May 2025 visitting Chiran area and Kirishima jingu in Kagoshima, Japan

Kagoshima is located in the southern part of Japan, known for its two peninsulas and many small islands stretching toward Okinawa. I stayed for three nights, but quickly realized that wasn’t enough—at least five nights are needed to truly explore and enjoy this amazing area.

Getting around Kagoshima can be done by tram, train, bus, or ferry, but without a car, it can sometimes be a bit challenging to explore everything.

I stayed in an area called Tenmonkan, which is about a 20-minute walk or a 10-minute tram ride from the central station. Tenmonkan is a very convenient area with great options for shopping, dining, and sightseeing. I highly recommend staying in this neighborhood if you’re planning to visit Kagoshima!
