5 Unique Glamping Places in Japan

Hi! Today, we’re staying in a transparent tent. Heading to Nasushiobara Station in Tochigi: 3 hours by train from Tokyo or 70 minutes by Shinkansen. We’ve arrived at Nasushiobara Station. It’s the gateway to “Nasu”, a popular tourist destination. We’re hopping on the hotel’s complimentary shuttle bus. They run the bus 3 times a day, and you need to reserve by the day before. The ride takes about 40 minutes, so it’s quite a distance. Nasu is lush and relatively cool, popular as a villa area. It’s also known for the Imperial Villa that’s over 100 years old. We heard that the Imperial family is staying here this summer for relaxation. We’ve arrived at our hotel for today! It’s the official hotel of “Nasu Highland Park”, an amusement park. They offer various rooms like rental villas and glamping, making the most of Nasu’s natural surroundings. This is the reception. There are local Nasu souvenirs, candy stores, and separate large baths for men and women. First, let’s check in. Room access starts from 3 pm. It’s 12 pm. Let’s walk to ‘Nasu Highland Park’, 5 mins away. The regular admission fee is 1,600 yen , but hotel guests can enter for free. The all-you-can-ride ticket is usually 4,300 yen, but hotel guests can get it for 3,700 yen (25.04 USD / € 23.40). The total area of Nasu Highland Park is about 51 hectares. Tokyo Disneyland is about 47 hectares, so it’s roughly the same size. The amusement park itself isn’t very well-known, making it a hidden gem that’s not too crowded. There are a lot of families and young groups of friends. Pets are allowed, so you occasionally see some dogs. There are over 40 types of attractions. It has a kind of retro feel, which is cute. We heard Nasu is relatively cool, but the weather is so good today that it’s super hot. This is the “Big Burn Coaster”. One of the iconic roller coasters of this park! Wow, it does a loop. Looks scary. So, let’s give it a try. ⚠️We have special permission to film this⚠️. ⚠️If you’re not a fan of roller coasters, please watch with caution⚠️. Off we go👋👋👋. From a height of about 40 meters, it descends at a 75° angle and then does a loop. The slow ascent really amps up the excitement. The weather is so nice today! The vast landscape of Nasu Plateau! The greenery is so beautiful. Oh, a Ferris wheel! But our enjoyment of the scenery was short-lived… Whew. That was scarier than we thought! Let’s take a short break… Alright, when you’re here, another must-ride is the “F2”. It’s a thrilling roller coaster where your feet dangle as you’re swung around! Let’s give it a go. ⚠️We have special permission to film this⚠️. ⚠️If you’re not a fan of roller coasters, please watch with caution⚠️. It’s designed so that you hang from the track above. Having your feet suspended really adds an intense feeling. This is crazy! Probably one of the scariest roller coasters in Japan. But it was fun😆! Now, let’s get our key and head to the transparent tent. There are various types of rooms here. Apart from tents, there are also cottages and rental villas in collaboration with Muji. Oh, there’s the transparent tent! Our tent is the furthest in. Here it is! The transparent tent named “AURA”. It comes in three sizes, and ours is the medium one. It’s truly transparent, so you can see right inside. The dome is made of vinyl material and has a honeycomb structure. Up close, it’s slightly foggy. Because you can see outside so well, it feels very spacious and liberating! What’s inside the room, I wonder? An electric mosquito coil. Coffee, green tea, and toothbrushes. Pajamas, face towels, and bath towels. A perfectly sized refrigerator. Insect repellent spray, a flashlight, and an electric kettle The top part is a freezer and the bottom is a refrigerator. Bottled water is complimentary. Both types of water are locally sourced. Air conditioner and blankets. The tent has three small windows. They come with mesh screens and are easy to open and close. A table, cushions, and a tissue box. Four single beds. A stand light and an outlet too. It feels so nice! Now, as you can see, our tent is transparent. But we can close the 360° curtains to maintain our privacy. This is how it looks from the outside. I’m dancing inside, but you can’t see me, can you? There’s a lock on the inside of the door, so we can lock it from within. Right in front of our tent is a paid athletic park named “NOZARU”. The restroom is shared. It’s a regular western-style one. It’s dinner time. Tonight, we have a BBQ buffet! We’ve gotten our meats and veggies. There are also items like fried chicken that we can eat without grilling. After that, grill as much as you want and eat to your heart’s content! Let’s eat. There’s beef, pork, chicken skewers, and plenty of vegetables. It’s pretty good. Last one. Thank you for the meal. The nighttime atmosphere is magical and lovely. Since there are few lights, the paths at night are pitch-black. It’s a bit scary. The transparent tent at night looks like a bubble. So beautiful☺. The sounds of the insects… Really feels like summer. We only have a flashlight and the stand light, so it’s dim but the ambiance is great. They say you can see the starry sky from our tent bed… but it’s cloudy tonight. There are separate public baths near the front desk. That was nice. Well, it’s about time we go to sleep. Good night. Good morning. Even with the curtains closed, we were worried that the sunlight might make our sleep shallow… but we slept surprisingly well. The natural sounds of birds and insects were so soothing and made us feel good. For breakfast, we had a buffet. It mainly offers Japanese and Western dishes. They even use milk from nearby farms for dishes like pancakes and feature local ingredients. Have you ever tried this? You can change its flavor by mixing it with milk. This one is strawberry milk flavor. Let’s eat. From the restaurant, you can see an amusement park and the rich nature of Nasu. We also had dessert. Thank you for the meal! Oh, we spotted a little bird near the front desk. It looks like it popped out of a Disney movie. So cute. Check-out is by 10 am. Our stay, with two meals included for two people, was 45,400 yen (307.21 USD / € 287.08). Staying in the transparent tent felt surreal and fun. Even unprepared, you can have a stylish and clean camping experience here. Hi! We are at Naha Airport in Okinawa Prefecture. Today, we’re going to try staying in a mobile house at an affordable price. Taking a bus from Naha Airport’s platform 2. The Yanbaru Express connects Naha Airport to Unten Port and is a high-speed route bus. This bus is best for Northern Okinawa via public transport. It passes popular spots like the Churaumi Aquarium, and no reservation is needed for the ride. Today, we’ll get off at the bus stop named “Nakijin Castle Ruins Entrance.” It’s about a 2 and a half hour journey from Naha Airport. If you’re driving or renting a car, it takes about an hour and a half. The sea in Okinawa is emerald green. We’ve arrived at the bus stop. Thank you! In Okinawa, butterflies are flying everywhere. Our accommodation today is about a 10-minute walk from the bus stop. We’ve arrived! It’s a trailer house-type resort hotel near the sea. The guardian deity of Okinawa, the Shisa! This building is the front desk. Let’s check in right away. >> Staff: Please head straight towards the sea, and your trailer will be number 6 Got the room key. There’s a row of mobile houses on the property. There are 5 types of houses, and we’re staying in the “Super Deluxe Family Room.” It’s the best room, but the cost for two people was just 13,760 yen (90.69 USD / € 84.80). It’s very affordable, even in the off-season. Oh my! Since coming to Okinawa, we’ve encountered many cute cats! There are even kittens! Too cute… They’ve been living around here, and the kittens were born recently. Why are they so small? They seem to be well-loved by the hotel staff and guests. Surprisingly friendly. We didn’t know there would be cats when we booked, but it was a pleasant surprise. Now, let’s head to our room. Our accommodation is furthest back, by the sea. Looks like we’re being shown the way. Thank you. Here we are. Wow, the beautiful sea is right next door! Yay. Each trailer has its own parking space, free of charge. There’s a large table and chairs on the deck. The key requires a bit of a knack to open. Perhaps for security or insect prevention, there are double doors at the entrance. A shoe cabinet and slippers Let’s change into them. Wow, it’s more spacious inside than I thought. It’s 35 ㎡ and can accommodate 1 to 7 people. Suitable for families too. Whoa, are you okay? We’ve become best friends. Ok, we paused the room tour to take her back to her kittens. Come here. She might like the camera. Just a little more. Come on. (A touching reunion). See you later! So friendly and cute. Now, back to the room tour! The interior is simple, but clean and sophisticated. There’s running water, of course. An electric kettle and dishes. Japanese tea that can be made with hot water. Amenities. Toothbrush. Hairbrush. Hair tie. Body sponge. Razor. The oven isn’t functional, but it enhances the atmosphere. There’s a microwave on top. The fridge is super big. You can bring your own stuff. Plenty of large storage spaces. A minimalist might be able to live here. You can see outside well. But there are proper curtains. The sofa is comfortably ordinary and there’s free Wi-Fi. The TV is quite big. There’s both heating and air conditioning. The restroom is a bit small but clean. The shower can fit one adult. Is this the bedroom? Yes, it’s the bedroom. A Japanese double-size bed fits perfectly in the room. It does sway a bit when you move around, typical for a mobile house. There are two more rooms. Here’s the second restroom. A dormitory-style bedroom! A bed and a TV stand. Bunk beds. It’s more comfortable than I expected. Now, let’s change into our swimsuits and go to the beach and pool. Staying in a trailer feels like being in a secret base, it’s fun. It feels quite private, as we hardly ever ran into other guests. Just down here and you’re at the beach. Wow, the sea is so beautiful! It’s not a private beach, but there’s hardly anyone around since it’s not a tourist area. It’s safe to swim and there are few rip currents, but be careful since there’s no one around. Let’s go in. The temperature is 26°C (78.8°F). The sea feels lukewarm. It’s nice, but it’s high tide, so we should be careful. There’s a shower right by the beach, so it’s very convenient. Back at the hotel, we’ve come to the big pool in the middle! There are benches around and trees that feel like a tropical island, creating a nice atmosphere. Next to it is a restaurant. Wow, the pool is cold! I wish the sun would come out. I think the water is about 1 meter deep. By the poolside, there’s a karaoke bus! This bus will also provide transportation. There are separate public baths for men and women. The public bath doors are usually locked for guests’ safety. Dressing room. Lockers with keys. The washroom has a water dispenser and hairdryers. There’s a bathtub in the back. Nice. There are 6 showers, complete with shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and face soap. It looks like a pool, but it’s actually hot water. There’s even a sauna, which is very appealing! It’s hot. No cold water bath, but you can cool down on the terrace while looking at the sea. Such a beautiful view. It’s relaxing. You can wash your swimsuits and clothes in the coin laundry. It’s great that we can play to our heart’s content. There’s something like a terrace, let’s check it out. Wow, you can see everything from here. It’s beautiful! You can really see the color of the sea. It feels so good. You can lose track of time. There’s our trailer. Let’s head back soon. Glad that there was no rain or typhoon. It’s dinner time now. Let’s go to the restaurant by the poolside. American BBQ Course: 5,000 yen (32.96 USD / € 30.82) per person. Plenty of noodles, meat, and veggies available. No need to bring anything for the BBQ. Such a variety of BBQ sauces comes with this course. There are so many! We ordered pineapple juice and a special drink. Isn’t the pineapple juice super cute? A Corona beer plunged into a cocktail! That’s interesting. This restaurant has a lot of interesting cocktails and alcoholic drinks. Good! Oh, hello again. Now, let’s start the BBQ! Exciting ingredients like large meat and Okinawa’s bitter melon, Goya, boost our excitement. This is good. Oops, I burnt the Goya a bit. It’s starting to cook nicely. Looks delicious. The spare ribs are huge! So heavy! This meat over here has cooked up tenderly. Let’s pile lots on our plates. So many sauces to choose from. Which one should I go for? Let’s eat! Yummy!! ⚠️Cuteness overload alert! Too cute. Cutting it up with scissors. The atmosphere here is great. Lastly, the Yakisoba. Fry the vegetables and noodles, then season with a sweet and spicy sauce. Turned out well! Thank you for the meal. We’ve now joined in creating a collaborative drink at this restaurant. It’s a peach-based cocktail. Cute! Even the dolphin would love it. Please come and see our drink and the signed bill we left here. You’ll probably meet the kittens too. The night atmosphere is also very nice. Beautiful illuminations. We’re full. Let’s go back to our room. There are two bedrooms, but I think we’ll sleep in the double bed. Good night. Good morning. Since it’s low tide this morning, we decided to get up early for a sea dive. A staff member told us there are lots of fish around those rocks over there. It’s beautiful. The water level is much lower than last evening, and the sea seems calmer. It’s shallow enough to walk, but it’s rocky, so marine shoes or sandals are necessary. Let’s dive in. Wow, there are so many blue fish! Cute! The water is really clear. We heard there are nemos, but we couldn’t find them. For breakfast, we have two options: a Japanese set and a Western set. The Japanese one is an Okinawa specialty, sea grapes bowl! The Western one is French toast. Breakfast on the deck of our room. The view of the sea is clear, and it’s so pleasant. Okinawa’s beauty is not just its seas but also the richness of its nature. A crab! Cute. Coenobita purpureus Stimpson. It’s a natural monument. *By the way, it’s prohibited to take corals or shells from Okinawa’s beaches. It was reasonably priced for Okinawa—just over 10,000 yen for two people, and great value. The trailer stay was comfier and more fun than expected. Lots of English speakers in Okinawa. Easy for travelers. Hello from above! We’re heading to Fukuoka, located in the southern part of Japan, a gateway to Asia. Fukuoka Airport is just two hours from Haneda and is close to downtown Fukuoka. Tonight, we’re staying overnight at a park near Hakata Bay. We’ll be staying in a tent, so I hope it doesn’t rain. But it’s not looking good… Anyway, we arrived safely at Fukuoka Airport. There are several ways to get to today’s accommodation. If you’re coming from the airport, taking a taxi directly is the best option. It’s about a 25-minute drive from Fukuoka Airport. The accommodation is on a site surrounded by Hakata Bay and Genkai Sea. We’ll cross the Uminonakamichi Bridge over Hakata Bay to get there. By the way, it’s just a 15-minute drive to Shingu Port, where you can catch a ferry to Ainoshima, the cat island. We’ve arrived. Thank you. Tonight’s accommodation is located here in the Uminonakamichi Seaside Park. It’s not sunny, but I’m glad the rain stopped! Uminonakamichi Seaside Park is huge, spanning about 350 hectares. And it has so many facilities, like an aquarium, a rose garden, and an outdoor venue. Since it’s so large, there are several entrances. The closest one to the accommodation is the “Hikari to Kaze no Hiroba” entrance. You’ll need to pay an additional admission fee to enter the park. If you pay at the entrance, it’s cash only. 450 yen per adult. Okay, let’s hand over the ticket and head inside. Wow, it’s so spacious all the way back. The building immediately to the left is a café and the reception. The café’s hours are a bit short, from 11 AM to 4 PM, so keep that in mind. It’s so cute. Weekdays offer drinks and desserts, and weekends include lunch options. They’re also selling some cute souvenirs up front. They had some cute apparel and even dog food for sale. Check-in starts at 3 PM. Since we have some time, we ordered a coffee. It’s authentic hand-drip coffee. You can also get it to-go, but since it’s a bit chilly today, we’ll enjoy it inside. The café is stylish, the coffee is tasty, and it’s a very cozy place to be. You can check in at the reception in the café. There are three types of rooms. And this time, we’re staying in a spherical tent. Alright, let’s head to our tent! The “INN THE PARK” where you can stay overnight in a park is also located in Shizuoka. We actually stayed there two years ago. We had such a great stay then, so we’re really looking forward to this one too. In Shizuoka, the spherical tents are suspended from trees. But here, the tents are built right on the ground. The accommodation fee is 16,720 yen (106.92 USD / €101.42) per person including two meals. You can stay without meals, but I’d recommend adding the meal plan. Inside is a simple one-room layout. Very nice. The tent is 28 square meters, fitting up to three adults. With a high, round ceiling and windows, it feels surprisingly open. Let’s switch to slippers. You can take them home. There’s a fridge right in front of the bed. And there are four complimentary water bottles! An electric kettle. An air conditioner. Even though it was a bit chilly, we were comfortable. A table and chairs. There’s a round bench in the back. Let’s try sitting in the chair. On the table, there are glasses, a wine opener, and some snacks. There are snowball cookies, my favorite, for each of us. So tasty! They also had roasted green tea bags. On the back bench, there was a basket and some bags. Inside the basket were a hand mirror and hangers. This is the bath set. It includes bath towels, face towels, and toothbrushes. There are two semi-double beds. You can charge your devices beside the bed. There’s a flashlight for the night path. There are windows covered in semi-transparent plastic. And zipper windows that can bring in fresh air. With so much nature around, some bugs visit. The entrance is locked with a padlock. The spherical tents don’t have running water, so the baths and toilets are shared. There are 13 tents, and one sanitary building. Depending on where your tent is, it might be a bit far. They also have suites with private baths and toilets, which we’ll show you later. This container-like building is the sanitary building. It’s accessible 24 hours. There are several private toilets. And surprisingly clean for park toilets. The wash basins are also very clean and nice. There are separate large baths for men and women. The bathhouse has a traditional Japanese bath style, located by Hakata Bay. It’s very spacious and has a refreshing vibe! There are plenty of showers. Shampoo, conditioner, and body soap. Even if your tent doesn’t have a bath, the large public bath is more than enough. With Hakata Bay right in front, it feels so open! (For security, the sea-side curtains in the women’s bath are usually closed.) You can still relax to the sound of the waves. In addition to the spherical tents, there are two other types of rooms. Let’s take a peek. First, we have the “Cabin,” which is shaped like a container. It doesn’t have a bath or toilet, making it a small room ideal for couples or solo travelers. The view of Hakata Bay is its main attraction. Next, the “Terrace House,” the only room with its own bath and toilet. It fits up to four adults and is pretty roomy at about 50 square meters. It has a tatami room and a bedroom. If there are three or more guests, an extra bed is provided. There’s a sink and bath in the far back. With large windows, it’s spacious and stylish. The toilet is also very clean! Like the Cabin, it faces Hakata Bay, offering amazing views and sounds. It’s such a wonderful room! They also offer limited spots for bringing your own tent. There’s a large pond right in front of our spherical tent. Many different birds come to play here. The wind is strong, but it doesn’t look like it’ll rain… Let’s go explore the park! Hotel guests can borrow bicycles and electric kick scooters for free. Going at 14 km per hour. Unfortunately, with the park closing at 5:30 PM, we’re out of time. The park is so vast that we got lost and didn’t make it anywhere. But that’s also a fun memory. It was a good time. The view of the park after closing is something only hotel guests get to enjoy. Here’s the spherical tent from across the pond. It looks a bit surreal and cute. In the distance, you can see the cityscape of Hakata, Tenjin, and other parts of Fukuoka. At night, the spherical tents light up. It’s magical and beautiful! All the tents light up, whether occupied or not. Tonight, it’s barbecue time. This large dome tent is the barbecue venue. There’s even a disco ball spinning! Music is playing, and the atmosphere is fantastic. It’s a barbecue, but we don’t need to prepare anything. >> Staff: This is a French barbecue, served in a kebab style. >> Staff: We have three main dishes. >> Staff: Grass-fed beef steak… >> Staff: kebab-style confit chicken thighs, with spices prepared by our chef… >> Staff: and mackerel from Shikanoshima. Ordered a beer with a quirky package. This is a Fukuoka craft beer, a collaboration with a local rice cracker. Being able to enjoy local drinks during a trip is a nice touch. Oh no, it might get too foamy. Crisis averted. My husband is also having beer today, which is rare. Non-alcoholic, though. Cheers! The grass-fed beef steak is a hearty 150 grams. Let’s grill the chicken thighs and mackerel, too. Charcoal grilling can be a hassle to set up and clean, so it’s great to enjoy it hands-free. It smells gooood. The mackerel is grilled perfectly! Looks delicious. They recommend the beef cooked medium-rare. How long? Maybe it’s ready? Salt and pepper. Tender and just right. The meat itself has a rich flavor, and even with just salt and pepper, it was good. Since the chicken thighs are confit, just a little grilling on both sides is enough. So tender and tasty. The kebab set includes salad and roasted potatoes. Let’s pile everything onto the tortilla. Chili kebab sauce and garlic mayonnaise. Adding the confit chicken to the tortilla with plenty of sauce. This will make the beer even better. Maybe I should have added more toppings. It was super tasty! Hotel guests can also reserve a course dinner at the restaurant, which sounds nice. BBQ is only available from April to October, so we’re glad we chose it this time! It’s the camping vibe with gourmet food, hands-free. The romantic atmosphere created by the disco ball was also amazing. Thank you for the meal. Near the café, there’s a fire pit. And from 6 PM to 9 PM, they light a bonfire. The fire pit is quite large. You can enjoy roasting marshmallows as a dessert after dinner. Stretchy. Oops, burned it a little. Yummy. Cheers with marshmallows with my husband. Today is a digital detox day. It’s time to relax. There’s a playroom nearby. You can borrow outdoor toys like frisbees and board games for free, even on rainy days. It’s open until midnight, so it’s nice to use after dinner or a bath. At the back wall, there’s a lineup of records—it looks so cool. You can even play your favorite music. In the distance, you can see the city lights over the sea. It’s a quiet, magical view here that contrasts with the bustling cityscape. We could even see a few stars. Alright, back to our spherical tent. Good night. Good morning. We woke up to the sunlight coming through the ceiling window. You can’t block outside sounds or light, but the tent is stable, and with the AC, I slept well. The weather’s perfectly clear today. Good morning, little stray cat. Oh, with no wind today, the tent reflects beautifully in the pond. Found an adorable one! The weather is great, so let’s have a breakfast picnic under a tree. You can borrow picnic sheets from the playroom. Breakfast is available for pick-up at the café from 8 to 9 AM. This juice is absolutely delicious. The breakfast set also comes with a drink of your choice. The breakfast looks great and really brightens your day. The view is beautiful, the breeze feels nice—it’s perfect. The salad has a nice salty dressing. Thank you for the meal. Checkout time is 10 AM. But you can still enjoy the park at your own pace. So, we’re heading to the horseback riding ranch in the park. The horses’ coats are shiny and beautiful. Depending on the course, you can enjoy horseback riding from 7,500 yen for 30 minutes. It’s open to all levels, but you need to book a day in advance. I’m, of course, opting for the beginner course. My partner today is Peppy. Alright, here we go. Even for total beginners, the instructor kindly guides you, so you’re in safe hands. Let’s go. Usually, the instructor also rides a horse to guide and lead. But for me, they walked in front to support. Peppy kindly led me along, such a gentle horse. Following our tent stay, this was another extraordinary experience. Depending on the course, you can also go through pine forests or down to the beach. The park is vast, offering unique views that you can’t find elsewhere. Horseback riding in this spacious, scenic place by the sea was amazing. It was so beautiful and impressive! Thank you, Peppy. Now we’re at an athletic tower called “Sea Dragoon.” It’s 17 meters high with 92 different activities. It’s massive. They said an hour wouldn’t be enough to complete everything. So, we skipped the athletic course and went up to the observation deck. Wow! You can see both the pond and the sea. Hi, we are at Utsunomiya station in Tochigi prefecture. Utsunomiya is about an hour from Tokyo by Shinkansen, is a town famous for gyoza and strawberries. Today we will stay overnight in a Mongolian style tent. First, we will head to Kuroiso Station, about an hour train ride from Utsunomiya Station. After arriving at Kuroiso Station, we will take a public bus to the bus stop “Yuuai no Mori”. It will take about 15 minutes. The hotel is about 5 minutes from “Yuuai no Mori” by free shuttle bus. It’s a little complicated if you go by train and bus. The hotel has a parking lot, so you can also go by car. Here. This is a hotel where you can stay in a Mongolian nomadic tent called “Ger”. This building is the front desk. Wow, there are a lots of Mongolian interiors, goods and more. For 1,000 yen (6.91 USD / € 7.20) for 30 minutes, you can rent a Mongolian national costume. It’s vivid and cute. There are both for adults and children. There is also a Mongolian sumo set. Would you like to try it on? Many Mongolian goods such as T-shirts and pouches are also on sale🇲🇳. The room rate this time is 22,300 yen (154.09 USD / € 160.56) per room including dinner and breakfast. Now that we’ve checked in and received room key, let’s head to our tent. Restaurant🍽 It seems that you can also eat outdoors. Ah, the white tents came into view. That’s the ger. This hotel currently has 30 gers. “Ger” is a Mongolian dwelling. Some countries call it “yurt”. It is easy to assemble and transport, so it is one of the important cultures for Mongolian nomads who live on the move. This is our ger. The bright red door with the pattern is very cute. It’s pretty big. One ger can accommodate up to 6 people. The door is low, so be careful not to bump your head. Wow, It’s orange and so cute! Four beds are lined up against the wall. The ger and furniture of this hotel are directly imported from Mongolia. They are delicate and beautiful. Let’s take a closer look at the room. Shoe rack. Outdoor sandals. Wooden desk and chairs. What’s this? Mongolian hot pot? Chairs are very small. User guides and 2 bed sheets. 2 face towels. 2 toothbrushes. 2 bath towels. There is a ventilation fan and a closet in the back of the room. It’s pretty big and has a lot of hangers. Small refrigerator. Safety box with key. 3 outlet power strip. lighting and outlet. Tissue box. Telephone connected to the front desk. Flashlight, insect repellent and mirror. It seems that you can purchase a bonfire set or borrow games and chargers. Of course you can watch TV. Air conditioner. It’s cold today, so we will turn on the heater. I think this is probably for drying bath towels. 🐎💨🐎💨. Free Wi-Fi is fast. You will be very comfortable. The restroom and bath are outside the room. There are 3 toilet huts, and they are close to any ger. It is a clean restroom with a washbasin and bidet system. The large public bath is located next to the front desk. Since there is no one now, they specially allowed us to look inside. take off your shoes. The changing room is spacious and clean. Hairdryer and skin care are available. By the way, pajamas must be brought from home. Shower. Shampoo, conditioner and body soap. The hot spring with a cypress bathtub. It’s large. There is also a larger hot spring with a rock bathtub. And so, there is also an open-air bath!♨ That’s just like a Japanese onsen ryokan. I wonder if there is a hot spring in Mongolia too? it’s time for dinner. Let’s go to the restaurant. It’s a cute restaurant. It’s like an arts and crafts room in elementary school. haha Here is the appetizer. I like the wakasagi in sweet and spicy vinegar in the middle. Japanese wagyu meat and vegetables. All-you-can-eat white rice from Tochigi Prefecture. And all-you-can-eat soup made with Tochigi eggs and Mongolian rock salt. Let’s eat. There is a griddle at the table and we grill by ourselves. Mmm, It’s so delicious!! This is Yakisoba(stir-fried noodles). It’s a Japanese food. The sweet sauce and noodles were a perfect match. And then there is the ice cream buffet. I like pear flavored ice cream. It was all good. Thank you for the delicious meal! After dinner, there will be a Matouqin performance by a Mongolian player. We weren’t allowed to take videos during the performance, but we were allowed to take some special shots after the performance. The matouqin is a Mongolian folk instrument. The beautiful tone gave me goosebumps…! Let’s make a fire! Bonfire set with marshmallows: 2,500 yen (17.27 USD / € 18.00). We will go to a forest-like bonfire-only space in the back of the hotel. It feels like going to a secret base and I’m excited. I’ll leave it to my boyfriend to start the fire. What? It looks like the fire is about to go out. The fire has gone out… let’s get revenge. When we told the staff that our fire had failed, he gave us some extra candles and gave us some tips on how to start a fire. The staff are very kind. Thank you very much. Yeah, we got a beautiful fire. Roast and eat marshmallows. I ended up burning it a little, but it’s sweet and delicious. From 9:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., all exterior lights on the hotel grounds will be turned off. The starry sky is so beautiful with the naked eye, but I’m sad that the camera didn’t show it at all. In the quiet darkness, all I can see is this fire. Listening to the sounds of nature is really calming. The fire is over and the outside lights are on, so let’s go back soon. One thin futon and one thin mattress. It’s single size. The pillow and comforter are nice and soft. Good night. Good morning. I slept well. it’s cloudy today☁︎ We are going to have breakfast at the restaurant. Breakfast is a buffet. Bread, rice, Mongolian boiled lamb, Tochigi specialty Imo Fry (fried potatoes), etc. There are a lot of different foods and drinks. Let’s eat! The food at this restaurant is really delicious. Dessert is fruit yogurt and pudding. I feel like it’s rare to have pudding in a buffet. It’s time to go. The total cost of accommodation was 24,800 yen (171.42 USD / € 178.56), including meals and a bonfire. Hi! We’re staying at an “Ice Hotel” in Hokkaido, the northernmost part of Japan. You can see the Tokyo Skytree from here. Tokyo looks like a miniature model from up here. Over there, you can see Mount Fuji! The flight from Haneda Airport in Tokyo to New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido takes about 2 hours. I fell asleep and before I knew it, we had entered a snowy country. Beautiful. We’ve arrived at New Chitose Airport. We’re moving to TOMAMU Station, the closest station to our hotel. It takes about 90 minutes from the airport to TOMAMU Station. TOMAMU Station is unmanned. From March 2024, all seats will be reserved. Consider getting your paper ticket at a major station ahead of time. Look! There are horses running! We’re taking a shuttle bus from the station. There are several buses, but the staff will guide us. The bus ride from the station to the RISONARE Tomamu where we’re staying takes about 10 minutes. It’s amazing how the bus drivers navigate through the snow. Suddenly, a hotel-like building appears in the midst of nature. Is that it? We’ve arrived. Thank you very much. “Hoshino Resort TOMAMU” is one of the largest stay-type snow resorts in Hokkaido. There are two hotels on the premises, and we are staying at “RISONARE Tomamu.” The front desk & lounge area looks like this. It’s stylish with a fire pit. We’re checking in and getting our amenities, keys, and meal tickets. To stay at the “Ice Hotel,” you also need to book a regular room inside. Check-in for the Ice Hotel starts at 10 PM, so let’s go to the indoor room first. We’re in a ‘Designed Suite Twin Room.’ It costs 54,000 yen (362.78 USD / € 336.71) for two, meals included. Let’s change into slippers. Oh, it’s beautiful and nice! The atmosphere is calming. You can see the ski slope from the large window in the back. This ski slope is also within the Hoshino Resort TOMAMU premises. It’s huge. Everyone is skiing! I’d like to go if we have time. The guest room is spacious at 100 ㎡, with the bath and other facilities towards the back. The high-ceiling observation jet bath has a great view. There’s a large mirror at the washbasin, and two faucets make it easy to use. Skincare products and a hairdryer are provided. Towels and bathrobes. And there’s even a sauna right in front. Wow, that’s great. Of course, there’s a shower room and toilet inside the room. This is the bedroom. If it’s too cold at the Ice Hotel, we’ll switch to this bed. This room also has a large window with a nice view. Apparently, there’s a pool over there. That’s another hotel, “Tomamu The Tower.” It’s closer to other facilities than RISONARE where we are, so it’s better for those who want to stay active. Our hotel is all-suite rooms, more for relaxing and taking it easy rather than playing around. Exiting the bedroom circles back to the entrance. It’s a spacious and nice room, isn’t it? This hotel offers multilingual support, so you’ll be fine even if you don’t understand Japanese. This booklet contains guides in English and Chinese. Bubble bath additive. A squishy gel type. Lots of light switches. The room’s warm with good AC. Inside the shelf, there are tea cups and Japanese tea cups. Simple and clean. Japanese green tea bags. Wine glasses and coffee drip bags. Melon tea?! Sounds delicious! Water is drawn into a dedicated pitcher. A water dispenser is located in the first-floor lounge. It’s stylish. Both hot and cold water are available. Back in the room, it’s tea time. Trying the green tea and the intriguing melon tea. The melon tea has an amazing aroma! There’s a stylish round table in front of the large window, giving a café vibe. The melon tea is good. I’ll have to take one home. Rent wear for two days for 8,000 yen(53.87 USD / € 50.16). You can add ski/snowboard gear as an option. The hotel is very large, so there’s a shuttle bus running about every 15 minutes. Came to the Buffet Dining hal for dinner! There’s a live cooking for meat and seafood dishes. Looks good. It’s bustling with many people. A must in Hokkaido! Definitely want to try crab and salmon. The desserts also look beautiful. Brought back a lot. Udon, spring rolls, prosciutto, tempura, and just a variety of everything. The sashimi is plump and delicious. Love Hokkaido’s cuisine. Especially this crab gratin is so delicious and makes me happy. There are many restaurants within the facility, but if you’re drawn to all-you-can-eat crab, hal is recommended. Wow, got to see fireworks by chance! Lucky. Thank you for the meal. It was delicious. Now, let’s go to the “Ice Village,” which also has an Ice Hotel. The Ice Village is a seasonal event held every winter. Here’s the ice gate. Amazing. Guests staying in TOMAMU can enter for free. Apparently, the Ice Village alone spans 3.2 hectares. Wow, projection mapping. Just ice and snow everywhere. It’s a fantastical world. In the back, there are many cute domes made of ice and snow, forming a small town. This dome is apparently an ice bar. Wow, amazing. All white. The drinks look cool. Everything pops in the clear, white setting. Even the counter, tables, and chairs are all made of ice. There are cushions on the chairs, just in case. Let’s get a cocktail made. Frozen ice cocktail: 1,500 yen (10.09 USD / € 9.40). Let’s enjoy it in an ice seat. Blue Curacao + rum + sherbet-like soda. So pretty. I’m not great at mixing it. The glass is of course made of ice. Too cold! Tastes like a Blue Hawaii shaved ice. Good. This dome is an ice convenience store. Products from Hokkaido’s local convenience store are displayed on ice shelves. Are they frozen? We’ll buy something. We chose a Hokkaido melon jelly. It wasn’t frozen due to the temperature, but it’s cold and good. We also bought a dorayaki with a Hokkaido mark. If it were frozen, it would still be delicious like ice cream. This is the ice atelier. The Ice Village has a 25-year history, and there were displays of timelines and photos from the past. Ice bread? Interesting. Got an Ice Village limited edition postcard. There are pens and desks, so you can write letters on the spot. Cute stamps. The temperature in this dome is -5.2°C (22.64°F). There’s a postbox made of ice outside. It apparently really delivers. An ice ramen restaurant?! >> Staff: Thank you for waiting, here’s your ice ramen. Ice ramen: 1,500 yen (10.09 USD / € 9.40). Cold ramen in an ice bowl! The soup is added like seasoning on top, crunchy. The noodles aren’t frozen, but the toppings are. The texture is interesting. Yes, it’s good! It’s kind of like cold chilled Chinese noodles. After eating so much, let’s try the zipline. It’s a bit scary, but here I go. From 7:30, there’s a 25th-anniversary fireworks event. ※Apologies for the interruption in music due to copyright reasons. It was very beautiful and moving. This is the “Chapel on the water.” It’s used for weddings during the day and open for viewing at night. A cross should be floating on the water, but snow has turned it into a ‘Chapel on the snow.’ The floating cross and trees look mystical. The Ice Village also has an “Ice Chapel.” You can actually have a wedding ceremony here. All ice and snow. So white, it’s almost blinding. It’s so cold inside. I wonder what kind of dress the bride and groom wear. Pure white and really beautiful. It’s like another world. All the chairs are made of ice, so it’s tough for the attendees too. Thank you all for attending. An unforgettable wedding for all. (The staff opened it for us, thank you). And tonight, we’re staying in the Ice Hotel next to the Ice Chapel. Check-in is at 10:00 pm. The Ice Hotel has hot springs but no showers. So, we’re heading back to RISONARE for now. It’s up to the guests whether to stay in the Ice Hotel or the indoor rooms. We plan to sleep in the Ice Hotel, so let’s warm up while we can… The hair dryer is from Mod’s Hair. Let’s head back to the Ice Village. The Ice Hotel is exclusively for one group per day, meaning it’s all to ourselves. We’re climbing up the stairs made of ice. This is the entrance. The door is the only part not made of ice. About 8.5m across, made from a single ice block without joints. Everywhere you look, it’s ice, ice, ice. >> Staff: The average temperature inside the Ice Hotel is minus 7°C. >> Staff: We offer down sleeping bags good to -30°C and warm pajamas for your comfort. >> Staff: All is made of ice, so please be mindful to avoid damage or injury. It’s warmer than outside, but still quite cold. The floor around the bed is made of ice. The ice parts are very slippery. It’s a fantastical world of white and transparency. The accommodation fee is 28,000 yen (188.42 USD / € 175.55) per person per night. Our midnight snack, clam chowder, has arrived! It comes with bread. It’s filled with Hokkaido seafood like shrimp, crab, and scallops. It’s the best. And there’s plenty of it. The spoon stuck to the ice table. The warmth is soaking into my body… We’ll also enjoy the bread. This is really delicious! Even though I should be full, I ate a lot. Midnight snacks, and drinks are all included in the accommodation fee. We’ll have them later. Ice chairs and a mini table. There are cushions, so your bottom won’t get cold. Sitting here, the ceiling and walls made of snow are incredible. There’s an ice bookshelf. It’s very quiet, so it might be good for reading. Though it’s cold. There’s also a Bluetooth speaker. There’s no particular echo, so it sounds nice. Is this an ice desk? The outlet is embedded in the ice. There’s also a light switch for the room. And what’s behind this door…? We’re walking down a path surrounded by ice walls. This cabin is the only heated room. You can change here, and amenities like towels and toothbrushes are also available here. And further inside… There’s an open-air bath made of ice! The surroundings of the bath are snow and ice. It’s nicely lit up. The water comes from ‘Yunosawa Onsen’ in the local village. So, I’m changing into a swimsuit for a bathing challenge. It’s so cold I might die. (The sound of bare feet on snow). It’s hot but cold. Makes no sense. Towering birch trees. I got out early, but my body is getting super hot with a delay. Let’s head back to our room. We’ve changed into the fluffy pajamas. It’s like a costume. There’s a wide variety of alcohol, including wine and whiskey. OMG, the wine bottle got stuck to the ice shelf and won’t come off. Juices and snacks are also provided. It’s time for an evening party. Surprisingly, the drinks aren’t frozen. Happy with these local Hokkaido cheese and potato snacks. The cheese crackers are a perfect match for the wine. It’s the best. We also lit an ice candle for a romantic touch. Lovely. By the way, there are no toilets or sinks in the ice hotel. Heading to the external cabins is a hassle, but walking through the empty Ice Village is fun. There are two toilets available. At night, we’ll use sleeping bags. These sleeping bags withstand temperatures to minus 30°C. Instead of directly on the ice floor, let’s sleep on a mattress. It already looks like someone is inside with that silhouette. It’s down-filled, so it’s fluffy. It even comes with something like a neck pillow. Here’s hoping we don’t freeze to death. Goodnight. Good morning. We are alive!! The down sleeping bag was warmer than I expected and I slept well. Early morning in the Ice Village. Beautiful. Still not used to the cold… it’s cold in the morning too. It snowed during the night, so there are no footprints anywhere, just pure white. Came for breakfast. It’s in the same restaurant as dinner. Arrived first at the restaurant this morning. There are lots of tables with various dishes. Breakfast includes a wide selection of bread, salads, and soups. There are also Hokkaido seafood dishes and Japanese cuisine. The dinner menu is different, but the variety is just as rich. There’s a live cooking here. >> Staff: We have French toast. A beautiful and colorful breakfast awaits. The drinks are cute. Alright, we’ve brought a variety! Let’s eat. Everything is good. Thank you for the meal. The icicles are amazing. The blizzard is amazing too. Since check-out from the ice hotel is at 8 am, we’re heading back to our room at the RISONARE. We wanted to have chocolate at a place called “Terrace of Frost Tree” on top of the mountain, but… The gondola stopped due to strong winds. Oh, the lift has stopped too. But then it started moving again right away. It’s crowded! Please be careful, everyone. Check-out is at 11 am. Actually, you can walk around the premises, not just take the bus. Wow, so much snow has piled up! This is the forest restaurant “Nininupuri.” It’s a buffet, but this restaurant specializes in meat dishes. Walking through the tunnel-like pathways is fun, but it’s as cold as outside. We’ve come to a mall in the middle of the ski slope called “hotalu street.” It’s about a 10-minute walk from RISONARE. Cafe & Bar Tsukino. Mainly burgers, perhaps? Came here for these kotatsu seats! With the blizzard outside, we opted for indoor kotatsu seats. Warm and cozy. Happy. Special Oden Pot for two: 6,000 yen (40.38 USD / € 37.61). Hokkaido-style oden packed with seafood and vegetables. The kelp broth is so flavorful—warm and perfect. The boiled crab is incredibly good!! Sake with broth: 600 yen (4.03 USD / € 3.76). Perfectly matches the oden. The finishing is Ochazuke (rice soaked with broth)! Comes in a cute gondola-shaped box with side dishes. Salmon roe, shredded kelp, crab miso, and about 10 types of condiments. You can top as much as you like and enjoy different flavors. The rice in the clay pot is shiny and inviting. Pour the broth over it to complete the ochazuke. I couldn’t help but finish everything. Since we can’t ski, we’ll enjoy my ice cream while watching the slopes. Thank you for watching this far. See you next time.
