FARGO — The Plains Art Museum has an exhibition of wood block prints on display depicting life for women from the Edo period of Japanese culture.
The exhibition is called Floating Beauty: Women in the art of Ukiyo-e.
It is an art style of carving images into wooden blocks that have ink applied and pressed onto paper for the final product.
The Edo period ran from 1603 to 1867 and the prints on display depict the lives of women of different social status in everyday life of that time.
Included with the art are some objects from the period, including hair pins and a pair of kimonos.
The kimonos are owned by Mika Usuki, the Japan outreach initiative coordinator for the Plains Art Museum.
The exhibition runs until September 28.
