Last days in Japan!

Hello everyone! It’s morning. I’m at the train station like you can see. And today is the day we’re going to our final destination. Hello everyone, welcome back for this last video from my trip in Japan. If you haven’t already, I invite you to go watch all of my other Japan vlogs. We will finish this serie of videos in Kagoshima and more precisely on Sakurajima Island, which is home to the most active volcano in Japan. Embark on this last Japan adventure with me, let’s the video begin, enjoy! It’s me. I came to this restaurant to eat soba noodles, but.. I ended up taking tempura. Which I didn’t try yet, so we’re going to try it. It’s a vegetable. I think that’s a pepper. That’s good. That’s really… That’s not spicy at all. We have different kind of vegetables. I think that’s eggplant. And there is shrimp of course. We have.. ..stuff that I don’t know what they are. I’m really happy I finally tried tempura. Anyway, I’m going to finish my food and take you back after. So the place I am right now is a garden but also a house. And it was built in the 17th century. It’s called Sengen-en, according to a place in China that resemble this place a lot. And the garden was built according to the fengshui principles. Chinese fengshui principles. And here. And see behind the trees? This is a volcano. This is Sakurajima. This is where we’re going tomorrow. I just found the weirdest thing ever.. I mean it’s… Well, let me show you. So. Let me zoom, in for you a little bit. See there is a rock here. Not sure you can see but on this rock there is something written. It was written in the 19th century, like in 1814 And a total of 3900 people worked on that for 3 months. To carve this 3 characters in the cliff. It literrally say… “really big rock”. They say that carving into rocks is a chinese custom. So it’s unusual to see it in Japanese gardens.. But at least carve something good, not “really big rock”. So see this little garden behind me? It was build by the head of the family To host poetry composition parties. So each poet were sitting here. And then they would put a cup of sake in the stream. And they have to finish their poems before the cup of sake passes them. Let’s visit the main house! If it’s still open. Although the original house was built in 1658, most of the structure we see today dates back to 1880. The rooms have been carefully preserved to reflect their appearance from that time. The residence of the feudal lord is spacious, with a maze of corridors leading to various rooms lined with traditional tatami mats in a really Japanese style. These are contrasted by Western-style reception rooms that reflects the period when Japan began reopening to the world. I finished visiting the garden right in time. It is 4.51pm, it closes in 9 minutes. See when I have a schedule and I need to stop at some point, I know how to just.. manage my time. I just arrived in my room. It gets a bit cold at night. But I mean I’m just wearing a t-shirt underneath that so yeah.. The room is traditionnal japanese style. Even the beds! On the ground. There is other people in the room, but right now I’m the only one here. This is all for today, see you tomorrow. The pretty volcano right in front of my eyes is actually a stratovolcano. Which means it’s a volcano with several peaks. This one has three. And there is only one of them that is… I was going to say ‘actively active’.. Yeah, that is active, there is only one of them. Just arrived to the island. And now we’re going to go grab the bus, to go to the scenic point. I did arrive at the scenic point. After a bus ride. I took the bus cause.. At first I wanted to hike but if I hike everywhere on this island I’ll not have time to do everything I want to do. So the bus is a bettter.. solution. If Mount Aso is the largest most active volcano in Japan, Sakurajima is the most active one. And the largest in term of volcanic energy. Which makes it really dangerous. So I’m in this really tiny restaurant. I’m the only client here. And from the outside it kinda looks closed. So I wasn’t sure but I saw people coming out from here. So I came and.. it’s a guy. It’s a little..grandpa. He’s alone here and he’s gonna cook for me. I kinda hope he’s going to cook fast cause it’s 12.38pm and I have a bus to catch at 1.30 to go on the other side of the island. And this is the only bus. There is no other bus after that, so I really have to get it. Food is here. And it looks quite good. Let’s do this. It looks big. It was really fast. This is good. This is always in the least expected places… Look at that! Least expected places that you find the best food. If you come to Sakurajima, one day, I really highly recommmend this restaurant. The little grandpa is so sweet. He just offered me coffee. For free. I ate everything! I still have the soup but… He’s the sweetest. I’m so happy I came here. I love him. Meal.. done! So this is what it looks like from the outside. This is why I was confused. I didn’t know if it was open or not. Okay anyway. Let’s go to the bus station. Sakurajima used to be an island. But then in 1914 there was a huge, huge volcanic eruption. It was the biggest in Japan of the 20th century. And during this eruption… It started with a lot of earthquakes so a lot of people evacuated. But of course a lot of people still lost their lives. It started withe a huge explosion and then there was a lava flow that came down. And that made Sakurajima not an island anymore but a peninsula. Now it’s attached to the main land thanks to this lava flow. And this Torii gate that is half under the ground is because of all of the ashes that came down because of this eruption. So this is the amount of ashes that came down in only one day. So you can imagine. Lava flows are pretty rare in Japan because the eruptions tend to be more explosive. And this lava flow that made the island a peninsula lasted for months. Thats why it filled the little gap between the island and the main land. That you can now drive one. The ashes of the volcanic eruption accumulated up to 2 meters in only one day. This Torii door used to be 3 meters high. After the end… I mean after the main eruption… People started to dig in order to see the gate again but then they decided to not do it so it could be reminder for the future generations of what happened. And that’s why you can see it like that right now. I’m pretty sure you cannot hear it on camera but… There is a noise. It’s really faint. It’sa really faint faint noise. But there is a noise coming from the volcano. It’s like.. you know airplanes sometime when you hear them when they are really, really far. It kinda look.. It’s kind of that sound. After the beautiful sunset we’ll go on the lava road. There is a lot of big, black, lava rocks. It’s going to be awesome. All of those right here are old lava rocks. This is pretty awesome. And the color of the sky right now, there is like this light orange and some clouds on top of it. And like..the blue! It’s so pretty! Oh! Did I tell you? I don’t think I did! When I was in Miyazaki, so last night, there was an earthquake during the night. And I was sleeping and it woke me up so it was moving quite a lot. It’s my first earthquake so.. .. I don’t know but for me it was moving quite a lot. The next day in the morning I checked again and it was written that was an earthquake in Miyazaki like 4.4-4.3 on the Shindo Scale. Which is the scale japanese people use So it’s… ..not excessive but not nothing. It’s in the middle. Hey you pretty! What do you want? I don’t have anything for you. I’m sorry! You have those really black, dark volcanic rocks. Some of them are a little mossy like that. And then you have the water and the amazing sky color. This is such a treat. Hi! I’m going to go back and catch one of the ferries. And then I need to go back to the hotel. Because as you know, tomorrow is the big day, I have to go back to Busan. And start studying again. Bye bye guys, thank you for watching this video and please subscribe and share and give lots of likes and.. Write what you think about this video, it will help so much. Thanks a lot and see you in the next one! I’m in a taxi because the bus that I was supposed to take never came. I waited and waited and every time the time passed and the bus never came. And there was this huge queue of people waiting. And I could not wait anymore so yeah I had to take a taxi. I really hope I don’t miss the boat. It would be so, so annoying. Hello everyone, so as you can see I made it on the boat! I’m on it! The coast of Korea. Almost there. Back in Busan, bebe!

After Korea, I really thought about what my next destination should be. But there was only one answer possible…! How could I not go there when I was this close? Japan here I go!
Please look forward to all the next adventures and don’t forget to check out my other vlogs! 😊
