We Lived With a Local Japanese Family for 3 Days 🇯🇵 – A Homestay We’ll Never Forget
japanese people is often seen as quiet reserved even distant but what if that is only half of the story in this video we are invited to stay with a local family and for three days they welcomed us like we’d known each other for years from mountains pass to home-cooked meals this trip wasn’t about sightseeing it was about connection and by the end of it we didn’t want to leave good evenings everybody we have decided to spend the last three days here in Tojoashi uh with a local family of Japanese people that Katrina and Nia knew from before they are the nicest host that we could have possibly asked for and since our favorite food in here so far apart from ramen is the okonomiyaki we’ve been trying it everywhere today we’re going to finally cook it homemade is there a screen here i am going to walk through this at some Yi what what kind of okonomiyaki are we cooking osaka or Hokkaido osaka [Laughter] since we’ve been trying okonomiyaki everywhere this feels like the perfect ending of the trip [Music] any any food yes ah yeah yeah yeah anything you have mix it how long do you cook [Music] it looks amazing yum like how did you get to know Yumi we we met through him first time [Music] okay it’s a group for people from Japan or from Toyahashi japanese to meet foreigners oh that’s cool so that they can practice English they can practice English we can practice Japanese and you take us around and show us different things mhm you have a beautiful house Yumi thank you really you want a microphone all yours there you go you can you can you can talk to your fans now yeah yeah but I’m glad to because you you girls come to my house and it’s been a while yeah yeah I met we met first time but I don’t feel Yeah first time he’s easy to get to know [Laughter] thank you so much for hosting us don’t mention it don’t mention it don’t mention it but you got to do this when you say it don’t mention it don’t mention it don’t mention it have you been to H not to Kyoto never you have right kaji yeah I’ve been to Kyoto kyoto is beautiful very beautiful i think I think Yi you should do the one you should you should good nice very good very Are you okay how I managed to go wow top one top one best yumi best bestami yaki we had in Japan yumi you’re so fast i think that’s one of the coolest things i should open a restaurant yeah oh 100% yeah what would be the what would be the name of the restaurant okoyumiaki i want to openyaki restaurant in in Norway i’m your number one [Music] as we woke up in the morning Yumi had prepared some delicious breakfast for us and her and had planned an undisclosed surprise trip for us that’s the face of somebody who is really hungry and he’s waiting thank you thank you let’s talk in English in English okay yes talk Japanese one year you studied here for 6 months and now it’s like the first time that you’re coming back to it one year one year one year it’s my first time back to TNT toyashi University of Technology Gikai everybody’s buying me one one piece cookies this is the best thing ever [Music] time for our lovely tour that they decided to take us where are we i have no clue so fun to let actually the local people to guide us to see what are their favorite places and it’s very likely places that we would not have found ourselves if we would be looking for it right Yumi yay as we spend time with them we were starting to love their quirkiness and their approach to life hosting foreigners barely speaking their language is not an easy task and their devotion to make us have a wonderful time is something we will forever be grateful for it’s magical to experience those moments in which a smile is more meaningful than warts themselves and their hospitality generally felt like a warm hug this is very very nice so cozy yumi and Kesky are the sweetest people we are currently in the Shistoka region and I think the goal for today was to see what suspension bridge of dreams oh my gosh we were thinking on going to Kyote so nice that we took a turn and we took somewhere more in our territory which is nature and more peace and sakura blossoms have ended everywhere else in Japan or at least down by the ocean but not here here still got these ones this is so nice look at all the leaves on the floor already because the season is finishing you come out there yeah yo beautiful [Applause] this is so gorgeous i can’t see a better way to finish the trip in Japan than doing it in nature with friends this has been one of the top countries that I have ever visited and we are already thinking of when is the next time to come you ready Yumi to go run [Music] yumi is a superstar superstar yumi [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] this place must be incredible to come with a kayak oh it’s so cozy oh really for the next part of the day we are heading to a sauna in this area as you know in particular onsents are gender divided and since we wanted to spend some time together what we’re doing is getting to one of the saunas on this area to then probably cool down in a pool not sure how allowed we are to take the camera in but [Music] wow look at that view this is incredible oh my gosh so we have our little sauna here with a little bit of an outdoor fire if you’re cold to get here and sit down and then you have a water pool here with cold frozen water oh my god this is amazing wow oh [Music] matcha nature [Music] let’s go Yumi yumi let’s go [Music] each me [Applause] [Music] will be remember one of the best days we ever had traveling time to finish the evening with some good ramen huh [Music] [Music] how many girls are have you eaten in one day one day [Music] 100 100 is it true [Music] oh it’s so good [Music] yes do not let him get away with it you can see him touching his [Music] Before leaving Toyohashi we were invited to join a beautiful Muslin celebration as we wanted to spend some quality time together we decided to be present and not to film much until the time our first firewall came oh we’re Norwegian man is going away oh I still get anxious when you put the camera on we’ll see each other again at some point well will Naruto run across borders guess taking us to enjoy our last part of the of the trip in Japan in the ocean so since they are very good surfers they’re going to take me outside to practice a little bit that I haven’t been on a board for 2 years 3 years probably sucks so much yeah you look good very good have fun first time surfing in a long while how was it don’t worry about things so much better [Music] to celebrate how amazing this beautiful uh couple has been to us I’ve prepared for them a beautiful uh Spanish three course meal it’s everything for the hometown maybe it’s for you to enjoy you’ve been so good to us you’ve been so good to us thank you so much thank you so much my pleasure good you like it i like it that’s why she likes me [Music] last day this I think is the first time in a long time that it feels wrong to go now like I’m really going to miss uh Japan but I think it’s at the same time it’s such a it’s a good thing to leave missing it so we don’t get too much of it so we get really excited to come back and do it you know yeah leave on a high instead of long while we’re sick in the country i know what you mean because for the first time I I’ve been excited for every new country we go to this is the first time I’m not excited i’m only sad to leave and I feel more for some reason even though we’ve been traveling con constantly for 4 months i feel like I’m leaving a holiday now i don’t feel like I’m I feel like I’m going home to Norway and start working again uh cuz it feels so bush you’re leaving before you’re ready yeah think is in Japan we got all the all the good things that we wanted from a country we got them here we got a lot of hiking uh hiking solo which is what we like the most to be able to go to the mountains and do whatever we want we had great food in general uh we were lucky cuz we had friends over the like these guys are like legit the nicest people the nicest people ever they are the most hospitalitable and kind they gave me so many clothes Northace clothes that they had spare for the mountain so we could do better hikes what I’m saying [Music] thank you so much for everything thank you you are the best man thank you so much thank you we will come back mhm first thing we see is you yes i bring you I bring you a lot of so much chocolate a lot of things maybe next three days i am excited to see you again [Music] bye-bye love you guys bye-bye [Music] i’m so sad me too [Music] well this is travel on his big baby getting to know amazing people and saying bye-bye that’s hard so hard i really really like them so much [Music] so nice and I just I love their mix i love their like Yumi is just the sweetest and is hysterical yeah he’s so he’s so goofy he’s goofy and fun so real yeah and it’s really funny that we don’t even know where we’re going living the comfort of a song is because of the unconscious feeling of moving forward towards what that was poetic yeah to the moon and back oh Yumi Kes we will miss you so much thank you so much for everything you’ve done for us you’re wonderful we love you it’s hard to put into words how much this experience meant to us the hospitality wasn’t just kind the kind that stays with you a long time after you say bye-bye two people full of warmth and intention quietly trying to become better versions of themselves by sharing love curiosity and care and they welcome us into that journey without hesitation as we move forward into the next chapter leaving Japan behind for now we carry a piece of it with us and I promise to come back to keep learning from its culture its breathtaking nature and the people who give it heart thank you so much for watching see you in the next one Japan
We lived with a local Japanese family for 3 days — and it became one of the most unforgettable parts of our Japan trip.
In Toyohashi, Japan, we were welcomed into the home of two kind and generous people who gave us everything: delicious homemade meals, surfing by the beach, a trip to the mountains, and most importantly — genuine connection.
We cooked together, laughed a lot, and ended the experience with tears (yes, actual tears). This wasn’t just a homestay — it was the heart of what travel should be about.
📍 What’s in this video:
– Staying with locals in Toyohashi
– A traditional Japanese home experience
– Mountain spa, beach surfing & local food
– Cooking Spanish food for our Japanese hosts
– An emotional farewell we’ll never forget

So many things to share. What a pleasure to spend time with friends. In the heart for ever. Congratulations
Did us dirty by leaving out thomas the tank engine, and for not commiting to the naruto run from the start
Great video, man ❤
Wish we got more days together, but I'm so glad we got those days
The three days we spent with you were the most valuable time of our lives. The memories you gave us are so wonderful and we will never forget them. For a while after that, Yumi was unable to even throw away your cigarette butts, and she always had tears in her eyes. She remembers Catherine's kind smile, her words "urara" and her cute voice and says "I want to see you soon." Thank you so much!
We'll meet again soon!
