Kei Nishikori
20th June 2025 – (Tokyo) Japanese tennis star Kei Nishikori, 35, has issued a public apology following revelations of a two-and-a-half-year affair with model Azuki Oguchi. The scandal, first reported by Shūkan Bunshun, has drawn widespread attention, with Nishikori expressing deep remorse for the hurt caused to his family and supporters.
In a statement released through his management, Nishikori acknowledged his “dishonest behaviour” and apologised to fans, sponsors, and tennis associations for the inconvenience and concern he had caused. “I deeply regret making my wife and children feel hurt,” he stated, adding that he plans to focus on tennis and work towards regaining trust.
Nishikori married Mai Yamaguchi, also known by her stage name Ako Mizuki, in 2020 after a five-year relationship. The couple has two young children. Reports suggest that Nishikori first met Oguchi in Hawaii shortly before his wedding ceremony in 2022, marking the start of their affair.
Shūkan Bunshun also reported that the two were recently photographed leaving Oguchi’s residence together, reigniting speculation about their relationship. Despite the personal turmoil, Nishikori, currently ranked 66th in the ATP, has vowed to refocus on his career.
Previously a top-four-ranked player and a 2014 US Open finalist, Nishikori has been recovering from injuries and recently withdrew from Wimbledon. He aims to rebuild his reputation both on and off the court.
