Japan Hike in Abandoned Tunnels | Old JR Fukuchiyama Railway Hike
[Music] hey how’s it going i am at the stunning Takawa station in Hyoga Prefecture just outside of Takarazka and I am going to be doing a hike to Namaz Station really looking forward to it today because look at this view it is absolutely spectacular going to be going through some abandoned train tunnels along the old train line and I’m getting some serious Kyoto Hugawa vibes from this place really reminds me of that area i made a vlog about it if you want to see that I’ve linked it up here let’s go just starting the hike from the base of Teddar station and um not quite what I expected it’s actually a road here as you can see um I thought it would be more like a hiking trail but maybe we’ll get to that a little further up the hiking trail goes on for about 4.7 kilometers along the Mukor River which is one of the major rivers around Nishinoia so we are just on the outskirts of Takaraza Nishinoia that area further into autumn when the leaves change that would be a spectacular this is such a little hidden gem of a hike and that’s one of the great things that I love about Japan is just so much of this so close to the city so it’s a bit of a walk it’s probably about 500 m from the station until we get to the hiking trail we’ve got a little shrine just here and there’s a restaurant over here as well so if you are coming from the opposite direction from Namaz station to Tedda Tedal station um that’s a nice spot just be aware that it’s quite expensive but it’s a nice spot to refuel and here is the hiking trail we’re going to go on here’s our little map we are here and we’re going to go along through at least one two three train tunnels and as you can see when it’s Sakura season you’ve got all these beautiful cherry blossom trees so let’s start it you can see there’s some sleepers along the track here remnants of the old train track that’s so cool and nicely shaded on a hot day like today it’s still really warm even though we’re in mid-occtober now actually learned about this trail from a blog um and also Ally did this hike several years ago i’ll leave the link to the blog down below yoyama life I think is what it’s called goes through quite a bit of detail on how to get here and I’ll also leave a Google Maps link as well and we have made it to the first tunnel absolutely pitch black in there so bring torches oh actually look it’s a short tunnel i can see the light okay probably don’t need a torch for that one wow the camera that I’m using is incredible the DJI Pocket 3 i have just got it on auto and it’s able to still see through this tunnel how nuts is this even me it’s able to pick up my face and like literally there I cannot see very well in here but this camera is able to do it all that’s amazing it’s not even on the night mode as well right made it out of the tunnel not that long i don’t know maybe about 100 m not so long like it curves a little bit but you can see right through the light at the end of the tunnel so outside of that first tunnel there’s just like a little spot here where you can have a little picnic which is exactly what we’re going to do with some sandwiches by the river coming up to tunnel number two and this one you can see right through to the end it’s just a straight shot through looks like it’s a couple of hundred meters long you can see some water coming through here as well just dripping down the walls okay this stuff I’m not sure is this limestone forming on the walls i’m no scientist calcium deposits calcium there you go [Music] getting to the part of the trail where um you’d be having a canopy of cherry blossoms during cherry blossom season and I can also see quite a few morei Japanese maple so again in autumn full foliage spectacular here we go tunnel number three and this one looks super dark this is the longest tunnel so far and you definitely need a torch for this one just seeing what it’s like using a phone torch and um it’s a little dim but it does do the job as long as you’re basically just looking down so so far on the hike this bridge is my favorite view just crossing the Mukor River it’s so stunning i just love this so much [Music] coming up to tunnel number six I believe if I haven’t lost count and it’s so nice no one else around this time around holy cow this is the darkest tunnel we have been in so far cannot see anything need the torch feeling like journey to the center of the earth with this tunnel i cannot believe it cannot see anything cannot see any light there’s no other people as well this time around so yeah definitely a different vibe coming from the Tedda side that is this is the longest tunnel tunnel number six and it it feels like it’s like a almost a kilometer long really crazy pitch black very cool experience this is now tunnel number seven oh wow wo there’s puddles here oh my god that’s a lot of water tunnel of seven has come to an end and this is the view that we’re greeted with it’s crazy wow that’s so nice made it back to civilization and you can see the houses there such a weird feeling and I got a notification on my watch as soon as I just sort of came to this area so funny it was just peaceful no reception that entire time but I think we’re coming to the end rice fields just here and then some more what are these yellow flowers called leave a comment down below and with that as soon as we saw the houses and the rice fields just there that is the end of the hiking trail so it’s about a 15-minute walk now until we get to Namazair Station we’re coming up to a very different tunnel to what we had before full of cars and trucks and motorbikes how is this like some secret government military lab that we’re entering into in so weird so this is the old Fuku Chiyama Railway Trail is what it’s officially called we’ve made it to Namaz Station this tiny little station look at it it’s so so cute if you are coming from Namaz Station it does say the old Fukushyama line tracking course and then it says hiking in Katakana but um yeah you just go out that in that direction walk for about 1.8 km and you’re there oh look they actually looks like they’ve got a map there as well how to get there so all up that took about 4 hours we were taking a a very slow pace and stopping and I’m vlogging as well so getting the footage my name is Lynn thank you so much for watching if you like the video hit the like In this video, I’ll hike abandoned train tunnels in Takarazuka, Japan. The Old JR Fukuchiyama Railway Hike is really relaxed and perfect for people who aren’t hikers. It makes a great half-day trip from Osaka or Kobe and provides stunning scenery with the cool experience of walking through the old tunnels.

What did you think about the hike? Have you got any hidden gem hike recommendations in Kansai or other parts of Japan?
Loved it. Glad to see you out and about again with videos. Love these mountain walk ways and what perfect weather. Some of those tunnels are rather spooky.
Incredible scenery! Japan is a beautiful country.
Awesome hike! Love the tunnels
