Current time There are so many crows in Sapporo… and they’re huge… Today, I’m heading to Biei by myself. I woke up at 5 a.m., and I’m on my way to Sapporo Station now. I need to catch the 6:52 train. Gotta go! Usually people visit Biei & Furano with a tour, right? But I caught the solo travel romantic bug (lol) So stubbornly, even though everyone says it’s a bad idea, I’m walking it. I’m trying to travel Biei on foot. Honestly (very) worried… The schedule is super tight. If one thing goes wrong, the whole plan collapses. (I cannot let that happen) Let’s do this! Fighting!! Nakachan~? Hai~ Nanigasuki~? (It’s Monday morning, so it’s super busy) But not for me—no work today (^ㅇ^)~ [6:52am, Ohotsuku Line, Platform 10] With my emergency snacks for energy and hunger… Let’s get ittttt The view out the window is art~ Time flew by But… Don’t sit on the right side of the train T_T Arrived at Asahikawa Station right on time 16 minutes to transfer Platform 1! That’s the train to Biei That’s the one I need to catch The transfer I was so worried about? Done in 2 minutes (^ ^) There was originally a train that leaves about 20 mins later But that would’ve given me only 4 minutes to transfer… That made me really nervous So I just took an earlier one. Anyway, I think 4-minute transfers… might be doable. As long as there’s no delay… Still, since nothing’s 100% guaranteed, I feel better leaving early. This train is tiny Just two little cars heading to Biei But there were a lot of people on board Luckily I got a seat — if I was any later, I wouldn’t have! Departed exactly on time, as expected ~ I just love train travel… Wow… the colors of nature are insane The train window is the frame, and the view outside is the painting Just show your pass after getting off like this And bam — snowy mountains right in front of me First things first Let’s go rent a bike Hellooo~ Rent bicycle~? Hai~ ★ Definitely rent an electric bike!!! You pay afterward Cash only (It was like half Japanese, half English) but I got it lol I’m planning to do the Patchwork Road course It takes anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, depending on pace The grandpa was so kind explaining everything in detail I listened really hard… but couldn’t remember it all ^ ^ (Anyway) okay It’s my first time riding an electric bike ; ; There’s a switch to control the electric power — I kept it at 100% lol Okay, thank you! Let’s head out~ It’s basically the same as a regular bike! But with the motor, it’s way easier Oh, here we go (Turn left in 500 meters) At this railroad… What am I supposed to do? (Already forgot the map directions lol) You really need to keep checking the map and Google Maps as you go You’ll need to cross big roads too And there are some unpaved downhill paths — ride safe! This road’s for cars — gotta be careful Electric bikes are (huff) so much less tiring (huff) especially uphill Without it (huff) I seriously would’ve died lol Wow It’s so beautiful Snowy mountains… in June?! Made it to the first destination in 15 minutes It’s gorgeous Ahhh… totally drunk on the romantic vibes This is the tree from that Nissan commercial — named after the characters Ken & Mary No one else was here so I had it all to myself lol (With bikes) stay on the left side of the road Isn’t this just incredibly beautiful? Feels like Switzerland, seriously Okay now… is this the right way? Gotta keep checking the map often Huh? Isn’t that the tree? If you look closely, it’s three trees! It’s called the “Parents and Child” tree. But it takes over 2 hours to get there, so I’m admiring it from afar T.T Riding downhill feels amaaazing >ㅁ< That tree’s on the “Seven Stars” cigarette box ; (And across from the tree) seems like that’s the photo spot o_o Ahhh… this is unreal… Hmm... something feels off? I thought there was supposed to be a birch tree road around here? (It’s just empty~) (Curious) (Let’s ask) Excuse me, do you know these trees...? "This Closed" (Nope, it’s gone~) No way... Looked it up and apparently they were cut down in January T_T Sad, but... open view is kind of nice too ~ Scenes of cycling through the area A big tour bus left, so I quickly went back People I rode the train with this morning are biking too ~.~ Looks like they’re heading to the “Parent & Child Tree” Oh yeah, no people around now! A privilege only possible when you travel solo...! Go pedestrians~ You gotta time it right when the tour buses are gone Time to head out quickly... Now I’m gonna head back to return the bike When I came here earlier, I had my back to the snowy mountains But now I’m facing them So the scenery is even better Wow, this is seriously beautiful Looks like a Windows wallpaper I’m supposed to return the bike quickly but I just had to stop T_T Nice to meet someone in the same situation(?) I really wish I had more time ㅠㅠ (This is not Switzerland) A place where you can feel all four seasons Biei... biking... please take notes Turns out... I really love nature... (No scenes I want to cut out) I’m definitely coming back... next time I’m staying overnight! Back again 1 hour 30 minutes — paid 900 yen I’ve just returned the bike And now I’m heading to lunch There’s a famous place in Biei called Junpei (famous for shrimp rice bowl) But it’s closed today I heard there’s a place that serves kaisendon So I’m gonna try going there Wow biking was exhausting My legs are literally shaking Wait… does this place look closed...? Why “CLOSE”...? Even if it says “CLOSE,” try opening the door Since I’m alone, I got seated at the counter I ordered the fanciest chirashi sushi I had my eye on Inside is quiet, only the sound of baseball commentary Behold, the chirashi sushi! Ta-daaa~ (It’s gone now lol) Looks absolutely stunning... Wait, how do I eat this...? Apparently, you’re supposed to eat it with the vinegared sushi rice underneath But I didn’t know that at the time ^ ^ So I ate the sashimi and rice separately~ But if it tastes good, who cares~ Thankfully, I eventually figured it out like a food genius The uni was absolutely insane... Everything was super fresh The sashimi was chewy and just heavenly The salmon roe... Oh my... I apologize... Be careful when eating salmon roe... Haven’t tried Junpei, but if you don’t like fried food, I highly recommend Masachan Sushi! Clean plate club ^_^ After 11:20am, lots of Korean travelers started coming in So I think you have to go early when it opens That was so good Now I’m... heading to the Blue Pond by bus Every time I turn my head, the scenery is like a painting I think this is where I catch the bus From Biei Station → Blue Pond I'm taking bus #39 at 11:54 I saw reviews saying you can use a touchless card... But you can’t. Not sure why. Just grab a ticket when you board Bus was almost full when we left Bus heading straight toward the snowy mountains... Moved up front just to get this shot It takes about 20 minutes to the Blue Pond and costs 800 yen I gathered all my coins and handed them a whole pile Clink... clank... Couldn’t find the right amount in the end and just got off ^.ㅠ There’s another bus in about an hour That’s the return bus So I’ll enjoy the pond for about 40–50 minutes Then head back to the stop The pond is just 3 minutes from where you get off the bus Already eyeing the Blue Pond ice cream Such a mysterious color peeking through the trees Whoa... Wow, it’s beautiful How does it look like that...? It’s literally a milky blue color They say it’s because of the aluminum content (I’m lost lol) It’s lined on both sides so you can take photos all along There are plenty of photo spots The snowy mountains in the background make it even prettier Didn’t know it at the time… but that smoke is from a volcano... Filmed a video while no one was around Tried the ice cream (600 yen) Gotta hurry before it melts—quick! Ice cream made just for that one perfect shot It literally tastes like grape soda popsicle flavor! Basically tastes like artificial coloring lol But there’s not much else to do, so you end up buying one anyway... Once all the tour groups leave, it’s photo time It got cloudy, which was a bit of a bummer... But I still got a good look at this beautiful lake I dropped my ice cream... And of course it had to happen while eating the choco cone... T_T Time to hop on the bus again Heading back to Biei Station It’s right across from the stop where I got off earlier! Why is the bus stop so pretty though? Tried a different card this time but still failed T_T But the person behind me tapped their card just fine...? What’s wrong with mine? I just wanna know why...ㅠ There were lots of people going back— maybe they were coming from Shirahige Falls...? I didn’t go 'cause the timing didn’t work out T_T Back at Biei Station now And the weather got super gloomy Should I still go to Farm Tomita...? It’s raining... What do I do (ㅠㅠ) I don’t even have an umbrella... No time to think, so let’s just go even if it’s a fail—GO! The Furano train is non-reserved, so just show your rail pass Biei Station (14:19) → Nakafurano Station (15:07), takes 25 mins Arrived at Nakafurano Station! It’s a super tiny countryside station lol Tried to ask for directions to Farm Tomita But no one was at the info desk ; ; No taxis, no people around here What do I do now...? Do I have to walk...? Oh? Are those people walking too...? Guess I’ll walk as well I’ll just trust my strong legs and go for it Wait—they’re turning here There’s seriously no one around in this town ; ; Apparently these hills are usually full of lavender Like, all lavender fields normally But during the lavender season (July…?) Right now there’s absolutely nothing Literally nothing If you come expecting lavender, you’ll be disappointed in the off-season... Still, I heard there are other flowers at Farm Tomita, so I’m going anyway Forward, forward, forward! But I got there faster than I thought! Hahaha... Hahaha... Hahaha... Wait, what’s that purple thing over there? Something purple over there Looks like... kind of lavender-ish Let’s go check it out Got closer—turns out it's not lavender, just purple flowers Seems like they planted a decent variety But it still looks kinda empty… T_T This flower is kinda scary-looking...? This is what Farm Tomita looks like in the off-season (June)... Respect for at least planting purple flowers for aesthetics Still managed to snap some pics in a corner And there’s a fresh green charm in its own way Also, barely anyone around — that’s a win! If only the skies were clearer, it would've been even better... Now trying the lavender ice cream Lavender cone ice cream – 350 yen This color’s not it ; ; Run over to the purple flowers Other folks were already there so it wasn’t embarrassing Yessss this is it~ Furano’s ice cream marketing is on point And the taste is... Lavender soap lol Melts ridiculously fast ; ; But honestly, it’s still pretty tasty Now it’s around 4pm So barely anyone is here The tour groups are all gone — it’s my world now (?) I’m loving it~ (Sky was gloomy so I just went with it) Everything is purple except actual lavender lol ...Something’s falling... It’s raining... Perfect excuse to try the famous Yubari melon (590 yen) Bought one Yubari melon slice — Please stop raining So sweet and tasty One, two, three, four, five pieces About 1,100 won per piece (+ 1,100 won) At this rate... gone in a flash When will the rain stop... Looks like it’s easing up a bit So I’m heading out on foot for now Time to go back to Sapporo (The train is pulling in) Whoa, it looks like the Hogwarts Express Perks of traveling on foot Ahhh... the romance is real Even the bus is purple — so cool Saw every shade of purple but not a single actual lavender ^ ^... ...It’s raining again... Let me tell you about this guy... It’s a Daiso umbrella mat, used more as an umbrella than a mat Yep, that’s my Daiso umbrella mat lol Didn’t pack an umbrella But I brought a picnic mat... lol If you visit during lavender season (late June–July) There’s actually a station closer to Farm Tomita And it opens for the season Not a lot of trains, but still! You can just use that one Also, from Sapporo without any transfers you can take a direct train here called the Lavender Express If you're visiting in the off-season you’ll have to struggle like I did(?) But during peak season, going solo might not be a bad idea One perk of coming during off-season— It’s not too crowded And it’s romantic, right? There’s just something about the vibe This is Nakafurano Station~ Time to go, bye bye, goodbye~ Now heading back to Sapporo (3 hours ^ ^...) Nakafurano (17:08) → Asahikawa (18:19) Taking in the last views Transferred at Asahikawa Station Asahikawa (18:25) → Sapporo (20:02) (Wouldn’t recommend copying) It’s a really tough schedule ^ ^... Finally made it back to Sapporo, completely dark outside ^.ㅠ Heading straight to dinner... Ramen Alley! Lots of people... must be that spot I was starving but had to wait 40 minutes T_T Came to eat the corn butter miso ramen~ Couldn’t resist the beer T_T... Forgot to film—took a sip already ; ; Looks delicious... Hurry and bring it out please~ Spicy miso flavor ~ Pork belly (?) butter corn ramen Eat up * ^ ^ * So sweet~ Corn butter in ramen?! I’m dying to try it Worried it’d be greasy, but the broth was rich and tasty The noodles were nice and chewy—just how I like it ~~ And that flame-grilled pork belly... say no more~ With the texture from the corn kernels and a cold Sapporo Classic beer... That’s a knockout combo A perfect dinner gift to myself after a long day ^ ^ Perf✔ect✔ And finally, let’s go visit Mr. Nikka... This is the 2nd floor of the mall across from the Nikka sign You get a full view of Susukino and the Nikka sign You can even take mirror selfies with Mr. Nikka lol It’s my last night in Sapporo T_T So sad, seriously ㅠㅠ... Sapporo Day 4 Checked out of my hotel at 10 Left my luggage there and went out for lunch So today... I’m heading to by bus Planning to check this place out Actually, I changed my plan I’m walking there instead 24 minutes...! Eh, 24 mins isn’t too bad ^ ^ ; Got a glimpse of the Sapporo Tower in the distance ~ Exploring the streets—only possible for walkers~ Even crossing big bridges like this Feels like Cheongju’s Musimcheon... Do I look bloated...? (Blaming it on the clothes lol) Someday I want to backpack like that Must be super tiring though...? Still, it looks so romantic... Almost got tricked—this is Tonton... Not Tonton, it’s Toriton Arrived at the real destination! Whoa, there's already a wait... It’s only 10:25am and there's a line Feeling shy... “Kangkokujin?” ?@#% (Me...?) I was the only Korean—everyone else was Japanese If you have a sun umbrella and mat, you can wait anywhere Made it in at 11am, open-run success! If I came any later, the wait would've been longer Got seated at the counter It’s private and perfect for solo diners It’s a conveyor belt system But the sushi doesn’t go around You order through a tablet—available in Korean too! Placing my order like this for now One last drink for the road Get hot water right at your seat Make your own green tea—and it’s actually super good Fresh sushi is delivered right to you Let’s dig in Starting with uni—yum Sushi just keeps coming This is insane... (Touched) Next up—fatty tuna It melts in your mouth... Kept ordering little by little to avoid breaks The taste is incredible, but the price is even more unbelievable You can even adjust the amount of rice when ordering This place knows how to do tuna, salmon, and eel... An out-of-body experience Now I totally understand why the wait is so long The chu-hai was also super refreshing and tasty And finally, dessert—potato mochi ...Was just okay (way too sweet) You’d *never* get these cuts at this price in Korea... (4,741 yen / card accepted) It was delicious A really satisfying meal. Now… I'm going to walk to Nakajima Park Can’t just walk past a mirror, lol It’s snowing—wait, is it? Getting showered in pollen... Heading to my final stop... Arrived at lush green Nakajima Park Just wanted to relax for the final part of the trip There’s a huge lake in the middle—you can even ride boats. It’s a peaceful place There it is, my spot There were benches, but spreading out a mat on the grass is the real vibe Got this Jersey milk pudding and green tea flavored Pocky So glad I chose a picnic for the last day Adding a little break into a tiring trip makes the memories so much better ...Or so I thought Time to head back to the hotel But I’m gonna take this tram first 6:18 AM (Like this) Lift-off Blue Pond → Biei Station [The numbered ticket tells you your fare] Oh? A flower... Sailing away on a boat of romance~ Such a peaceful park, perfect for zoning out... Until *this guy* showed up... Outnumbered and intimidated ; ; (Protecting my snacks...) All kinds of birds suddenly gathered... I'm not running away... I’m leaving because of my flight, okay ㅇㅇ ㅠ ㅠ... How to ride: board from the back and pay when you get off (Apple Pay works) It was super quiet... and narrow... But hey, that’s Japanese vibe for you... Tap Apple Pay (Pasmo) when getting off Now I’ll grab my luggage... and head to the airport Walked all the way back to Sapporo Station again Came to say my final goodbye... Can’t stop eating even at the very end, lol... Wrapped up with shopping too—trip complete ^_^ Check the bus schedule here :)
