6 Must-try Eats in Otaru, Hokkaido – Best ice creams in Japan? Food-focused day trip from Sapporo
so I’m currently eating the yubari melon mixed
ice cream with Hokkaido melon it is Hokkaido melon though hokkaido milk and yubari melon
which is also from Hokkaido the ice cream is really delicious and so is the melon japanese
people take their fruit extremely seriously we had to pay a small fortune for this little
piece of melon right here but it’s really tasty. For drinks someone, not me got this beer which
looks very iconic with the food instead I got this oolong iced tea which tastes very good as
well it is not sweet at all they would really like their unsweetened tea in Japan i think it
is a good alternative to water and it’s also a little more fun and at the same time it’s not
sweet so it’s not unhealthy which is good so I just got my own little set right here you got miso
soup which is 10 times better in Japan fantastic and we got a big bowl of rice some tofu
and the highlight of the day which are these chicken nuggets they are extremely
hot very tasty it is impossible to look nice while also eating these but I will make
one attempt and we’ll see as you can see not happening they are extremely tasty though
very tender and very crispy on the outside i would definitely give this place a five out of
five if you ever find yourself in Otaru, Japan. it’s amazing it’s so crispy i don’t
know how they make the skin so crispy some brown color and then like you can
really listen how feel how crispy that is so it is my turn to try the famous fried
chicken it is very tender on the inside very crispy on the outside not dry at all straight
opposite overall very delicious you can tell that this place is really popular a lot
of locals here or maybe local tourists. this ice cream is really famous in
Otaru it’s eight different flavors layered on top of each other and we have milk
in the bottom here strawberry new body melon i think this is a coffee flavor and then we
have chocolate here and then I don’t really know the rest the melon one is actually
my favorite this ice cream was really good i thought it was just a tourist trap
at first but it’s actually really good. When we were in Otaru today we got their locally
famous cheesecake and I just opened it up to see what it looks like and also to try it before it
gets bad so this is how they have packaged it they have a fork on the side here which we didn’t
even ask for but they thought of that napkin something to have it in and then the most
impressive thing they had this little bag with water inside that they put right next to
the cake to make sure it doesn’t get destroyed when it’s carried around town i mean how many
times haven’t you bought a cake gone home with it and it looks like crap when you have arrived
this totally eliminates that problem the Japanese are so forward thinking when it comes to certain
things and this is such an easy fix too like why haven’t anyone in Europe thought of that and as
for the actual cake so both Otaru and Hokkaido in general is really famous for their cakes
desserts especially ice cream but this cake in particular is very famous in Otaru it is a
Hokkaido style cheesecake thought we would try it it is very good they were handing out samples
in the stores guess who went inside twice i got this strawberry version so in the center layer
there is strawberry flavor other than that it is the classic cheesecake flavor and then there’s
cream on top and the flavor is super soft creamy absolutely delicious if you like desserts in
general you need to visit Hokkaido and Otaru is practically a dessert town with so many unique
desserts to this area and they’re all fantastic.
