped off to this lake area um supposedly the water’s so clear and there’s some koiish just found it on Google Maps let’s go check it out [Music] it feels like a really nice place to just like relax and yeah it’s very peaceful it’s a super super pretty day it feels like summer really so it might be the time to dip yeah it’s like just in the back of the lake such a beautiful area and like so quiet nobody else is here and it looks like there’s like a tiny little cave in the back [Music] watch out tea leaves we’ve stopped by to this like tea farm area i’ve never seen a view like this it’s so stunning and we just found this on Google Maps and I was like Rich let’s go here it looks really pretty the guy was so friendly he’s just taking out the sticks I believe i am just like having a great day the river was so nice too so Rich wants me to drive for a drone shot i’ve never driven on the opposite side of the road but first time let’s do it it’s only gonna be like up until there so I’ll be fine this man was the cutest man ever he’s so nice like why is everyone so nice out here he was like “You’re free to like run around and try the tea leaves.” I didn’t and I reversed [Music] look at these rocks all right guys we stopped over on the side of the road we made it to Tangu Highlands and I just cannot believe this is Japan right now because it looks like nothing I’ve ever seen like [Music] Just spent the night at another countryside town and this is our last one we’re going to head back into the mainland island area we’re still going to stop by a bunch of little countryside areas but it is a driving day for sure back to [Music] Okyama we stopped by at this spot called Nakatu Gorge it’s on the way back and it’s still in the mountains the water is probably the clearest one I’ve ever seen so far in Japan and it just I just keep thinking this is the perfect like summer road trip it’d be so cool to swim in this river but today it’s a little bit more chilly the water is just so so [Music] clear we’ve officially left Shikoku and we’ve come to this area called Kurashiki the past few days have been so much cooler than my past month in Tokyo i’ve just had an incredible week weekend exploring Shikoku exploring all these hidden gems i have so many more spots though that I want to visit in Shikoku now and I’ll have to come back but I hope you guys enjoyed this video if you did be sure to give it a thumbs up let me know what you thought and highly recommend getting off the beaten path in Japan see you in the next one
Shikoku is the smallest of Japan’s 4 main islands – perfect for nature lovers. I documented a road trip exploring unique villages, clear rivers and waterfalls, beautiful mountains, and more.
We started in Osaka, rented a car and drove through Awaji Island to get to Tokushima. For the next 4 days we’d drive through the mountains, and end in Kagawa to Okayama.

Amazing how everywhere is so beautiful & clean!
Nice change of pace from the major cities in Japan – the people are so friendly and the Japanese people seem so warm and kind people.
And from a previous video it must be wonderful to connect with your Mom’s heritage in Japan 😊
And everywhere seems so safe including the big cities. Sounds like you will be planning another trip back to Japan soon 🙂

Wow wow wow I must visit this island so good!
Wow the spots you've discovered are all so beautiful! <3
I can't imagine the lady who came back, and no one was there anymore.🥺It does seem creepy, but the story behind it makes my heart feel warm towards the lady who did all the work. Just wow <3
