On the 3rd, Orix manager Mamoru Kishida expressed his condolences following the passing of The Giants’ lifetime honorary manager Shigeo Nagashima.

Regarding Nagashima’s playing days, he said, “I saw him on reruns (on TV),” but added, “I got the impression that he was a legendary person, even more so from watching him on TV. I was shocked and saddened,” mourning the passing of the baseball legend.

He continued, “baseball is not the national sport, but it’s close to being one. I think it’s thanks to him that the sport of baseball has flourished so much in Japan.” He also expressed his gratitude, saying, “I want to do my best to ensure that it doesn’t die out.”
