One of the newest and most lavish hotels in Osaka just gave us more reason to visit. The Waldorf Astoria Osaka, an Andre Fu-designed hotel with an on-site onsen, has announced the opening of Canes & Tales, a destination cocktail bar offering a glamorous escape into the 1930s Golden Age of Jazz.
As a nod to the hotel’s legacy in New York and the hideaway bars of Manhattan, the intimate 47-seat bar, located on the 28th floor in the Umekita district, can be found at the end of a dimly lit corridor, tucked behind a dark green door. Can’t find it? A symbolic gold ampersand will point you in the right direction.

Inside, a uniquely shaped bar sets the stage, where guests are treated to a performance every evening. Director of mixology Dominic Dijkstra takes charge, along with bar manager Masahiko Ohama and bar supervisor Shimba Ishikawa, all of whom bring a depth of international experience to a place catered to guests from all walks of life.
At Canes & Tales, the menu is designed around a specific story, with F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Tales of the Jazz Age as its debut. Each of Fitzgerald’s 11 short stories has been reimagined as a cocktail, paying homage to a time of unbridled elegance, reckless romance and true indulgence. For instance, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, a tale of a child living life in reverse, comes to life with your pick of whisky age statement, before it’s combined with fig-infused Pedro Ximénez sherry, Mancino Rosso Vermouth, Bénédictine DOM and bitters.
The cocktails are an intoxicating blend of sophistication and mischief, and pair perfectly with a fusion of Japanese and classic New York bites. Standouts include the Coney Island Hot Dog, bourbon-glazed C&T Fried Chicken, Japanese Oysters and the Waldorf Astoria Osaka Private Label Caviar menu.
Open Wednesdays to Sundays, Canes & Tales is walk-in only
