Osaka Vlog | The Best Okonomiyaki in Japan & Osaka Expo 2025 Experience
Hey, welcome back to my Japan Diaries. We just arrived at Osaka Station. After wrapping up work, we’ll be meeting a friend for Okonomiyaki. Here we are! This little spot is said to have the best Okonomiyaki in Japan. This place is run my Osaka friend’s grandpa (he’s over 80!) He only uses the best ingredients. No shortcuts. No gimmicks. Just really good food! It’s mostly regulars here. People who’ve been coming for years. Did you know you eat Okonomiyaki using this spatula? (It’s called a kote) Heads up, it’s only open 5pm to 9pm. Grandpa doesn’t work long hours anymore. Check out the shop details in the description below. And don’t miss the “Tataki” perfectly seared beef with ponzu and a mountain of spring onions. It’s super good! It is indeed the best Okonomiyaki shop in Japan! This is our Airbnb in Osaka. A cozy little house with three rooms. Let me show you around tomorrow morning. The kitchen is super well-equipped. Pretty much has everything you’d need. There’s a tatami-style room for that traditional feel, and a western-style room too. Nice to have both options. We found a cute breakfast spot nearby, serving traditional Japanese breakfast. Turns out, it’s actually a homestay! Such a homey vibe. The kitchen is run by just one lady. Excited for this meal! It’s not something I usually get. Rice with flavored egg yolk, miso soup, and a few small side dishes. I thought it’d feel heavy, but it’s actually light and just the right amount except maybe the rice—I should’ve asked for less. Such a hearty, homey meal. If I lived nearby, I’d be a regular for sure. Alright, time to head over to the Osaka Expo! OMG… the crowd is unreal…. And the weather isn’t on our side today… We took shelter in the Qatar Pavilion, waiting for the rain to pass. Rain stopped, but the wind is still wild. My friend helped me get this raincoat from the merch shop (5000 yen!) It’s actually kinda cute haha Here’s a quick look at the Expo mascot, Myaku-Myaku. The France Pavilion doesn’t require reservations The line’s long, but it moves quickly. We are in the France Pavilion now. Feels like they’re showcasing what France takes pride in. Grabbed a Vietnamese Banh Mi for lunch (1900 yen) Stopping for coffee at this adorable Moomin booth, in front of the Nordic Circle Pavilion. The Japan Pavilion is super popular, lottery-only entry. But! After 6:50pm, they open to walk-ins. We’ve got a bit of time, so let’s check out the merch shop. They’ve got a Sanrio collab, kinda cute but… 4,620 yen?! Lots of fun, quirky stuff here. This baum cake looks yummy. Getting these to bring back to the office. In Japan, it’s common to bring souvenirs for your coworkers when you travel Let’s head back to the Japan Pavilion now. Look at this line… After almost an hour wait… we finally made it in! There are three main areas, and we’re starting in the Factory Area. It’s about honoring the old and building a sustainable future with human craft. This second ares is Plant Area Here features water that’s been purified using microorganisms. So clean it’s almost pure. And here’s the Farm Area—featuring Hello Kitty as algae! The Japan Pavilion has a lot to see, learn, and experience. But to be honest, it’s so crowded, it’s hard to fully enjoy. You can read more on the Japan Pavilion’s official website (link in the description) Ending our day at the Expo with a beautiful water show. Thanks for watching. See you in the next video! 🙂
Hi, I’m Sai! I share silent vlogs capturing the little moments of life in Japan.
In this episode 33, I took a trip to #osaka and had the best okonomiyaki of my life — at a small local spot run by an 80-year-old grandpa. No fancy setting, just great ingredients, comforting flavors, and loyal regulars. Truly a hidden gem.

The next day, I visited the #osakaexpo2025 . It’s huge and while I couldn’t cover everything, I focused on two of the most talked-about pavilions: Japan and France. It was super crowded and honestly exhausting to film, but I tried my best to capture the experience for you.

Highly recommend checking it out. There’s so much info that you just can’t absorb during the real visit (because of the crowd 😅).
