The Only Limited Express in Japan That Runs on Subway Lines!
all right good morning everyone I am here at Kitasenju Station which is the fifth busiest train station in Tokyo to eat a subway sandwich on a subway without breaking any rules This train I’m about to ride doesn’t run that often on the subway So there’s a good chance that you haven’t seen it before By the end of this video you’ll know what train this is how to ride it and some cool facts about this train because it’s actually pretty unique So the first thing I have to do is to get a Subway sandwich The subway opens at 10:00 a.m but the train comes at 10:30 So I’ll have to grab a sandwich real quick and then head down to the subway station If I miss this train this video is kind of over so I have to be careful So this is the food court area where the subway is at and I have to wait until 10:00 a.m till it opens So I’ll just wait outside Okay the food court just opened Nice people welcoming us All right here we are at Subway All right I got my Subway sandwich So I just have to go back to Sanenji station and head over to the subway The train I’ll be taking is on the Tokyo Metro Chioda line Okay All right So I’ll be taking a train at 10:33 called Mento Hakon and Enoshima 93 So this is the Odaku line limited express train that runs through the Chioda line all the way to Yoyogi Wayhara Station and then from there it’ll run through the Odaku line And these trains will split into two at a specific station and one will be heading to Hakon and the other one will be heading to Inoshima And it is here It’s the GSSE 60,000 I got a seat for So this is my express ticket I got car number nine 1D So it’s this I saw the reservation seat and it said there’s only like five people on this car and they’re like either in the middle part or the very end So I think I can no problem As for the seats there is this button you can press to recline your seat Yeah no one’s behind you But there are no plugs for you to charge your phone or electronics Also I checked to see if there’s Wi-Fi and it seems like there’s no Wi-Fi here Kind of unusual for Lun Express train And yeah most seats don’t have like a table in front of you like this It’s only the first row seats but all the seats have this small food tray It’s It’s pretty small compared to the ones from Bullet Trains So yeah that is your seat tour along the way So this train is called the Metoro Hakon and Meto Enoshima and it runs only during weekends This is actually the only limited express train in Japan that goes through subway lines So that’s why I’m counting this as a subway or more like a part-time subway You can buy the ticket for this train inside the Tokyo Metro platform or grab one from any Odok machine or counter or you can even get it online using the Odok reservation website One thing to watch out for is that Odaka trains are longer than Tokyo Metro platforms so not all doors will open at some stations You’ll see signs telling you which platform to go for your car Also you can get off at any metro station once you’re on The first place you’re allowed to get off is Seo Gaku Mai Another fun fact about this train is that it will skip some subway stations which is pretty rare We are passing by a subway station on the other side Please do not smoke in the street Restrooms are in cars too Oh we’re pass station on this side for the first time What station is this I think Chin Soda Sen Couldn’t really see it All right this is the first station this train stops at and it’s Ulti which is right next to Tokyo station This train station is known to be one of the more chaotic subway stations in Tokyo There’s like five lines stopping here but it’s like a maze [Music] [Music] I don’t know who needs to hear this but I I finished eating my Subway Now I’m going to enjoy the ride until I get off at Sagami Ono And this is the station where the Metro Hakon and Meto Enoshima will split So I’m going to go to the bathroom Welcome aboard the limited express It says the bathroom is in car There’s a vending machine over here Oh wow It’s quite spacious here Oh what is this It’s like a souvenir area Yeah Pictures Um romance car Uh so maybe they used to sell these kind of things like food bento or something Oh wow What a spacious bathroom area There’s the bathroom right here Wow what a very spacious bathroom where you can put your baby This is the regular toilet And if something happens to you you can press this button and there will be a staff that will be uh not happy to assist you Okay I’m going to pee now Bye There’s also another area where you can just wash your hand And there’s the urinal for men And this is a woman bathroom Okay let’s go back Okay we are here at Amote station and this is the last subway station this express train will stop at As you may know this is near the Shibuya area [Music] [Music] All right So the announcement said that the next train station is going to stop at is Souak This will be the first station you can actually get off at because you can’t get off the stations in the Chiota line We are no longer underground This train will stop at a specific station not to let people in but to do something else The train just stopped at Yoyogi Wayhara station but they’re not going to let any passengers board from here The only reason why they’re stopping is to switch the train drivers So from Kasenju to Yoyara the Tokyo Metro train staff is the one driving the train And from here the old train staff will be driving the train So they’re switching places right now [Music] Now we actually finally have a good [Music] view Oh god it’s so bright You don’t need to see my overexposed face We will soon arrive at 08 H14 The stop after will be All right we are here is a joy First station where people can actually get off at But it seems like no one is getting off from here Rather people are getting on It makes sense I think most people take this train to go all the way to Hakane or Inoshima [Music] We will soon Okay we’re going to be there in about a minute or so Thankfully there’s a trash can over here So the last thing we’re going to do in this video is to see the metoak and enoshima couple Now we got to go to the core 6 area Oh there’s a lot of people here This is probably where the name [Music] Oh it’s closing [Music] That is me leaving earlier and then me and Shima’s going to leave a couple minutes later [Music] All right So I saw I think this will be a good time for me to end the video If you want to go take this train I would highly recommend you take it from Kitasenju so you can you know stay on the subway line as long as possible So if you enjoy this video the algorithm thinks you’ll like this video over here So feel free to check that video out as well All right bye-bye I

Don’t read this caption:
I rode Japan’s only limited express train that runs on subway lines, and yeah… I brought a Subway sandwich just to make the dumb joke. This train runs through Tokyo Metro tracks, but it’s not your average subway train. It’s a legit limited express service that usually runs out to the Hakone area, but for a short stretch, it dives straight into the Tokyo subway.
If you’re into Japan trains, Tokyo rail systems, or just love a good train ride video, this one’s for you. You’ll see what it’s like to ride this rare train through underground subway tunnels and into the suburbs, all while snacking on a sandwich for the most unnecessary pun ever.
This line is part of the Odakyu Railway, and yes — it’s the Romancecar, which usually connects Shinjuku to Hakone-Yumoto. But for a few minutes, it runs directly on Chiyoda Line tracks, making it the only limited express train in Japan to do so.

I suppose it's better than eating a Jar on a JR line.
Now imagine eating a hamburger in a train in Hamburg and baloney sandwich in Bologna. 😂
This is, as far as I know, the only place in the world where an intercity train has through-running with a metro line. Which honestly makes the definition of the Chiyoda line a bit curious… is it even a metro line? Or is it a mainline railway that just happens to have a metro-like service pattern most of the time?
Subway in an subway lol
This was a fun video! I just did a 大回り乗車 through 千葉 yesterday, hope you'll do a video on those someday soon! I learned only at the end of my joirney to check the trainset on long trips (e.g. Sōbu local line from Narutō) for transverse seats near the ends, for sightseeing.
Also, it's interesting to me that this is the only Limited Express on the subway, especially when there are services like the F Liner that run as Limited Express for part of their line, even though not on the subway itself.
You could have eaten a サンド at 表参道😂😅😊🥪🥪🥪🥪
omg please ride the s-train next
7:21 I thought that guy on his phone is recording u 😂
I gotta say this is your weirdest video so far.
Yeah i watched all of it, what about it?
In Oslo, you can eat on the subway, trams, buses etc.
11:34 Mini-Foamer daww, 🐶
It's interesting how they change drivers and sort of time share the train between companies. It seems to be quite a regular thing in the metro systems here. Before I learnt this I assumed that the company which owns the train would keep their own driver and then pay the company who owns the line a fee to use it. By the way, eating a subway on a subway 😂 that's some good humour there Tanner! Great video!
Can you make a video about the 小田急70000形 next time?
i got this train from hakone yesteday! but i was lucky enough to get the special viewing car seat
now I crave subway 😭
Dude your not supposed to eat anything on the Tokyo Metro they don't allow it
Hello Tanner
Switching train drivers? Wow. Japan really is stuck in 1980!
The Romance car! Well, well.
The S-Train is a limited express by any reasonable definition, even if the company doesn't explicitly call it that.
Keihan runs through trains to the Osaka Metro and intend to extend that to their limited express trains shortly.
Thanks for adding the translation for the store opening announcement and the train announcements!
I hope the drivers leave little presents for each other when they change over
Such a silly idea xD
I need some subway combination lists, what do you guys usually add on what bread?
is subway any good in japan? in the US it's kind of always sucked, so i wonder these things
Damn it I read the caption
11:24 seeing 2/3 (including Tanner) recording train is wholesome ngl
Heck yeah Sagami-Ono station where I get off for work 🤩
I really wanna try the Romancecar one day either going towards Hakone or Kita-Senju but the price is just ‘hmm maybe next time’ inducing lol.
Great video as always 🎉
Always looking forward to your videos 😊 Gonna ride on the Akita Shinkansen E6 this weekend for the first time in my life btw 🥳
7:01 why does the urinal have a window?
