How to Do Japan with Kids: Fun, Food & Culture Without the Stress
[Music] Thinking about taking your kids to Japan? It’s one of the most exciting, family-friendly countries in the world, but also one that can feel a little overwhelming at first. Don’t worry. In this video, I’ll walk you through how to do Japan with kids. From stress-free planning to fun things to do, kid-friendly food, and even how to keep those jetlagged meltdowns to a minimum. Let’s make your Japan trip amazing and easy. All right, let’s start with the basics. Japan is super safe, clean, and well organized, but it helps to plan a little. If it’s your first time, I’d recommend choosing two or three cities max. Tokyo and Kyoto are a great combo with maybe Asaka and Hakone as the third stop if you’ve got more time. Trains are amazing, but maybe don’t try to do a different city every day. You’ll just end up carrying luggage while your kids spiral. Aim for three to four nights in each spot to really enjoy [Music] it. Worried your kids won’t eat anything? Don’t be. Japan is full of super kid-friendly food. Ramen is warm, comforting, and fun to slurp. Katsu curry is basically breaded chicken with a mild curry sauce. Easy win. And convenience stores, total lifesaver. Grab a rice balls, sandwiches, fruit, and snacks for train rides or quick park picnics. Plus, nearly every restaurant has plastic food displays or pictures to point to, so ordering is easy, even if no one speaks [Music] Japanese. Tokyo is huge, but don’t let that scare you. Here are a few places kids absolutely love. Team Lab Planets. It’s immersive, interactive, and magical. Veno Zoo and National Museum of Nature and Science. Great combo in Venue Park. Kitty Land in Harajuku. Five floors of toys, anime merch, and kid chaos. And if they need to let off steam, head to Shinjuku Joen. It’s a gorgeous park where you can chill, snack, and let them run. Keep days flexible, mix one big thing with downtime or park visits. Kyoto is more chill and it’s all about temples, gardens, and tradition. And yes, you can do it with kids. Start with a rickshaw ride in Arashiama Bamboo Forest. They’ll love the ride and you’ll get a mini history tour. Then Fushimi Inari Shrine with the red Tory gates is great for photos and short hikes. You can go early to avoid the crowds. I would personally recommend ninja or samurai experiences. There are loads of fun spots where kids can dress up and try some new moves. for downtime. Many temples have peaceful gardens or koi ponds where kids can watch fish and relax. When it comes to where to stay, go for apartmentstyle hotels or Japanese ins with family rooms. Some even have futons or tatami floors, which kids think is super fun. Having a kitchen or microwave helps, especially with picky eaters or early risers. So, here are a few final tips to make the trip smooth as possible. Use a pocket Wi-Fi or SIM card. You’ll need Google Maps. Download Google Translate. It’s super helpful for menus and signs. Bring a pram if your kids are younger. Japan’s flat and stations have elevators. And don’t overpack. You’ll find everything you need here, including baby items and kids snacks. Most importantly, leave room for slow mornings, spontaneous stops, and snack breaks. Japan is full of magic, even in the small [Music] moments. So, there you go. Japan with kids is totally doable. With a bit of planning, you’ll find it’s one of the easiest and most fascinating places to travel as a family. If you’ve been or planning to go, let us know in the comments.
