Developer Phoenix Game Productions have put a brand new narrative trailer for their first-person action game Tokyo Underground Killer. With this new trailer came news of the console release version for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Gematsu reports that the title is set for launch on consoles in Q3 2025 and that a demo is currently available, as a part of Steam Next Fest: June 2025 Edition
Tokyo Underground Killer is set in a neon-drenched, fever dream version of Tokyo, including Shinjuku, Akihabara, and Shibuya. Players will assume the role of Kobayashi, an assassin known as the “Shinjuku Vampire”. Your goal is to eliminate dangerous criminals, as a member of a powerful crime syndicate while confronting monstrous beings invading Tokyo known as “Flat-lliners” and ultimately survive your way out of a criminal lifestyle.
Unreal Engine did an interview with Director Daniel Hedjazi and he had this to say about his vision for the title “I had this really vivid image in my mind, of someone running frenetically through the streets of Tokyo, while slowly drowning in a blur of neon light and crushingly loud music, with no time to ever slow down.”
In Tokyo Underground Killer you’ll use your katana slash, stab and parry against powerful entities. Tokyo Underground Killer features 10 different blood skills to defeat enemies and suck their blood to replenish your health and skills. Players can explore Shinjuku between missions, decorate their room or participate in mini-games. The title features an ability tree to unlock Kobayashi’s blood skills enabling you to stun, capture, and manipulate enemies. Artwork from famed creator Han’s Steinbach is also featured. Composer Andrew Hulshult, of Dusk fame, is also featured in the title.
Phoenix Game Productions has sought to make Tokyo Underground Killer a visceral, fast-paced action title set in a surreal neon-drenched underworld. Whether this will land with players, remains to be seen. But we’ll know this later this year.
