TOKYO — Suspicious messages including threats to “harm as many children as possible” were sent to multiple junior and senior high schools here June 3 and 4, prompting the closures of schools in the capital’s Koto Ward June 5 and 6, the Mainichi Shimbun has learned from police and other sources.
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is investigating the threats, with possible charges including forcible obstruction of business.
According to sources including the MPD and the Koto Ward Government, a message was entered on the inquiry form for Kaetsu Gakuen, operator of a junior and senior high school in Koto Ward, the gist of which included threats to school staff and students.
Nakamura Junior & Senior Girls’ High School, also in Koto Ward, received a post through its inquiry form with a threat that the sender would “attack by several people and stab to kill as many students as possible on June 5 and 6.”
In response, Nakamura Junior & Senior Girls’ High School decided to close its campus on both days, taking the messages as death threats.
Around a dozen schools in metropolitan Tokyo reportedly received similar messages around June 3 and 4.
