淡路島がこんなに楽しいなんて!大人がときめくひとり旅Vlog ♯1 南あわじ編

Awaji Island 2 nights 3 days trip #1 Minami Awaji edition. JR Sannomiya Station. Currently on a trip to Awaji Island. I’m at JR Sannomiya Station. From here, I’ll take an express bus to Awaji Island. Awaji Island is a place I used to go fishing in the past. It’s a place that I have a lot of feelings for. But I’ve never been to the tourist spots. This is my first time going to the tourist spots of Awaji Island. It’s been 5 years since I last went to Awaji Island. I’m really looking forward to it (^^). First, I head to the express bus stop. The stop is right next to the station. This time I’ll use the Shinki bus. There is also a JR express bus. Is this it? The Port Tower has been renovated, so I’d like to visit Kobe again. The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge! It’s been a while since I crossed the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge (^^). This is the itinerary for this Awaji Island trip. On the first day, I will visit the south of Awaji Island. On the second day, I will visit the center of Awaji Island. And on the last day, I will visit the north side of the island. From now, I will go to Sumoto. From there, I will get in a rental car. I will head to Fukura. My initial plan was not to use a car, but since the free shuttle bus around Fukura ended on March 31, 2025, I quickly prepared a rental car. There is a bus, but the number of services is small. It is inefficient, so I rented a car. Akashi is famous for sea bream. I wonder if it is a good fishing ground there. We will soon land on Awaji Island. There is a Ferris wheel! That is Awaji SA. Is that Wakayama over there ? Sumoto Bus Center is coming up soon . Then, let’s go to pick up the rental car. This time, it is a slightly unusual rental car. It is a hybrid of rental car and car sharing. The best attraction is that you don’t have to fill up with gas and return it. It’s a first-time place and I’m lost. I’ve been into Workman lately. I bought my jacket at Workman. I wonder. This time I will use “Sky Rental Car Smart Service”. It’s good. Now that I’m all set, shall I go? The weather is nice! It’s about 40 minutes from here to Fukura. In Fukura, we will first go on the whirlpool cruise. Driving is fun! . We drive briskly along the road surrounded by greenery. Is this it? The parking lot was free. It was full even though it was a weekday. There was just one car left. It’s a big roadside station. In front of us is the “Awaji Ningyoza”. And this is “Roadside Station Fukura”. The cruise ship is about to depart, so let’s go. There are two types of cruise ships, the “Kanrin Maru” and the “Nippon Maru”. Both are large ships that can carry 500 people. The ship we are about to board has a high expectation of whirlpools (^^). We bought the tickets in advance, so we just got the tickets. As expected, it is popular. Is that it! . The ship we are about to board is the “Kanrin Maru”. It is modeled after a steam sailing ship once built in the Netherlands by the Edo Shogunate. That is it! . This is the Grand Mercure Awajishima Resort & Spa where we are staying tonight. It is all-inclusive! . I used to live in Kobe all the time. This is my first time seeing whirlpools. I was wondering whether to board the Kanrin Maru or the Nippon Maru. The Kanrin Maru has a lot of digital attractions and onboard exhibits, so I decided to board the Kanrin Maru . Here is the timetable for the day I boarded. The departure time varies depending on the day. It may be related to the high tide time. The ship has a three-story structure. I am heading to the “Bridge Deck”. This is Onomichi, a port city, and is produced by Joysys, a company that has been making ship interiors and furniture for 100 years. It has a great sense of openness! . It has a pleasant view. If you are not careful, the seats will be full… There are no good seats available… Let’s take a walk around the ship a little. This is the VIP room. It seems that you can rent it out for a fee. Let’s go to the bottom. We are at the bottom, the second deck. Here you can see the Uzushio Channel and the Awaji Sky View. Images taken by a 360° drone are projected. At this time, images of Fukura were being shown. And there was a digital aquarium. Life-sized silhouettes of fish that live in the Naruto Strait were swimming around. Kids would love it (^^). It was huge. There was a play area for kids at the very back. We might be setting sail soon. The top is probably full, so let’s stay around here. The waves are very calm around here. It looks like it would be very impressive to see the whirlpools from here (^^). We’re about to set sail. It seems like there’s a departure event up above… Setting sail. You can see the water cannons up above. Is that it… It’s best to be up there when you set sail… The cruise course is as follows. The cruise time is 60 minutes. 20 minutes to the viewing point. 20 minutes to view the whirlpools. 20 minutes on the return journey. That’s it! The Onaruto Bridge! That’s it! There’s something human-like about it. It’s going pretty fast though. It’s not rocking at all. There are various interesting facts explained along the way. You will gain a lot of knowledge. The timing of the explanation is perfect. There may be someone who is making the person above me explain. It’s windy on the boat. Eh? That boat is a demonstration of the recently started “Super High Speed Scream Cruise”. This is going to make you scream. Finally we arrived. Whirlpools are a natural phenomenon that occurs when three factors overlap: the speed of the tides, the topography of the seabed, and a narrow strait. The current is fast. Where are the whirlpools? There are whirlpools! Whirlpools! We’re going to pass the same place as that boat. I can’t find the big whirlpools… Maybe it’s easier to find them from the upper floors. There is an observation room on the Onaruto Bridge. From there, it seems like you can find the whirlpools even more. We’ve entered the place with the fastest current. There’s no rocking at all. The boat doesn’t even move. Whirlpools! You can see farther from the upper floors. It may be easier to find the whirlpools… Rough seas. But it seems to keep moving forward. We’ve found a place to see the whirlpools… The ship we can see now is the Nippon Maru. We’ve returned to Fukura Port. What’s that? Let’s go and have a look after disembarking. This person must have been making the announcements on board. This is the building we saw from the ship earlier. It looks like a foot bath. Uzu no Yu. A whirlpool! It’s the first time I’ve seen a foot bath like this (^^). What a great idea! There are also regular foot baths around. This is a natural hot spring. It feels great (^^). Let’s take a quick look at the roadside station. This place is large. You can use it while waiting for the cruise. There are many whirlpool-related things. Now, let’s head to lunch. I left my GOPRO in the car. It stopped working because of the heat… Our next destination is “Uzu no Oka Onaruto Bridge Memorial Hall”. It’s about an 11-minute drive. There used to be a shuttle bus from here. Uzu no Oka Onaruto Bridge Memorial Hall. I’m looking forward to the restaurant here, which is said to have a spectacular view (^^). Let’s go! There are other fun facilities here besides the restaurant. The restaurant is on the second floor. Onions! This is “Shiodama New Onion”. It grows in soil that is rich in sea minerals. It is said to be characterized by its sweetness and softness. It is produced in the Shioya district of Minami Awaji City. Onions everywhere. Onion information center (^^). So we went to the restaurant. Octopus! There was a whole row of delicious looking dishes. As expected, it was full. There was an aquarium. Let’s eat that (^^). Wow. We have to wait, so let’s go. Wow. It’s a huge onion (^^). A wig! Apparently they have one for dogs too. The giant “onion” object. It weighs about 200 kilograms. And the view from here was amazing. The Onaruto Bridge is a little far away. You can see 210 degrees from here. Let’s go and see the other side too. This is Uzu-no-Oka Sky Terrace. There was something like a hammock. There is an observation deck at the top. Let’s go there later. There are lots of onions (^^). It’s about time to head to the restaurant. Uzu- no-Oka Restaurant with a great view. It looks like it’ll be tough to get a seat by the window (><). The window seats were full… You need luck to get a seat by the window. As for the menu. There were a variety of drinks available. The number of menu items is too huge. I have posted a link in the description. If you are interested, please visit. Seared island octopus rice (130 grams) 2,420 yen. There is also a 170 gram dish for 3,520 yen. It is presented as if it is coming out of an octopus pot (^^). Tosa soy sauce, ponzu, plum sauce, seaweed. Rice. Comes with kinpira burdock. There is island lemon. There was an onion in the octopus pot. If you can sit around here, you can see a great view. I wonder how big the octopus is. The legs alone seem to be about 20 cm long. Cut it with scissors into bite-sized pieces. Octopus is caught almost throughout Awaji Island using small bottom trawls and octopus pots. In particular, the common octopus caught in the Akashi Strait is famous nationwide as Akashi octopus. It looks very delicious from the looks of it (^^). Delicious! . It is very soft. You can really taste the octopus’s flavor. This seaweed was also delicious. It doesn’t have the distinctive seaweed smell, and it has a nice texture. Awaji Island is known for its onions, but it’s fresh and crunchy. It has a sweet taste. From here, we cut it into small pieces. We’re going to make ochazuke. What we’re pouring now is not tea. It’s a special soup stock. And seaweed. It’s like an octopus bowl (^^). The octopus is just so delicious (^^). It’s soft but chewy, and the more you chew it, the more the flavor spreads. The soup stock is light, and the main ingredient is the octopus’s flavor. It’s like “eating the local bounty as it is.” The ochazuke’s simple flavor is what makes it so appealing. Next, let’s go to the rooftop observation deck. We were given a pamphlet, but it looks interesting, so let’s go there later. A rainbow! From here, you can see the Onaruto Bridge. There’s also a rainbow, which is fantastic (^^). From here, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view. You can see Fukura Port from here. The first floor looked fun too, so let’s go and check it out. That’s it! An onion piano! There was a street piano. And there was a corner to learn about whirlpools. This is a slide. As I’m old, I decided not to slide down (><). It’s a slider that lets you experience the difference in sea level between the Pacific Ocean side and the Seto Inland Sea side. This is the “Whirling Circle”. You can experience the size of the whirlpool. This circle reproduces the size of a whirlpool with a diameter of about 7m. That’s it! I can see myself wearing an onion wig (^^). Onion rain! You can tour this area for free. Behind this is a paid area. You can see a rare hydraulic model that creates whirlpools just like in real life. A photogenic spot! There is neon art of Awaji Island here. There are Awaji Island’s famous places, culture, and ingredients. And tastings! The rich taste of the onions is great. Here you can find new onions from Awaji Island, which are in season. Whitebait caught in the nearby sea and tsukudani (dried wakame seaweed) are also on sale. There are over 300 products from Awaji Island. Mr. Hotei! This was a highly recommended tourist spot (^^). Next, we headed to Uzushio Terrace Roadside Station. My GOPRO was back (^^). We arrived. Parking is also free here. The sea is around here. Onion hut! The music is nice (^^). This is “Naruto Misaki Parking Lot Uzumachi Terrace”. Uzushio Roadside Station is temporarily open due to renovation work. Here you can buy the “Awaji Island Onion Beef Burger” and “Awaji Island Onion Gratin Burger”, which won first and second place in the National Local Burger Grand Prix. Wow. The Great Naruto Bridge! You can see it much closer than before. Of course, you can’t see the whirlpools ^_^;. Let’s go inside the shop. The atmosphere around here is very laid back (^^). They have onions from contracted farmers, and souvenirs such as dressings and curries made with Awaji Island onions. There are also products related to Awaji Island milk. This is Baumkuchen. Let’s go outside and visit “Awaji Island Onion Kitchen”. I think they also have a cafe menu with sweets and other items. Although it’s on the menu. They also have drinks and desserts. Onion soft serve! I wonder what it tastes like. Awaji Island Yo! Yo! Yo! Round Soft Serve 500 yen. This is a sweet that can only be found at the Uzumachi Terrace store. It ‘s in an onion hut-like place. Sweet and sour! It’s rich because it uses milk from Awaji Island. The aftertaste is clean and refreshing (^^). You can feel the relaxed atmosphere of Awaji Island. Sweet time is soothing (^^). I thought it was all soft serve ice cream. But the bottom was yogurt. It’s about time to head to the hotel to check in. I’m staying at the Grand Mercure Awaji Island Resort & Spa tonight. It’s all-inclusive so I’m looking forward to it (^^). Arrived. It’s huge! The hotel is large. There are a total of 326 rooms. There is a great view point from the hotel where you can see the Onaruto Bridge, so let’s go there. There’s a pool! This area is full of a resort feel (^^). It’s a little hill. I think it’s here. Onaruto Bridge! Let’s go to the lounge. It’s nice that you can drink beer (^^). Head to your room. The room we stayed in this time was designed with a Mediterranean resort concept. We were on the top floor. And we had an ocean view. Wow. Ocean view. It feels like a resort (^^). And you can see the Onaruto Bridge! I made the right choice by staying at this hotel. You can even see the whirlpools. It’s almost time for dinner. It’s so spacious! All -you-can-eat Awaji beef (^^). We got a lot of stuff! The dinner buffet here was really good (^^). It’s all- inclusive, so you can drink as much beer as you want! Super Dry! It’s really good! Awaji Island Burger. It was super authentic and really delicious (^^). Awaji beef feast. The second time, we got a huge serving. The dessert was also of high quality. It was a very satisfying dinner buffet (^^). We’re back in our room. I’m going to the large public bath now. Amazake! There was non-alcoholic amazake. Well, I’m off. It was a nice bath (^^). It’s about time for a nightcap in the lounge, so we head there. There’s no beer… Instead of beer, there are many kinds of alcohol. I feel like there are more snacks. Pickled sake. I go back to my room. I’m going to sleep with this. Day 2. Good morning. I’m going to breakfast now. Whitebait! There was also raw whitebait. I caught a lot of things. It’s a lot of food for the morning (^^). There are orthodox menus. There are also menus using ingredients that are typical of Awaji. It was a very satisfying breakfast (^^). I return to my room and prepare to check out. This is the last time I’ll see this view. I’m going to see the dolphins now. The location is “Awaji Janohi Outdoor Resort”. It’s about a 15-minute drive from here. We’ve arrived. There are horseback riding as well. We’re heading towards the Dolphin Farm. There’s also a campsite. There are also sea rafts and sea kayaks, which look like fun (^^). Wow. What a peaceful sea. First, I go to the reception. There are three types of courses at the Dolphin Farm. This time I took the observation course. The observation course is 550 yen. The interaction course is 5,500 yen including lessons. The swim course is 7,700 yen. Wetsuit rental is free. I checked in. What you can see now is the Dolphin Farm. It’s my first time seeing dolphins up close, so I’m looking forward to it. I can hear the dolphins’ cries. Dolphins (^^). Over there, the dolphins are training. On the other side is the fishing park (fishing pond). They came close (^^). The observation course can only be viewed from the pier. The cries. It’s so soothing (^^). This was a spot that even an old man like me could really enjoy (^^). I went back to the car. There were also some people riding horses. Next, I moved to the center of Awaji Island. This is the end of today’s video. The next Awaji Island sightseeing VLOG will be. Milking experience. A shrine with one of the three largest torii gates in Japan. Awaji Island burger at a very popular cafe. Koala. Horse riding experience. Stunning views. Crystal clear beaches. A little introduction to the hotel where we stayed. Thank you for watching this far. See you in the next video!
