Japan travel guide from train stations. This time we will introduce Shin-Okubo Station on the JR Yamanote Line. This section provides directions from Haneda Airport to Shin-okubo Station on the JR Yamanote Line. From Haneda Airport Terminal 3 Station, take the Keikyu Line (express) bound for Shinagawa, and get off at Shinagawa Station, 8 stops away. At Shinagawa Station, transfer from the Keikyu Line to the JR Yamanote Line bound for Shinjuku/Shibuya. 9 stops away is Shin-okubo Station. The main street, Okubo-Street, is right in front of you as you exit the ticket gates of Shin-Okubo Station. Proceeding to the right on Okubo-Street and passing through the guard, you will see one of the best Korean towns in Tokyo. Many stores line the street, including popular Korean gourmet restaurants such as Korean barbeque, cheese takkarbi, and cute-looking sweets, as well as Korean cosmetics and K-POP idol stores. The atmosphere is fun just to walk around, making it very popular among young people and tourists. There is also a wide variety of gourmet food stalls where you can eat and walk around in a festive atmosphere. This street, which runs from “Okubo-Street” to “Shokuan-Street” where Don Quijote is located, is called “Ikemen-Street. Despite being a narrow passageway, it is crowded with people every day and is a popular street to visit if you are visiting Shin-Okubo. By the way, the name “Ikemen Street” comes from the fact that you can meet handsome men when you walk along the street. Don Quijote Shinjuku is located along “Ikemen Street.” Don Quijote here offers a wide variety of foods, snacks, and cosmetics from Korea and other Asian countries at very reasonable prices. It is open 24 hours a day, so you can shop anytime you want. Nishi-Okubo Park is located next to Ikemen Street. It is spacious, has clean restrooms, and has tables and chairs. It can be used freely as a resting place for Shin-Okubo sightseeing or a place for children to play. Let’s return to “Shin-Okubo Station” and stroll down Okubo Street in the opposite direction. The opposite side of Korean Town is an area lined with numerous stores selling foodstuffs, gourmet foods, and sundries from various Asian countries. It is a valuable place for tourists as well as foreigners living in Japan to get items from their own countries. We arrived at “Okubo Station” on the JR Chuo and Sobu lines on foot. From here, we will stroll back to “Shin-Okubo Station”. On the way back to Shin-Okubo Station is the Kaichu Inari Shrine. This shrine is believed to be beneficial for winning a lottery. Today, it is known as a power spot visited by people who wish to “win” in various fields such as gambling, winning, work, and academics, as well as praying for winning lotteries and tickets.
