You’ve Never Seen This Beach Town Near Fukuoka – Karatsu, Saga
kalatu is a city in Saga Prefecture with beautiful coastal scenery of Genkai Bay In this travel series I traveled to the edge of northern Kyushu from Karatu Saga to Narasaki This area has beautiful coastal scenery and unique history and culture because of its location closest to the continental Some area was once attacked by Mongolians and also became the only port foreign ship could reach in Japan during the closure for more than 200 years in Edo period I said to start the trip from Karatu and proceed to Nagasak city by rail and buses I hope it becomes hint for your deciding in Japan so you can do the same travel as me or better than me Most probably better than me Karat is actually in Saga Prefecture but it’s closer to Hukoka airport more than Saga airport There’s also choice of shinkans but this time airplane had a much cheaper deal So I took a flight right there arrival gate and there’s a town table of the luggage and here it’s just a regular town So very convenient very close to the city Really just a regular town of the Koka is starting from right outside the airport And this time I skipped Koka and I head to uh Saga Prefecture Karat There is a bus to international terminal and it’s only two station by subway to Koka city cent’s Hakata station In the morning hours actually there’s a direct train to Karatu Let me go to Lo I think they have like a karatu burger Something we don’t see in Tokyo It says please be careful when driving only in Kushu This is a first We take this subway to main Noama station and change twice to Kat So it’s a main Noama station There’s no D train and you get off this May I’m not sure which side people stand on the football Oh this is a train So looks like this is a train to colors See JNR So Japan National Railway train Wow And the J used to be a Japan National Railway This train has a restaurant [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Calino Matzab forest I arrive at the Kata [Music] station all the fashion station information center Welcome to Karat S Prefecture This is at the station and looks like this is a city center This a karat castle and the hotel I’m seen tonight is over here say it’s a famous lice terrace all in English so maybe it’s popular more among international travelers I have the karatu station it’s very quiet peaceful station So was interesting because I have no idea what kind of station or town is containing from the station and look like this K is very quiet A big statue here It seems this is a main street of Kat Oh very nice It’s like this is a boutique hotel of Karatu and a little architect continent here So there are lots of places to eat looks like and hotels and gallery The dinner is included for today’s hotel But let’s look for lunch This is also a very cute street And the restaurant I want to go Looks like people are waiting Looks like Japanese businessmen from Tokyo other parts waiting So maybe it’s good place So looks like you write name there and wait It’s a restaurant called Kameyama and kind of know the seafood I think we I have lots of seafood bowl in the street But let’s start from seafood Also right next door is a fish shop It seems this store offers a seafood bowl and almost all fish are from Karat Sport I ordered the most reasonable uh middle size seafood board 1,200 yen Now it arrived This is a,200 size In English it says regular size So I ate at that restaurant called Kameyama The seafood boy It was really good 1,200 and uh I can’t imagine getting that for in Tokyo But um the soup was very good [Music] So Karatu is famous for karatuyaki potter and this is lots of pottery area like Imari Arita Hami and this is Karatuyaki similar shops in the town This is a former karat bank Auto admission is free So this is like a museum maybe Wow So this is a home bank This was a counter here in winter They they have this karatu ki festival These all stumps of katu banko kin My name is Ko but it’s Kingo Tokyo station was designed by the same Kingo Tat So this is a Karatu bank It used to be the center of Komas of Kat Very nice air of May In this side I see Karat Castle over there The historic town usually have this non too much karat 7-Eleven So today I’m staying at the K seaside hotel resort hotel in Karat So so I’d like to walk there So head towards north by the beach This is a bridge that I can go to the beach side of the karatu karat castle Oh very nice It’s my first time to come to Katu and actually first time to Saga Prefecture I’ve been seeing the picture of the katu’s beautiful bay and even though it’s not a very popular destination as a sighting spot I wanted to come here always from the experience of the past trips and west side of the Japan islands has a really beautiful beaches and I didn’t regret I came here it’s a jaw nai bridge originally I was going to stay in Koka one night but the weather forecast was rainy next day I don’t want to see colors in the rainy days so I changed change the schedule and I made it one day earlier and I think I made a right choice The weather is going to be up and down towards Nagasi after this for Koka I’d rather have to come back hopefully within this year So it’s a little hazy but this is so beautiful That is a Tatashima island Looks like someone is living there Japan surrounded by rough seas and we haven’t really been embedded by other countries throughout our history But here in northern Kyushu which is geographically closer to the continent things were a little different In the 13th century the Mongol Empire launched two massive invasions Thousands of ships landed along this coast The local samurai and people at the time during the Kamakura period fought back with persistent greater style resistance And in the end a power storm destroyed much of the invading fleet shrine Very quite nice to eat to walk There’s a fish shop Oh a family m This is a miracle karat hotel It used to be a loyal hotel and recently all the loyal hotel group rebranded to Aqua Hotels Everything became Miracle brand And right in front of the Americ Seaside Hotel and this is where I’m staying tonight Hotel entrance is 135 m ahead Okay So this is a start of the property actually This is a seaside my bus stop and every 1 hour there’s a bus going to the city center of Karatu Okay Now in the pine forest there’s the entrance to Kat Seaside Hotel So it was about 30 minutes walk from Karatu station and dropping by different places It wasn’t that far but you can take the shadow bus from Higasharatu station There are two buildings east building and west building next to each other and originally it was that building and the new building opened here You can get one cake That’s a very common cake So let’s get it See this Kat seaside hotel is owned by the sweets company called Shat And when you check in you can get one free cake for each guest 117 Wow Wow Very nice hotel Big gloom and Oh wow Wow I’ve never seen a room like this And there’s a makeup room with nice dryer and poor ladies Bathroom Wa Really nice hotel So you can see the ocean and take the bus If you are with someone you can wave your hand as you take a bath Oh wow Let’s see the view Wow This is a beach of Kat Wow And this is a pine forest Wow Like already it’s one of the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in my life Wow I even thought to take this backpack off It’s I’m so impressed And something really really unfortunate happened is once a year they have to kind of sanitize the forest by the medicine with the medicine to the pines to avoid the pines get sick and that is tomorrow morning So I usually have the morning walk on my channel and I was going to walk toward there but do not go there after 5:00 a.m Number Toshima milk taste to go Let’s eat later B water and not tea This is a saga Steven So they have the beer and kind of sour drink and some ginger and coke These are complimentary Nice glasses cups Clean So this is a men’s spa area You change to the swimwear and you come out to this little area and go up to the rooftop So this is the elevator Have a tub bathroom and to put on the ground and have lots of lots of complimentary water Oh wow Oh so nice So beautiful So good beyond this edge It’s very hot actually Look at hot spring Wow Very hot like on water But this one is hot It’s completely hot like a bath sound This rooftop pool is hot water and open in the winter too So you can enjoy this even in mid- winter And in addition this K seaside hotel has a indoor pool and sauna too that visitors can use As long as you are staying in this east building visitors can use these facilities without any charge Very nice It’s much actually it’s really warm here too And something really great is this B water and this very thick green white turret is everywhere So that’s a then lot of sascular sauna So this one come the top interesting designed sit Now it’s time for the dinner buffet that was included in my travel plan to sushi So this is what I got Lots of tuna sashimi and tuna sushi and tempura and tuna bowl seafood bowl And the color to the special grad One brown [Music] beach So beautiful It’s May So and we are in the really west of Japan So the sunset time is very late It’s 7:15 today So we have like about 20 30 minutes more sun setting Kat Castle Wow God so beautiful So beautiful Wow The sun is about to set behind the Karat Castle Unfortunately tomorrow morning will be the good weather But uh looks like rain season starting soon So we got to enjoy the this sunny weather in Karatu It’s Karatu is very beautiful More than I expected and Saga Prefecture is the first time I visited but really amazing So it’s perfect for evening or sunset the morning jogging to this Nino Maz which I don’t do anyway This is a cake I got when I checked in yellow The helicopter [Music] came monitoring [Music] Lots of clouds but I see some sunshine I like to head to breakfast Now for this morning there’s a French toast Saba beef hamburg rice that they make for you choosing the ingredients And again the uh kai chaz with lots of buri squid bi yellow and squid Okay so now I’d like to check out and head to K city and see around a little bit of city and head to the Ku station to the next destination Looks like there’s a bus every 1 hour but I just missed it So I’d like to walk again Originally I was going to go to a town called Yoboko near Kat that is famous for the squid But I wasn’t sure how much I can have time there before I take the train So I decided to take this ferry going to the Takashima Island on the other side of the carats So it say Takashima taxi Looks like there’s a taxi here Let me ask actually who it’s really learning [Music] It’s taxi but uh he has to wait about 10 20 minutes for the next other passengers So probably it should be the same time as the ferry over there 10:00 So and that is much cheaper So I like to take that one I didn’t notice there’s a fed pier here yesterday This I was taking kind of thumbnail here for with the castle and right next to it there was a ferry [Music] pier I thought in Takashima So now this is like 10 minutes to Takashima Island The ferry person said I can take this 1045 and back to Karat left Kat In Karat city there are seven islands accessible by boat and one of them is Takashima It rides about 2 kilometers but 1.2 two miles off the coast of K city center Around 200 people live on the small island and it’s said almost all of them share the surname Noaki in Anard who once protected the island from pirates To get there you simply hand 220 yen in coins to the port operator and hop [Music] on Takashima says So let’s see the map first So we just arrived this port and there’s a shrine a little above the hill and looks like if you have time you can go to observatory nice peaceful port town and I see kat and the hotel I said seaside hotel right there So this place is very known for the uh good luck Everywhere says that this way Very quiet piece of town So this is a whole door shrine Pretty quiet So the show shrine 3 minutes So we have to go back to the ferry port soon But let’s see 10:22 The f is 10:45 So nice Oh I see the shrine there Oh looks like that is a showya shrine So this to say this cat hood stamp with the direction to this shrine Yeah it this actually enters to this direction Okay I can enter It says so we can follow this cat step I see cats [Music] [Music] [Music] I have to say it’s really spiritual feeling Lots of nature appreciation of nature So let’s go back to the port So if you have more time I think you can go up to the mountain of this island [Music] Come in So looks like that is a place to eat in this island It’s always kind of sad when you leave the island I hope you feel the same when you leave the island of Japan [Music] [Music] Now I arrived here at around 11:00 and I have 1 hour until the train time So I like to walk towards the station as I look [Music] around Katu Major Festival Kat’s statue [Music] So back to this Komachi street like color hotels and don’t bike katuni is the largest festival in karatu the another festival katuni festivals big cloth So this is a Kokumat shopping street So from Kat there are three ways to go going back to Koka this way and this Kat I’m going to Saga direction Today I’m taking this train to the south to Imari In the next video I’d like to connect four trains to Sakibo city in Nagasaki Thank you for watching Have a great trip to Japan Have a great weekend to the next video [Music]

Ah thank you so much kenchan for making a video about Karatsu! I find that there are very little videos about Karatsu. I did some research about the place ever since I found out about the Karatsu Kunchi festival, and it looks like such a relaxing and beautiful place to stay for a couple days! Ill be following your guide for when I do a 3 week trip around Kyushu area next year.
