Yoku Moku Embraces a Japanese Twist
Founded in 1969, Yoku Moku became a household name in Japan thanks to its signature buttery “Cigare” cookies, inspired by European sweets. While the brand originally aimed to bring Western flavors to Japan, it’s now reimagining its offerings with Japanese tastes in mind—starting with matcha.
To create a matcha flavor worthy of its rich confections, Yoku Moku partnered with Uji-based tea purveyor Hotta Katsutaro Shoten. Together, they developed a custom blend using first-harvest leaves aged for a year, achieving a smooth, deep taste that balances perfectly with Yoku Moku’s signature buttery sweets.
Matcha Sweets at Tokyo Station
Yoku Moku’s Tokyo Station Ichibangai store has reopened with a fresh look, now themed around its new matcha sweets. The updated interior blends Japanese design elements—like classic teapots and architectural motifs—with playful touches unique to the brand.
At Tokyo Station’s Yoku Moku, visitors can watch pastry chefs prepare sweets on-site. Don’t miss the Crispy Cream Puff Matcha (¥572), filled with rich Uji matcha cream, available through June 11. Also on offer is the Minami Aoyama Roll Uji Matcha (¥1,836), a fluffy roll cake with light cream and matcha ganache—available in a special small size exclusive to this location and perfect for sharing.
While the original buttery Cigare cookies are still available, the Tokyo Station Yoku Moku now offers a rich matcha experience ideal for travelers. For authentic Japanese sweets and memorable souvenirs, this revamped shop is a must-visit.
