IKEA Japan: Showroom & Food Tour Like No Other Country

how different is the IKEA experience in Japan
let me show you Let’s [Music] [Applause] go There are 10 full-size IKEA stores in Japan and
this particular one is in Osaka It’s about a 40-minute drive from the city center Don’t worry
if you don’t have a car There is a shuttle bus that connects the city’s transit system and
brings you right to the front door of IKEA If you’re a parent like me one of the first
things you’ll notice is a playground where you can drop off your kids and have them play
while you shop And if you’re always hungry like I am you’re going to check out the restaurant
first And by the way the restaurants here are beautifully decorated The ones back in Canada
they’re just really plain and kind of boring I was a bit surprised to see that the food options
at least in the refrigerated section here were very similar to back in Canada There were salads
and sandwiches and desserts Um I read online that Japan IKEA offer a little bit more variety and
unique food but maybe that’s in the the market which I’ll check out later on video But hey can’t
go wrong with meatballs and gravy right one early observation I had about the IKEA is that all
the staff were incredibly friendly They were helpful and patient and even though they didn’t
speak much English they were able to help me out in any way I needed The price for this meal
was about $1,300 yen which is roughly $12.50 Canadian Oh and by the way it’s probably a good
time to mention that they don’t say IKEA they pronounce it IA So with a full belly I was ready
to explore the store And like other IKEAs or IKEAs they’re designed to make you feel a little bit
directionally disoriented so that you can view all the different showrooms So I’d suggest just
following the arrows so you know which way to go One of the main differences I noticed was a
lot of the furniture here was designed for more urban homes especially apartments The furniture
is more modular and multiunctional with a lot of space-saving design incorporated into it Another
observation I had was a lot of the furniture was compatible with the tummy mats and a lot of
the lighting options were Soji inspired Also a lot of the items like beds and appliances
were modified to fit the standard Japanese dimensions Hey so I’ve only been to IKEA in Japan
and Canada and I’m curious to know what’s it like in your country is there anything in particular
that’s unique about IKEA where you’re from let’s start the conversation below I’ll go first What
I really liked about this IKEA was that they had a rest station right in between the uh showrooms
and the warehouse where you could sit down have a little drink a little rest and charge your
phone As I was furnishing my entire house I was also checking out some other stores in addition
to IKEA Some of the main competitors are Ntori and Muji Ntori is a Japanese retailer that has a
wide range of products and they’re more affordable And Muji is at a little bit higher price point
but offers very very nice design Um and they’re focused more on the minimalist style I did end
up using IKEA’s delivery service for some of the bigger items I bought and it was a great service I
paid a little bit more to get the guys to bring it up the stairs and into the room where it had to be
Um the thing is with the delivery you have to wait at least 10 days maybe even a little bit longer
to have it delivered So just keep that in mind if you are in a little bit of a time crunch So here
I am checking out I bought a few mattresses and thankfully they come rolled up inside the box
and I thought it was going to be a tight fit and it and it was It just barely fit inside of
the rental van that I had And of course before I left I had to check out the Swedish marketplace
and it had a lot of very familiar stuff in it A lot of goodies a lot of treats frozen foods They
had some baked goods as well Um you could also get your ice cream and your your hot dog Um so
you can eat it on your way out after a long day of shopping Okay that’s the video I hope you found
it interesting and insightful If you’re interested in some more Japanese content specifically
in Osaka follow along See you later [Music] [Music]

  1. I wonder if the "city shop" locations in Japan have a bit more of a Japanese tone to them?
