Is Universal Studios Japan Actually Vegan-Friendly?
there’s a dinosaur behind me isn’t there so I’m going to eat this whole thing that’s what I’m going to do eat this whole thing there i think I just aged myself 5 years we’re at Universal Japan today and we’re trying all their plantbased meals and my stomach is ready hey explorers my name is Chris AKTDR Explorer if you’re new to this channel I help you plan your trip to places like Universal Studios Japan and other theme parks here in this wonderful country so if you’re not subscribed make sure you do so you don’t miss out on all our wonderful content so today we are here at Universal Studio Japan like I said and in the last few years they have released or started to serve I should say more plant-based meals so they have graciously invited me today to show you all the different options for plant-based food menu items at the various restaurants throughout the park so I have an empty stomach and I am ready to start eating i’m so excited our first stop is here at Finnegan’s Bar and Grill so they have a plant-based menu item that we are going to try and they have other food items as well there’s there’s quite an extensive menu here and you can just line up so it has a 15-minute wait currently so let’s head inside this smells delicious so this is a falafel with tomato salsa you can see the falafil here and there’s a little bean puree smells really lovely and there’s some vegetables here and got some lemon don’t get in my eye knowing my luck it’s it would just go right into my eye ooh lemon lemon lemon dip it into the sauce the tomato sauce or tomato salsa is a little spicy there’s some spice in that that is nice oh the falafel’s nice and soft on the inside nice and warm very tasty there’s a lot of herbs in it adding the lemon on top is brilliant let’s get some of this bean puree this is This is delicious like I’m not a plant-based person typically but I would come just to get this this is a really nice light meal I would say i’m I’m not going to feel heavy after this this is really lovely and I love that there’s a little bit of spice inside the salsa i’m going to eat this whole thing that’s what I’m going to do eat this whole thing i just realized there’s little pickles cute little pickle we’re off to a great start honestly and you know I don’t give out full points easily i’m giving this a five seriously this is delicious even if you’re someone who isn’t strictly plant-based this is good this is really good i can’t wait to see what else we have in store for for today there is so much more plant-based Parkside Grill you can make a reservation when you’re in the park just scan it and make a reservation or you can just walk up and see if they have immediate availability this is really good so we’re going to head inside so here at the Parkside Grill we have this grilled salad and also comes with some fruit we also have some olive oil as well you get to drizzle all over the salad i do love olive oil i use olive oil in pretty much everything well not everything but you know a lot of stuff i do like how colorful this is a lot of green a lot of red i got some bread here and the bread is also plant-based as [Music] well so like I said this is more of a salad so don’t know how filling this is going to be it’s just a lot of There’s a lot of lettuce on here we We’ll be honest there’s a lot of lettuce in here but I do like that it’s an option here at the Sitown restaurant i do like how the vegetables are nice and grilled so you get that nice grilled flavor in your mouth which is really nice the onion’s really [Music] nice it also comes with this little fruit concoction first time we filmed this I called it soup that doesn’t really sound right it’s more of a fruit cocktail so there’s some oranges in here and we got some grapefruit and also blueberries that is very tart there’s also some mint in here as well nice and fresh ooh I do like the citrus that’s really lovely overall I’m going to give this a three the salad I wish there was maybe some more seasoning on it like I do like the olive oil that drizzles onto some stuff maybe some I don’t know some sort of seasoning I think would have really brought it all together really well but I do like the the grilled uh like everything being grilled on it i like that that smoky flavor that’s really lovely not overly filling so if you’re really hungry you probably will want something else in addition to this uh for me I don’t particularly find it all that filling i did really enjoy the fruit cocktail here though this is This is really nice yeah I a nice solid three you can also order the fruit cocktail by itself but when you do it has some extra fruit inside so we have the oranges we have the grapefruit the mint the blueberries also there’s strawberries and muskcat grapes inside as well look how colorful that is i love strawberries strawberries is one of my favorites can I fit all the fruits on my spoon i think Oh wait yep yep yep [Music] yep it’s definitely a lot better with the extra just the extra strawberries and the grapes in it this is really lovely a nice little snack i’m going to give this one a four this is a a four very lovely and I love the presentation too next up we’re heading into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter to try some more plant-based items and we’re heading here to the Three Broomsticks first up we have this Irish vegetable stew and this is a hearty meal we have some potatoes we have bread we have vegetables we have a salad with some dressing to put on top and we also got salt and pepper which I love and then we also got mustard and we got some ketchup too well you know what i’m going to put some salt and pepper in the soup just a little bit of salt not too much it smells quite hearty it’s warm too very warm the stew is nice and thick and we got some mushrooms in here i think there’s some potatoes some carrots some onion i’m assuming this is some sort of like tofu meat plant-based meat of some sort it’s quite nice and this salt and pepper was just right this is a really nice stew nice and hardy i probably have it more in the winter time not when it’s hot it’s It warms you up and we have a nice fresh salad put the put the dressing all over it yum cucumbers lettuce tomato nice and fresh the dressing is nice and tangy it gives it a nice fresh fresh taste with already the fresh vegetables and everything inside of here this is really nice we also have more vegetables which I’m going to put more pepper on again half of it went everywhere else into the cameraman ketchup for the potatoes [Music] the bread is nice and soft and warm yum you know what we’re going to do we’re going to dip this just going to dip it right into the stew it’s nice and soft it’s very fresh i really like this this is really [Music] nice and remember this is all plant-based including the bread everything here you’re good to go i’m going to give this a solid four the stew is delicious and with the salt and pepper to put on it gives it a nice some nice seasoning which you can put on your vegetables and everything this is a very hearty and full meal yeah definitely need to do this one for dessert we are having the plant-based butterbeer but I want to know the difference between the regular butterbeer and the plant-based butterbeer so we have two here i’m going to have the original butterbeer first just so I can refresh my memory [Music] right i do enjoy butterbeer the top is nice and creamy now here is the plant-based one it looks almost identical or pretty much identical to the regular one except there’s a little seal here that says plant-based so you know smells the same they taste a little different yeah but it’s still good if you would have just gave me this and didn’t tell me I wouldn’t have been able I wouldn’t have be able to tell the difference i feel the original is a little more sweeter than this one they’re very close to identical it’s really hard to tell the difference between these two but I would say yeah this one is a little more sweeter than [Music] this i’m going to go back and forth until I finish them there i think I just aged myself 5 years i would get this again i think I I think I actually prefer this more it’s like I’ I’ve said it like three times now little less sweet which is kind of my preference i’m going to give this I’m going to give it a three and a half just a three and a half yeah [Music] next up we’re here in Super Nintendo World where we’re heading to Kenobio’s Cafe because they have a plant-based item that we’re going to try so we’re inside Kenopio’s Cafe here and we have Yoshi’s favorite fruit and veggie salad it smells incredibly fresh so we have a mixture of stuff and I love that it’s a little mountain it’s almost like Mount Bean Pole that’s outside i think that’s really cute so we have some peas we have onions we have mushrooms and then we have strawberries and melon and pineapple and kiwi and then it’s drizzled with a white dressing this actually smells really good i’m really excited to try this let’s go with the fruits first so the dressing is kind of like a French dressing and don’t worry it’s plant-based as well so everything here is all plant-based and we got a a heap of heap of lettuce i love the atmosphere in here you can hear all the toads yelling and making food and everything they prepared this for me i love how fresh this is and I love it’s a mixture of fruit and vegetables i wouldn’t say this is completely filling i wish it maybe it was a little bit bigger i think that think I would have really loved that that would have been like a full meal i’m going to give this a three and a half like I said very fresh the French dressinges dressing on it is nice i love the fruits the fruits are my favorite i can sit here and just eat fruit all day got to keep hydrated [Music] we just finished at Kenopia’s Cafe in Super Nintendo World next we’re heading to Jurassic Park where we’re going to the Lost World restaurant where they have a plant-based menu there’s a lot of items and we actually ate this last year so I was told nothing has changed it’s still fantastic so I’m going to show you and just so you know it’s stuff that I recorded last year there’s a lot of menu items to try so the first one we’re going to have is the fried wonton and vegetable soup it smells really good i’m going to put some lime in here complete with the seeds make sure you dip it in that’s really nice there’s also some cilantro that you can put in there but I’m not going to do that cuz I’m not a cilantro person i like that they don’t put it in it’s on the side so I can choose to put it in if I want to so inside here you can see there’s okra and other vegetables [Music] inside m it’s nice and salty it’s warm and you know what it It feels nice and healthy it’s a nice change from burgers and fries and everything i’m I’m loving this already the vegetables are nice and crispy and fresh and I love the broth it’s nice and silky smooth and salty thumbs up next we’re having the spring roll it’s vegetable spring rolls and it comes with some ketchup and also some more extra vegetables to put with your vegetable spring rolls i love a good spring roll so come in here we’re going to open this up together you hear the crunch ooh got some corn in there and some other vegetables ooh that smells great i’m excited dip it in the [Music] ketchup i like the ketchup it’s more like a It’s kind of like a salsa almost like a salsa ketchup that’s really nice and it’s not spicy at all not sure how to dip this how you supposed to do this got some more vegetables to kind of dip in here i really like it with this as well it’s a It’s a radish and it has like the nice radish sour taste to it kind of tastes like you know that the that vinegar feel that’s what I’m getting from this this is really nice too and it’s not too heavy it’s nice and light but you get the nice crunchiness of a spring roll i want more of these now for the main course the vegetable faux plate this looks incredibly filling and fresh it just it looks fresh the presentation is topnotch ooh so we have the vegetables from the spring rolls and then we have soy chicken and we also have some beans and we also got another spring roll remember I said I wanted more spring rolls there’s another spring roll and then of course we have the faux noodle soup and again the cilantro’s on the side so if you don’t want to put it in there you don’t have to which I will not be doing again but we are going to put some lime put some lime on i almost squirt it all over the camera oh I love putting lime in this and it’s so good it’s just again nice and fresh i know I’m saying that a lot but I am serious it’s nice and fresh with all of that there’s a dinosaur behind me isn’t [Music] there i think that’s an omnivore so we’re safe although he might come and try and eat all this food it’s mine so we’re having the soy chicken and on top is also peanuts so just keep that in mind that is really good as the consistency of chicken and it tastes like chicken and with the peanuts on top it just kind of brings it all together that is really nice i really like that that is good m and we’re going to try the beans next i do love beans beans are delicious looks like there’s also chickpeas in here too delicious also deep fry anything and I’m going to love it i’m pretty simple to please i like that i’m going to have another spring roll dip it in the soup [Music] first spring roll delicious i could probably have a full meal of just the spring rolls themselves now we’re going to have the soup now I think for the best part oh I don’t think I remember the last time I had foam i’m just breaking the noodles apart a little bit i’m told this is the same broth as the vegetable soup that we had earlier so I know I’m going to like this already oh look at the noodles m oh that is so good i love the onion in it it gives it a nice bite and the noodles are nice and flavorful too it’s just This is just a really nice meal there’s also bean sprouts in here and cucumber i love a nice fresh cucumber it’s again it’s just a nice change of pace from burgers and fries it’s nice to have different options in the park when you’re here and I know a lot of you have been asking about plant-based stuff well this is the place to be this is so good okay we need to have dessert i don’t want to ruin my dessert i’m going to put this down for now we’re going to have We’re going to have dessert next now for the best part dessert this is the amber and mango tofu pudding and look at the amber i mean I don’t think I need to explain this if you’ve seen Jurassic Park you know what this is it looks exactly like the amber from the film inside is a flower instead of a mosquito you know we got to keep it plant-based right the presentation on this is phenomenal i love I love a good theme and this is simple yet effective and if you’re a fan of Jurassic Park come on how could you not and you know me I’m a huge fan of mango anything with mango I’m going to eat it up eat it up i don’t think I’ve ever had tofu pudding before fresh and creamy the mango beautiful always love a mango and I think there’s a mango jelly on the bottom as well that’s so good this is so good do I just eat the whole thing eat the whole thing this is really nice too a nice change of pace from eating mousse eating tofu pudding instead i think this might be one of my favorite desserts and that that’s high praise m so out of everything I think if you want a hearty meal definitely get the soup cuz it comes with the spring rolls and everything or if you’re looking for a little bit of a snack you know just get the spring rolls or five or six and definitely get the pudding so good so we’re gonna finish this all up here i’m gonna eat this before the dinosaurs come back and eat all my food and then we’re gonna continue [Music] on that amber and mango tofu pudding is probably one of my favorite things here and I’m not exaggerating i’ve had people say that I exaggerate no no when I love something you will know you will know i’m going to be thinking about that all the time i’m always thinking about it every time I’m here I have to get it so please please give it a try but our plant-based adventures continue next we’re heading to the Bellagerie because there’s another item the Bellagerie is a great place to come and it’s open first thing in the morning too so if you need to grab something quick this is the place to come this is in my opinion one of the best go-to breakfasts and it’s very healthy it’s very energetic it gives it gets you ready and fueled for the day we have a salad with mixed berries very fresh we got raspberries we got strawberries strawberries we got blueberries there’s carrot there’s tomatoes there’s blackberries and it also comes with a carrot vinegarette and what I love about this is they keep all the fresh food well the vegetables and the fruit separate from the lettuce so it doesn’t get soggy so it’s always nice and crisp it’s such a little thing but that makes a big difference cuz you know we’ve all gone to different places where the salad has been sitting there for a while and it’s soggy this never soggy i’ve had this many times and it’s never been soggy love it and pop it open you drizzle all the dressing on the top it looks delicious and then you just lift off the top and pour it all over the salad and it’s ready to eat strawberry is my favorite [Music] everything in here is so fresh the vinegarette the carrot vinegarette gives it that nice like tangy pungent flavor and it really brings it all together oh there’s even some mint in here this is delicious seriously great breakfast a great [Music] snack an easy five with this one i think this is great i’m going to have this every single time I come first thing in the morning it’s so great so we’re heading inside Studio Star’s restaurant so we’re not going to be having things that are labeled as plantbased but we’re having food that is labeled as alcohol and pork free and I’m looking forward to trying it inside the Studio Stars restaurant we are having two curries and I just want to reiterate that these two curries are labeled as pork free and alcohol free they are not labeled as plant-based so I just want to make that very clear for you wonderful explorers at home each of the curries do come with this gateau cha or chocolate cake this is not labeled as plant-based just so that is clear the first curry we’re having is this potato and herb curry and it’s incredibly fragrant so you have the rice and you have the curry this looks incredibly hearty let’s give this a try i wasn’t expecting it to have some spice there’s some spice in this the herb is nice i like the seasoning on it i just got a pocket full of flavor in my [Music] mouth this is really nice you know what i would probably pick this over like getting a burger or something this is This is really lovely i like the herbs in this i think it’s really lovely and I like that there’s a little bit of spice to it as well this is incredibly hearty so you can definitely have this as a full meal and I love that Universal is offering an alcohol and pork-free option that is really lovely i’m going to give this for me personally three and a half i’m going to give this a three and a half let’s try the other one the other curry I am trying is this nine fruits and veggie curry and there’s a lot of vegetables in here yeah looks like we got some tofu in here we have some beans we have some peas carrots can definitely smell the fruit too where’s the fruit maybe the fruit’s like in the I’m assuming in the sauce it smells like apples that’s nice okay let’s give this a try is that potato tofu i don’t know let’s just try m oh a roller coaster of taste flavor oh it’s a lot spicier than the other one i wasn’t expecting that it is spicy yeah it’s probably two levels more spicy than the other one the the urban potato I would say is like a spice level one this was like a spice level I’m going to say like a three it’s spicy but also sweet at the same time you can taste like the fruit inside the the curry sauce so you have a nice balance between sweet and spicy that’s really fun for the taste buds and the vegetables in here are nice and of course you got your your your white rice inside i’m going to give this one a four if I had to choose between the two I’m I would go with this one i think this one has a lot more flavor like a lot more going on in terms of the flavor this one’s really nice i like this you know what would have been perfect maybe more for this one than the the potato one on the potato one’s not really soupy you know like some curries there’s a lot of curry this one has a lot i would love to have like maybe naan bread or something to dip in it i think that would have been really lovely but no this one is I think I think I prefer this one over the two we’re going to try the little chocolate cake nice and fluffy it’s a chocolate cake it’s not It’s not going to pull any surprises unlike the curry the curry is very surprising this It’s very chocolatey it’s nice and what’s the word I’m looking for fluffy it’s nice and fluffy and moist there’s nothing worse than a dry cake this is nice and moist i really enjoy that Universal has made the effort to have so many different plant-based options here at the park cuz you know traditionally it’s been really tough to get plant-based meals especially here in Japan so I really do appreciate the effort that Universal does so there’s more options and for me personally like I’m not strictly plant-based but I like having that option cuz sometimes I don’t want a burger i don’t want you know I don’t want anything that has meat in it i want something you know maybe a little bit more lighter or just something different for a change so having all these different options I think is topnotch and again thank you so much for Universal for inviting us out so we can show you all the different food here that you can find that is plant-based and even some of it that is also alcohol and pork free they have their information up on their website it’s in the Universal Studios Japan app and remember if you’re planning a trip to park all right explorers i’ll see you in the next one bye

Nice to see the options, thanks Chris. It would have been great if they made a nice mushroom dish at Kinopios, like a pastry, or even a soup with bread.
yeeeees, thank you for this! it's so helpful!
My first time in Japan and am a big fan of the channel. I have visited the Disney parks over the last 3 days while keeping an eye out for you hoping for a photo op. Am heading to USJ in a couple days and am hoping to see you. Please keep us updated and tell us whatโs the best strategy to handle USJ and what are the best rides and the ones to skip, thank you so much for all your help in dealing with the Disney parks it made it a breeze. Keep doing an amazing job both you and your team. Thank you.๐ข๐
This is SO helpful thank you so much! Would love a version for TDR!
Thanks Chris for showing us all the plant-based foods. I think that the so-called "Vegan" foods here in Germany are so highly processed that they suck. The Japanese are better at it because they have more experience with plant foods for at least 1500 years.
OoOo the Veggie Irish Stew at Three Broomsticks would be my favourite meal ๐ฝ๏ธ
Thanks for doing this one!
I love the amber dessert! It should be offered in the other parks, too!
As someone who is very lactose intolerant (and lacteze dosn't really work for me) its good to see some options that are safe for me to eat without having to check for dairy! ๐
As a non-carnivore, I appreciate this video a lot.
I'm vegan so thank you so much for making this video with all these delicious veggie options! ๐๐
Thank you for doing this. I have a few dietary restrictions so always on the look out for a decent vegetarian place.
Why is it that in America one canโt find anything near as healthy compared to Japan ? ๐ฏ๐ต
Itโs nothing but Burgers , pizza and over sweet everything at exorbitant prices .
Also when you do order like a Burger ๐- in Japan itโs put together with care – here itโs thrown together haphazardly.
Omg yay!!!!!! ๐๐
That grilled salad was such a missed opportunity! They could have brushed on a marinade before grilling, that would elevate it, and maybe add a protein (it's just begging for grilled tofu! maybe eggplant as well)
The difference is the foam. There is dairy in regular butterbeer foam
awesome video
Yay a plant-based vid for us, thank you Chris! ๐ So many overpriced salads thoughโฆ ๐ฎโ๐จAs a plant-based regular at USJ, I think the Lost World and Three Broomsticks meals are the best because they have good protein in there along with veggies and the prices feel reasonable for that. Thatโs what plant-based eaters need! A pretty salad with a little bread just isnโt going to fuel anyone for long on a busy USJ day. ๐ข
Thank you for this!!
Thank you for posting vegan options!
Hello Chris, I always enjoy watching your Disney videos, I hope you have a wonderful vacation. ๐ How are you doing? ๐
i love this! i'm not vegan or vegetarian but i don't eat pork which unfortunately is a lot of the foods there so it's super nice to see the options that for sure do not have pork in them
i think for those salads to have been more filling, they should've added a protein like beans or some tofu or even some nuts would've made it a bit more filling
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!!!
Thank you so much for the Video๐ฅน๐ฅน
Kinnopi's should have had some mushroom dishes. Why do they always just have salads? What about some grilled vegetables. That would have been a good option at the steak house. I saw a blooming onion on the minue. That is Plant based right? I can't eat red meat so I look for vegetable options. Sometimes it's just french fries and bread.
