[Music] tossaka is one of Japan’s most visited cities attracting over 14 million international tourists every year it’s a city full of glitz glamour history and of course incredible food nickname Tenano Daidooro or the nation’s kitchen osaka truly is a paradise for food lovers and there’s no better place to wrap up our Osaka series than right here in Doton Bori the city’s ultimate street food paradise but it’s not just about food nearby you’ll find Shinshai Bashi shopping streets the trendy vibes of America Mura Namba Yasaka Shrine with it giant lion head and Kummon Ichiba Market home to some of the freshest seafood and wu in town in this video we are diving into some of Bor’s most popular eats to see if they really live up to the hype let’s go our [Music] first stop is Creodu one of Tottenbury’s popular spots for two of Osaka’s most famous street foods takoyaki and okono miyaki creoru is well known for serving these dishes freshly made right at the storefront allowing you to watch the chef skillfully flip the takoyaki balls and grill the okonomiyaki pancakes heat heat so you can choose like which is on the second floor that’s why we are going for the stops [Music] [Music] okay [Music] [Music] all right [Music] okay so we got this lemon sour drink i think it’s 458 [Music] [Music] okay so this is the original takoyaki [Music] [Music] fried skewer platter okonomyaki often called Japanese savory pancake is made with a batter of flour eggs shredded cabbage and various fillings like pork seafood or cheese it’s then grilled and topped with okonomiyaki sauce Japanese mayo seaweed flakes and bonito flakes that dance from the heat this dish perfectly represents Osaka comfort food culture rich flavorful and incredibly satisfying [Music] [Applause] [Music] hey what’s happening to you like [Music] for a long taring day are you tired are you full you like this place yes why cool things for you you like this place better [Music] [Music] that hotel is pretty cool looks somewhat like the Osaka Castle hotel Royal something hotel Royal Classic yeah that’s quite cool i like the exterior heat heat heat heat heat heat heat heat got I don’t know [Music] yeah heat heat heat next up we headed to Kinri Ramen one of Doon Bor’s long-standing and easily recognizable ramen shops you can’t miss it just look for the huge green dragon perched above the entrance kinrew has been serving simple classic tonkotu ramen for decades the broth is rich creamy and packed with umami made from simmered pork bones and served with tender slices of charu green onions and pickled veggies what makes it unique is a self-service topping bar where you can customize your bowl just the way you like it it’s the perfect casual spot for a quick comforting bowl of ramen especially after walking around on a chilly night so the concept uh of this ramen place is you order through the machine and they’ll prepare for you and there are some toppings over there where you need to uh put it on top of your own bowl so yeah it’s self-service the toppings it’s not so crowded today it’s a Sunday all right finally got our table okay can I put this here yes clean water yeah all right so let’s try this ramen with chasu so we add some chives uh kimchi and garlic [Music] oh sure something hot finally it’s okay it’s worth it nice thick broth so they only have one type with or without only oh okay the other one spider oh no hello [Applause] [Music] i don’t know heat heat look at that drunk so early it’s 9:00 p.m now you can see very crowded there’s so many people here’s a quick backstory about Doon Bori for over 400 years this area has been Osaka’s entertainment and food district it all began in the early 1600s when a local merchant named Yasoi Doon started construction on the canal that now runs through the heart of the city over time Doon Buri grew into a lively hot spot filled with theaters restaurants and night life today it’s best known for its neon lights giant sign box like the iconic Glyco Running Man and of course endless street food go don’t worry has two very different faces depending on when you visit during the day it’s a bit calmer you can stroll around easily snap some great photos without the heavy crowds and take your time exploring the shops and psych alleys it’s also a good time to visit if you want to avoid long cues at some of the more popular food stores but once the sun goes down do Buri truly comes alive the neon lights flicker on the giant signboards glow and the entire canal area turns into a sea of colors and energy the atmosphere is electric street performers packed restaurants and the iconic Geico man shining brightly over the canal if you’re coming for the classic Gotenburi experience the one you see in all of the photos and travel videos nighttime is definitely when the magic happens but if you prefer a more relaxed vibe and want to film with fewer people around visiting during the day has its perks too looking for breakfast to start our day a lot of people today as usual not sure what to eat yet but we’ll definitely look for it something to eat uh we tried the noodles here at the ramen he was really good this one we had it a couple of nights ago you already [Music] know heat heat heat heat i did it i did it i did it our next stop is Kukuru Bikuri Takoyaki one of the popular takoyaki spots along Botonburi the name Bikuri means surprise in Japanese and the surprise here is in the generous size of the takoyaki balls and a large chunk of octopus inside each one unlike some other stalls that use smaller bits of octopus Bikuri is known for using big tender pieces giving you a nice bite of seafood in every ball the outside is crispy while the inside stays soft gooey and piping hot while Wendy was in queue for Bikuri Takoyaki another line nearby caught my attention it was for Lord Sto’s Bakery known for their famous Portuguese egg tarts Lord Sto originally started in Macau but now has fans all over Asia the tarts are freshly baked with a flaky buttery crust and creamy custard filling slightly caramelized on top absolutely perfect for a quick snack while waiting i couldn’t resist so I ended up queuing myself to grab a few uh original one okay uh Sakura one sakura one yes take care or take away uh take away okay 2 hours okay caring time okay all right understand [Music] so best consume within 2 hours [Music] so I got I got one original and one Sakur yep and one Sakura have caramel as well chocolate white chocolate okay so yeah this is it i’m going to let try later see how it tastes like all right we’re going to try this uh takoyaki uh I guess it’s good judging by the queue so yeah the I don’t think they’re sitting inside so we probably have to uh buy and dying outside with the rest of us in this very very cold temperature it’s called cafe dining i don’t know kukuru yeah Kukuru buri takoyaki so yep that’s the one [Music] okay check this out so this is the Is this the most famous takoyaki on the street yeah half an hour que try first nice it’s mushy inside very flavorful big chunk of octopus yeah I can taste ginger the sauce mayo yeah I like it very good okay I’m going to try the original first uh in front of Lord Sto’s uh eggtak or Portuguese T wow very creamy very nice very sweet this is the Sakura uh t slightly damaged oh why the whole mouth is proof sakura very nice strawberry Sakura yes [Music] [Music] [Music] woo hello [Music] [Music] come on [Music] [Music] oh my god our next stop is Osaka Osho which literally means the king of gyoza you definitely can’t miss this place with it giant gyoza sign hanging right above the entrance osaka Osho has been serving its famous pan fried dumplings since 1969 the gyoza here is crispy on the outside juicy on the inside and packed with a flavorful feeling of pork cabbage garlic and chives it’s simple affordable and perfect for a quick stop while exploring Lotto Buri we got a green onion secret sauce huh this one it green onion mayo ga [Music] i don’t know what table are they [Music] this is what gyoza which is the whole [Music] [Music] [Music] The one is vinegar or like vinegar and soy sauce chili chili oils [Music] is only about 15 [Music] for six this is 15 this is 18 lots and lots of spring [Music] that was a nice meal bye-bye you love So this is what Osaka is all about people come here to Osaka to see this glyco man the icon of Osaka I would say [Music] [Music] okay what are we queuing up for pow and sumai pow and sumai okay okay so Wendy is queuing up for P and Sumi let me show you the queue [Music] this is at uh 5514 a lot of people must be damn good I guess [Music] so this restaurant is at this uh intersection and for our final stop in this dot bori food adventure 551 this place is famous for its freshly steamed pork buns or paman with soft fluffy dough and juicy flavorful pork filling inside they also serve shomai dumplings which are equally popular for their rich taste and tender texture 551 Horai has become a mustry spot for both locals and tourists and you often see long lines especially in the evening it’s the perfect way to wrap up our food tour with something warm hearty and satisfying right now this one okay okay okay so besides P and Sumai they have all this meal as well it’s open from 11 to 10 okay so we are back in our homeay and this is the pow from 551 this is the bhutaman pow which is a pork bun and over here we have the sumai the shrimp somi uh this is the smaller version there’s another big uh variation if you’re into that also from 551 horai okay let’s try okay so uh they gave mustard as the dipping sauce i’m going to try it with the mustard it’s a very very spicy sauce just one dep okay maybe two one more oh I told you one small here i can feel the mustard kicking in try one more without mustard so damn good so mine more frozen this is the pow onion it’s like slightly bigger than the average Malaysian chasu pow see the frame yes what’s this onion inside is it onion pork i taste pepper the feeling is nice but the skin a bit dense the It’s a bit chewy m we’re on national oh let’s go happy [Music] [Music] What better way to end our time in Osaka we had a final outing in Doon Bori so how do I define my time in Osaka it’s very tiring very crowded very cold as well uh but I I kind enjoying the food i enjoyed the food a lot uh better than expected uh the place is clean generally the public uh washrooms are all clean the place itself are mostly well kept but I wish they have more benches for people to rest and take and maybe proper seating as well for dining i kind of I I kind of dislike the idea of having to spend and eat i mean I understand the place is small but I guess if they could make a public uh dining area so we can just grab whatever street food we want and just sit down and eat other than that I think much to complain about Sanka it’s a very vibrant uh fast pace and yeah a lovely city so yeah I cannot wait to see what Tokyo has in store for us and yeah just spend our final few hours here enjoying more street food and people watching of course we can’t end our time in Osaka and especially here in Doton Buri without paying homage to the icon itself the Glyo man this giant neon sign has been lighting up Doton Buri since 1935 originally as an advertisement for Glyico the company behind the famous Pocky Snacks the Running Man symbolizes energy health and victory tying back to Glyico’s original caramel candy that claimed to give you enough energy to run 300 m over the years it’s become one of Osaka’s most famous landmarks for many visitors snapping a photo here is almost a right of passage as if you haven’t really been to Osaka unless you stood in front of the glycom man [Music] this is probably one of the most popular and famous spot in Osaka itself and this is the reason why it’s so popular the glyico command of Osaka [Music] you know that you don’t have to tell people you are in Osaka all you need to do is show this sign board over there with that sign board over there people definitely know you are here in Osaka Japan this is how famous that thing is let’s get a closer look we never [Music] relationship it doesn’t make sense [Music] all right let’s say goodbye from Osaka and we’ll be heading to our next destination which is Tokyo we’ll be taking the Shinkansen train also known as the bullet train there and yeah it’s going to be a fun one i cannot wait to experience that in Japan after experiencing the bullet train in China see you in Tokyo thank you [Music] [Applause] [Music] yeah yeah [Music]
