TOKYO — With the reprieve from the U.S.’s sweeping tariffs ending in about a month, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba hopes to reach a deal before then by seizing two potential opportunities to meet with President Donald Trump at international gatherings.

The leaders are slated to attend the Group of Seven summit in Kananaskis, Canada, starting June 15, followed the next week by a NATO summit in the Netherlands. Ishiba is preparing to hold talks with Trump on the sidelines of those meetings.
