We Spent 3 Days in Sendai, Japan – Fox Village, Onsen & Ghibli Vibes

Oh my god, they’re so cute. Look. Welcome to [Music] Sai. So, Sai, this is the next stop in our journey and after coming from a rian in the middle of nowhere, it’s a big change of pace. Sai is one of the biggest cities in Tohoku. Actually, the biggest city in the region of Tohoku in the capital of the Miyagi Perfecture. It has around 1 million inhabitants. So, you can you can imagine the difference of pace for us. So, it has quite a lot to explore. Not just temples and parks, but also so much to do like little cafes, restaurants, tito stations, a lot of stuff for us to do. So, join us while we explore [Music] [Applause] Sai. So, you know, follow along. Back to the video. So, we’re here at the Sai Morning Market. As you can see, uh there’s a lot of food stalls, so we’re going to check it out. You can see like a lot of fruit and vegetables here and buy yourself some very fresh food. Let’s check it out. [Music] So this is one of the shrines you can visit in Sai. It’s a little bit further out uh but it’s like 30 minute walk from the center of the city near the station. It’s called Atago Shrine. and be prepared for a couple of steps cuz it’s looking dire. Like really. Let’s go. Hopefully we don’t die midway. Let’s go. [Music] I’m dying. But, you know, we have to get those steps in in the morning and it is worth it for the view. Uh, but we still have just a little bit more to go and it’s all left. So, you know, small prayer for us. Let’s go. And this is what it looks like up here. And after all those stairs, [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] which is still extremely co cold here in Sai. It’s 4° C and we are freezing our faces off, but we’re still going by foot because I’m hungry. Yeah, we’re trying to find a place to eat. Let’s see. Let’s see if we can find it. Let’s go. What I find really interesting is that you see a lot of old people actually doing sports. Like we’re going by a tennis court with a couple of them just and I have to say like they would probably win in a match with me. Like not even joking. They seem like they’re very [Music] fit. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Uh, it’s a bit tricky to get here because because there’s there’s an office tower and you can go up to the 31st 31st floor and you have a whole view of Sundai. [Music] almost. [Music] Sai also has quite a lot of things that you can do around it. Uh like for example the Zhao village uh which is the fox village and also Gins and Anson. So you can take for example a tour with a bus that takes you to both places but Zho village is around 40 minutes from Sai. During the winter as we already mentioned as well previously because of the snow you can always have trains be cancelled so you never know. Uh, we do recommend the tours for sure. You can check our blog for all the links of the tours that we would recommend. So, today we’re going to check those places out and show you what it’s all about. Let’s go. [Music] There’s around 100 foxes here and you can walk amongst them. You just have, of course, to be careful because it’s they’re wild animals, obviously, so you can’t really pet them and you have to be careful that you don’t touch them or uh provoke them. But they’re very cute. It’s actually It’s snowing. It’s not snowing, but they’re snow. So, you can see them while they walk on the snow. It’s very cute. What do you think about it, too? They’re so cute. Yeah. Do you have like the big lens so you can get them? Yeah. We do recommend you bring maybe a lens uh that can zoom in quite well because obviously they they move around very quickly and they’re quite hard to capture. Uh but it’s totally worth it. Oh my god, they’re so cute. Look. So [Music] cute. They’re very adorable. But they fight from time to time. Some of them fight and it’s a really really strange noise that they do. [Music] They sound like they’re dying actually. Jesus. [Music] So [Music] [Applause] Yeah. Hey, did you get one? Yeah. Cute kids. Plus, I just watched the staff actually bow to a to a fox because she let him pass. Only in Japan, [Applause] [Music] man. [Applause] [Music] Another spot destroyer takes you. and taking in consideration that you can go from Sai is Ginsen and we’re finally here which is so exciting. You can take a shuttle bus as well from a souvenir shop uh towards Gins and yeah going to check it out. Going to the cafe also going to the famous spots in the Ginsen. Hopefully putting my little feet in the foot bath as well. Are you going to put your feet in the No, that sounds disgusting. Okay. There’s also quite still a lot of snow here and we’re in March. So, if you’re coming during this time of the year, keep in mind it’s very cold. It snows quite a lot here. And it’s cold and windy. So, yeah. [Music] one of the oldest Hanssons here which is approximately 100 years old and for the Gibli fans out there it’s also nonsen that is many fans believed it was the inspiration for Spirited Away [Music] [Music] Okay. The famous foot baths where you can put your little toes inside while it’s freezing outside. trying to go for that artistic shot. So, Ginsson, fun fact, was actually a silver mine location. That’s uh hence why the name Gin uh for silver and zan for like uh mine or mountain. Also, the water is extremely clear here. Very beautiful. Fun fact about Vashkum. He loves tanukis. So, let’s call him because I saw one. Hey, Chew. Watch out. Look what I found there. There’s a huge tanuki right behind us. So cute. It’s your favorite animal, right? It’s my spirit animal. Your spirit animal. I think I should take a photo with Tanuki. with my brother. Of course. Of course. [Music] It’s approved or it’s red bean, right? So, I’ll I’ll not try it. I hate that. Can I eat my cookie now? No. Try it. No. No. I want to try. [Music] Such a cool vibe at night. Right. Right. So, after returning from the tour, we’re going to just take some photos of Sai City, say goodbye to it properly. Let’s go. Heat. Heat. N. [Music] [Music] We’re going to go to the station. Uh but it’s very very rainy and it actually snowed uh during the morning quite a lot uh which is not very common here in in Sai and our next stop is uh Yamagata and there’s a rapid train that goes directly from here to Yamagata uh from the Jer line. It’s supposedly 1 hour and a half and we’re pretty much uh praying that it doesn’t get cancelled or something. So hopefully we can get there safely. [Music] Heat. Hey, heat. Hey, heat. We spent 3 unforgettable days in Sendai, Japan, exploring some of the most magical places we’ve ever seen. From meeting adorable foxes at Zao Fox Village to wandering the snowy streets of Ginzan Onsen, everything felt like a scene straight out of a Studio Ghibli film.
