SHIZUOKA | Another Kind of Pink: Girls’ Trip to Izu’s Early Spring

Where Spring Arrives First — Izu Kawazu-zakura is an early-blooming cherry blossom found in Kawazu, Shizuoka. With soft pink petals blooming in February, it offers a gentle hint of spring before the season arrives. In Inatori, a century-old tradition fills the town with handmade decorations crafted to wish for girls’ happiness. Travelers in February and March can enjoy these colorful displays celebrating Girls’ Day on March 3rd. Along Japan’s longest 118-step staircase, traditional Hina dolls and colorful ornaments sway gently in the spring breeze, warmly welcoming all who visit. Founded by Kobo Daishi (Kukai), Shuzenji is one of the oldest Zen temples of Izu, once a place of exile for a shogun, where over 1,200 years of quiet history still linger. Loved by literary giants such as Masaoka Shiki and Natsume Soseki, Shuzenji Onsen continues to charm visitors with quiet streets and gentle steam. This scenic path runs through a tall bamboo forest along the Katsura River, right in the center of Shuzenji Onsen. The soft rustle of bamboo leaves fills the air, echoing the quiet beauty of Japan. The bamboo path is illuminated from sunset to 11 PM, creating a magical vibe and showing a different kind of beauty from the daytime. A winter-only light-up event. It features Shuzenji washi, straw crafts, and bamboo lanterns along the Bamboo Grove Path. Together, they create a magical and peaceful nighttime scene. A 321-meter volcanic hill formed by an eruption about 16,000 years ago. From the summit, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji, Izu Ōshima, and Sagami Bay. Inspired by the geological layers of Mt. Komuro, this café features earth-toned interiors and menu items themed around those layers. From the scenic observation deck, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Izu.

🌸Spring comes early in Izu — and it’s not just about the cherry blossoms.
From the vivid pink of Kawazu-zakura to the colorful charm of the Hina Doll Hanging Festival, from relaxing hot springs to dreamy illumination along a bamboo grove path — this girls’ trip is all about finding joy in the little things.

Finally, let’s sip a cup of coffee with a view at Cafe•321, while enjoying breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji, Izu Ōshima, and Sagami Bay.

If you’re dreaming of a getaway filled with warmth, beauty, and soft pink hues, Izu might just be the perfect place to welcome the season.
