HOKKAIDO TRAVEL TIPS: Backpack or Suitcase?
Welcome to the “HOKKAIDO NOW” channel! In this video, we will tell you about one point you should be careful of when traveling in Hokkaido. Don’t forget to subscribe! Traveling always comes with luggage. Many visitors in Hokkaido pull large suitcases as they walk. In winter and early spring, cold weather means bulkier clothes and more gear. Some travelers even carry multiple large bags. But this is snowy Hokkaido, Japan. During winter, snow piles up—and in early spring, melting and refreezing leave roads full of bumps, slush, and puddles. Especially in early spring, walking conditions can be extremely difficult. Small-wheeled suitcases struggle to roll over snowbanks and uneven surfaces. Lifting heavy luggage while walking is truly exhausting. When you can’t move your bags smoothly, your trip can quickly become frustrating. But even in these conditions, some people move with ease. They’re traveling with large backpacks. Backpacks free your hands—so if you slip, you can catch yourself.
And if you fall backwards, your backpack cushions the impact. For winter or early spring travel in Hokkaido, backpacks are a smart choice. If you do bring a suitcase, consider sending it from the airport to your hotel by delivery service, or taking a taxi from the station. Even outside of snowy seasons, backpacks make travel in Hokkaido more comfortable. You might think the road is smoother than the sidewalk—but please, don’t walk in the street. In Hokkaido, walking on the road is strongly discouraged. During cold seasons, cars may slip and can’t stop or turn quickly. Walking on the road is very dangerous. Please stay safe. Winter in Hokkaido can be tough. But with a little preparation and knowledge, your trip can be safe and enjoyable. I hope this helps with your travels in Hokkaido. Don’t forget to like and subscribe!
