we are eating our way through Tokyo if you’re wondering what to eat in Tokyo we’ve got you covered from hidden ramen joints to mom and pop spots we’re showing you everything we ate in Tokyo this has got to be one of the best things I’ve ever put in my mouth this is part two of our Tokyo travel series and today is all about the food i know you food are going to love this spot low-key gems famous eats and budget friendly bites across the city so stick around guys this is going to be a treat now let’s eat our way through Tokyo starting right [Music] now on today’s video we are taking you to every spot we ate here in Tokyo and if you’re new here welcome Foodie johana we’re Amanda and Felix a foodie couple from Hawaii we’re excited to take you along with us on our travels in this Tokyo series from the zen gardens to the hustle and bustle of Tokyo we’re taking you along for the entire adventure you guys when we’re in Japan of course our first stop needs to be ramen right now we’re in the basement of a building adjacent to the train station that’s also like a commercial building i think it’s this way there’s a line you want the big size normal size always big size spicy yes we ordered a lot you think we overdid it a little i was kind of just ordering whatever so right now we made it to Haruchan Ramen it’s been on my list they’re known for chuka soba or Chinese style soba noodles some ramen places are a little different here you order first and then stand in line sometimes you stand in line and then order at the front of the line there was a sign that says you order first before standing in line you go to the machine and you punch in your order and then the tickets came out now we just wait for the seats to open the restaurant is really small i think I saw like three or four seats i think it’s going to be a bit of a wait but it’s okay we’re hungry this is our first meal back in Japan it’s a one lady show mad respect and props to her she perfected her craft guys oh wow you can taste the sweetness from the pork and the sardines gives it that nice umami slightly salty flavor the chashu I got two different types one from the back fat of the pork and one from the leaner cut oh my goodness perfect the chuka soba the noodles al dente and the ramen I just love that it had a perfect mouth feel it felt oily when you first take a sip but it doesn’t leave that oily film on your mouth check out Haru Chan if you like a more lighter ramen and not as heavy and thick broth that’s the place to check out that was an amazing ramen [Music] experience all right guys so this next spot is a pizza shop why am I taking you to a pizza shop you ask believe it or not Japan has some of the best pizzeras in the world if you don’t believe me look it up trust us so the one we’re at today is called Pizza Mumo highly acclaimed a lot of good reviews and a friend even told me to check this place out looks like they have a lot of Japanese fusion pizzas and a lot of traditional pizzas so we’re going to just order a little bit of everything give it a try don’t want to miss this a little fun fact before our food arrives chef Moto Kura Yuki or the pizza olo that runs this joint was at one point rated the 10th best pizza olo in the world let that sink in guys being a Japanese native that’s impressive i got a pizza ficasha this is a menntico or little ficasha bread it came out super quick and there’s bread on the bottom and then the top is some kind of like mennto paste cheers it’s kind of like those pizza balls at home the taco version oh wow that cod roll is really good umami salty very flavorful creamy too wow the bread you can tell is excellent here that’s making me excited for the pizza so this is their arugula salad topped with homemade pushto you can tell by the coloring it’s different already and a balsamic glaze so fatty it’s like cheers m m wow very light and refreshing with a hint of sweetness and the dressing has like a Japanese flare to it the crushed pistachios is what does it for me i haven’t had crushed pistachios on arugula salad before that’s really good we might need to recreate this so this is the margarita and that is the marinara our first pizza has arrived this is called the half and half better appreciate just the in-housemade sauce there’s marinara basil olive oil and garlic that he freshly peels by hand by the way we’re watching them make it as we speak this is so light and airy you can really taste the fresh individual ingredients oh man the star of the show is the dough so light lightly crunchy on the outside love the char tomato sauce is very vibrant bright garlic is just enough spice just enough punch flavor very simple very delicious can’t wait to try the other pizzas thank you all right guys so this one is one of their signature pies this is called the Bismar this is basically a truffle pizza with a egg pecarino cheese and mozzarella i guess this is like their take on the like carbonara pasta but in a pizza as you can see this one is quite messy it’s going to be a fork and knife situation all in one bite wow i was anticipating a strong hit of truffle but it’s very subtle which is what I love cuz a lot of places it’s just going to punch you in the face with truffle flavor it’s pleasantly there the egg gives it a nice creamy texture nice salty pork flavor wow this is This is a really really good pizza highly recommend getting this one too all right guys so this next one is more like a little dessert pizza for ourselves this is the four cheese pizza it’s a simple pizza with four cheeses pecarino marcapone gorgenola and of course the buffalo mozzarella and we finish it with honey drizzled on top [Music] the honey is just like the perfect kiss of sweetness oh man i will say the gorgenola with the honey combined tastes like a gorgenola salad how it’s like a little sweet and funky i really like that if you’re into that kind of funky cheese taste with some sweetness this is it for you perfect way to round off the night here if you guys are planning to come to Pizza Marumo like we did and give them a try please make reservations and please request the counterside seating because it’s a show guys the way the chefs stoke the woodf fire oven the way they orchestrate the pizza making and everything it’s expert level it’s fun to watch and it’s a perfect date night spot on this trip we were blessed to spend some time with our incredible YouTube friends Tabby Eats creators we’ve watched admired and learned so much from over the years they took us to a yaki tori joint tucked away down an alley in Shinjuku there’s just something about simple food shared with people who just get it the air filled with the smoky perfume of chicken skewers grilling over charcoal golden blistered and brushed with that sweet savory tad sauce laughter flowed between clinks of beer glasses as we caught up on life and because Tokyo always has one more surprise we ended the night with a short walk to one of the city’s most popular dessert spots here they take parfets to the next level this shop’s dessert looked more like modern art and tasted like an explosion of flavor a perfect sweet end to an unforgettably fun evening this next spot we are taking you guys is in this tiny little quiet neighborhood of Yoy Yogi it is a kaki shop or shave ice shop we have been excited to try this place out we were able to get reservations it is reservation only so make sure you check their website I believe 7 days before and they have like a specific time that they release the reservation slots as well so we’re monitoring that while we’re in Vietnam and I think it’s about time to go in so this shop is called Azuki Doori they’re known for their shave ice and the owner is a twostar Michelin pastry chef that opened up her own kaki the own shaved ice store so this place is packed trust me you guys don’t want to miss a reservation here first shave ice bite cheers super refreshing and we learned from our friends Tabit last night that it’s actually strawberry season so this is perfect so I got the apple chibus shave ice as you can see it was bruleed on the top this is raining or apple flavor ooh so delicate oh my god oh my gosh it’s like I’m eating a creamy applesauce shave ice it sounds weird but it’s super refreshing super light it just instantly melts away in your mouth rule on the top gives it a nice burnt creamy taste it’s almost like a apple crisp pie oh there’s even a filling on the inside the inside is like a apple pie warm apple pie filling it’s like cinnamon nuttiness it’s so good there’s tons of different textures in here as well fruity refreshing creamy and there is even like bits of biscuit or a more crunchy texture there’s also jelly in here as well this next spot I am very excited for highly anticipated it is tucked away in the Nihashi area and this spot is known for one thing and one thing only which is Wagyu the pinnacle of meats and it’s kind of hidden it’s right downstairs from here but you don’t want to take the stairs they advise you to use the elevators and also stay to the end of this one because they have a signature dish that everyone raves about so stick around guys this is going to be a treat let’s go all right guys so we are at a Japanese steakhouse a Wagyu steakhouse called Shima serving up primera Wagyu but with a western twist so it’s going to be western style steakhouse using Wagyu isn’t that the perfect combination or what and also they are known very famously for their Wagyu steak sandwich guys it’s only available for takeout so we might have to go out and eat it after this but trust me it’s very special they often sell out but FYI we were able to snag one so we’re very excited guys you can tell we’re not bougie we’re at a fancy steakhouse and of course we had to order tea for Amanda and of course I had to get my Coke they’re so like attention to detail they even pour it out for you it’s kind of funny it’s the first time I’ve seen that normally it’s like beer or fancy sake we didn’t order any apps because we want to just purely enjoy the meat we came here for the meats but they start you off with three pieces of house bread looks like three different types squid ink bread and what is this one i didn’t hear what she said and that one’s raisin it’s more idea oh wow you can actually taste the squiding like squiding pasta i really can’t wait for this the menu here is so simple it’s literally just filt or sirloin steak that’s all you get and it’s sold by grams in weight we’re making room for this steak sandwich i got a sirloin cooked to medium rare 100 g i couldn’t calculate in my head in grams this is like about a little over 3 oz i kind of wish I knew that i would have ordered a little bit bigger piece but anyway let’s see the dness of the steak very simple finished in the salamander got a nice crust here top with garlic chips medley of roasted vegetables temporarily dust the garlic chips to the side so always cut cross-section right down the middle oh my god i don’t even need this knife this knife is not necessary holy perfect medium rare i cannot wait to bite into this very simply seasoned just salt and pepper oh boy going it oh it’s so tender this I’m like cutting a block of butter let’s put a little bit of garlic chip on here first bite of Wagyu in Japan cheers guys on my bucket list of things to see amazing that thing just melted away in my mouth disintegrated i didn’t even use my teeth i think the pressure of my tongue dissolved the meat itself i love it here too very interesting they give you olives on the table side in case the meat gets too fatty you just pop one of these bad boys in your mouth reset the taste buds they also give you wasabi and soy sauce very Japanese style if you want to eat it that way on the plates there’s even hot mustard too it’s very catered to how you like to eat it i mean I’m fine with just the garlic chips and rau so tender guys can’t wait to show you guys the steak sandwich let’s see what Manda thinks about her steak so I got the filt oh it looks so tender going in so tender look at that bouncy oh my goodness that knife doesn’t even Oh oh my goodness nicely cooked perfect to my liking oh goodness i got medium rare but I like that this is a little closer to a medium but this is also like the outer part as well whenever we come to Japan we have to have steak at least once oh my god you guys this is the most tender steak I’ve had in a long time wow nice meatiness to fatty ratio it’s not overly fatty as well i did get the filt so it’s a little bit meaner i got to go for bite number two but it does not feel lean or hard to eat it’s very very tender wow i’m a happy camper you got to save room for the steak sandwich i think that’s a first usually I’m the one saving room for dessert i’m saving room for steak guys this is probably one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen big shout out mahalo to of course Shima the restaurant we’re dining at because these are normally for takeout only but they were nice enough to allow us to enjoy it here in the restaurant normally if you get it for to go take out they serve it in a nice wooden box for you to take home nice presentation if you will but here they plated it for us so that we can enjoy it here since we’re leaving tomorrow and without further ado let’s get into the steak sandwich they were nice enough to cut it up for us too to make it like almost like finger sandwiches the chef makes everything in house everything from the toasted Hokkaido milk bread to the tomato compost the mustard the steak are the leftover trimmings after preparing all the other meats it’s still going to be Wagyu premium grade but none of the meats go to waste here i’m so ready for this it’s so tender so soft the standard order i mean that makes a lot of sense he’s speechless this has got to be one of the best things I’ve ever put in my mouth i mean I’ve eaten a lot of food in my life but this is going to be up there on one of the mustry things once in your life succulent juicy pieces of Wagyu nestled perfectly between the Hokkaido milk toast there’s just enough integrity to hold all of the beefy juicy glory in place the homemade tomato compost which serves as a ketchup in this case adds the perfect amount of acidity homemade mustard just ties it in so well all together to kind of just keep balanced so that it’s not overwhelmingly fatty i don’t feel heavy eating this like it’s just delicious it should be up there on the list of like best sandwiches in the world i’m not even joking this is amazing do yourself a favor make yourself a reservation come here if you can’t snag a reservation maybe just try and see if you can get it to go shima is a familyowned and run business maybe even come by talk story with all the patrons very friendly people just do yourself a favor come down i was literally just telling Felix the last thing I want tonight is a nice little dessert and voila they read my mind we have two little sorbets here it looks so good i had no idea that it comes with a dessert we did not order this they just brought it out again this is a very very family warm restaurant so they even top it off with the dessert that’s just the epitome of a mom and pop spot they were even asking “Oh where we’re from and all these things.” And really wanting to get to know you they know all of their customers as well i guess a lot of people here are regulars going in raspberry yogurt perfect way to end the night oh my god you guys they just dropped another little plate of treats for us wow that is something I did not even expect not at all this one not even on the menu is just arriving guys again the hospitality here is on point it’s kind of like eating at your auntie’s house when you go over they just continue to put food in front of you it’s exactly that feeling it feels so homely in here i just really like this spot this This spot is I highly recommend i know you food Ohana are going to love this spot kind of like assorted treats wow this one’s kind of calling my name i don’t know thank you very much thank you very much come check them out guys baked cheesecake you guys they are literally the cutest people ever seriously they would not let us leave we had to refuse them tell them no coffee no tea they’ve been closed for 2 hours we were literally the last person on their reservation list and they are still popping in there and they would not let us leave they even gave us a little thing to take home of homemade cheesecake the host came all the way up showed us to the door you guys hospitality there you’re just treated like family we didn’t tell them that we had a channel or anything yeah we we literally just showed up we decided to film last minute we actually were thinking of not filming because it was getting so late we thought we would be an inconvenience by making them stay late and everything but they’re still having a party down there you guys will love this spot it’s called Shima it’s in Nihon Bashi just check them out trust me you guys are going to love it trust me but you guys I know the price is a little steep it is a steakhouse and it is Wagyu we understand it’s not everybody’s cup of tea not everybody has the means for a steakhouse but you guys we have more places tomorrow a more affordable spot for you guys to check out so stay tuned we are in Nihonashi and now we are at the Coredo department store and I found something I’ve been wanting to try there is actually a copycat restaurant in Hawaii right now but I wanted to try this place Suji so today we are here at Suji each of us have to order one bowl so that’s what we did i got the most basic one it’s filled with salmon roll tuna naka ochi which is flesh scraped from the bones welk geoduck clam squid herring eggs cucumber and green onion there is also white rice on the bottom ni sheets shiso leaf and some wasabi and they even showed us this plaque how to enjoy it so this here is the soy sauce with egg first off I’m going to spread it out oo you can see the fish in there if you want you could add the wasabi in here and then pour it over but I’m going to just enjoy the wasabi on the side by itself now I’m pouring the soy sauce with egg yolk oh the rice is steaming hot cheers [Music] the rice is nice and warm and then the cold fish is so refreshing there’s so many different types of flavors going on it’s hard for me to pinpoint exactly what seafood is what but super fresh i love the crunchy refreshing cucumbers the little bursts of the salmon roll the rice has sesame seeds on it roasted sesame it gives it a nice toasty nutty flavor and a hint of crunch trying the sashimi cheers m buttery melty this is some kind of like showyu/ sesame sauce very delicious very different little nutty don’t forget to leave the two pieces for the Thai dashi let them know when the rice bowl is 1/3 full and then they’ll add the seabream broth so I just ordered the sea bream broth it looks like a completely different dish altogether so with the remaining rice and fish in here it creates a nice fishy broth along with the residual showyu and roasted sesame seeds ooh and then they even add I think green onion as well m fishy yet savory and a hint of sweetness and citrus flavor i taste a little bit of maybe yuzu flavor very nice and seafood it kind of tastes like if you had a seafood broth with a hint of citrus flavor and a hint of like dashi or soy perfect for this cold day in Tokyo and as they say you have to eat it with the fish a little different let me try it i’m not sure why that’s better or not but it still tastes really good i think maybe I’m supposed to add it in when you add the fish in it becomes like a tapi cuz of the hot broth it cooks up the fish just slightly i guess if you like it that way you can just put the fish straight in it’s delicious if you guys thought that last Wagi spot was epic wait till you see this spot budget friendly and delicious let’s go we’re at the ever popular Yukatsu Moto Moto yukatu is basically a beef cutlet it’s Wagyu beef that’s lightly battered and fried it’s cooked rare and you cook it to your dness the way you like it on these little guys so when they’re about to bring out our orders they’re going to light up these little candle stoves and you can cook your meat to your dness it is a fun interactive meal at an affordable price for Wagyu that is it’s very simple every set comes with miso soup and rice if you want you can add other sides the star of the show is the guatu it’s done pretty rare you can eat it straight like this and enjoy it right away or if you want to cook it a little oh my gosh listen to that crackle tell me your mouth isn’t salivating right now the way I like to enjoy it is with a little bit of wasabi and a very quick dip in the soy bath and enjoy oh man I forgot how good this was need some rice the meat is butter it’s so tender wagyu the light crunch from the outside batter the batter itself very simple seasoning it’s not heavily flavored it’s just salt and pepper they want you to enjoy the Wagyu with the sauces on the side here it’s very customizable you can eat it however you want even comes with a side of shredded cabbage in case it gets too heavy you can enjoy a nice refreshing salad reset the taste buds keeps you going man even potato salad too oh my gosh this is like a Wagyu plate lunch heaven look at the marbling on this this look pretty fatty don’t want to overcook it just slightly straight from the griddle to my mouth this is divine i’d eat here once a day if I could i’ve been dreaming about this you guys our last couple trips we weren’t able to make it out here little dip scared also pro tip guys feel free to load up on the delicious rice and cabbage because it is free refill so don’t be shy to ask they’re more than happy to refill it for you all right foodana
