The Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka was officially inaugurated by the Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadilah Yusof, showcasing its global ambitions on a prestigious international stage held every five years.
The Deputy Prime Minister announced a significant achievement for Malaysia’s participation: the successful securing of more than RM8 billion in potential investment and the signing of 20 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). This accomplishment represents 61.54% of the overall RM13 billion target set for Malaysia’s involvement in the exposition.
The Opening Ceremony was graced by the presence of Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan; Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Liew Chin Tong; Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan, H.E Dato’ Shahril Effendi Abd Ghany; Deputy Secretary General (Industry) Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, Datuk Hanafi Sakri; and Malaysia Pavilion Director Ms. Ellyza Mastura Ahmad Hanipiah.
Adding a cultural touch to the launch, the Malaysia Pavilion also unveiled its official mascot, “Lina”. Lina embodies a young Malaysian girl on a journey of discovery and balance, guided by her future self. Her evolving batik “selempang” transforming into songket symbolizes transformation, identity, and hope, reflecting the thoughtful, empowered, and heritage-rooted next generation of Malaysians embracing global sustainability ideals.
In addition to officiating the launch, Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof, who also serves as the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, witnessed the signing of a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sarawak Energy Berhad and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). This agreement underscores a shared commitment to advancing clean energy collaboration and regional decarbonisation, reinforcing Malaysia’s leadership in sustainable infrastructure development.
Malaysia’s participation in Expo 2025 Osaka is a concerted effort led by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), supported by a whole-of-government approach involving 21 ministries and approximately 70 agencies. The nation’s showcase will center on seven strategic sectors: sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, smart living, green manufacturing, industrial reform, environmental management, and the halal industry.
Through its presence at the 6-month exposition, Malaysia aims to unlock RM13 billion in potential trade and investment returns, highlighting its appeal as a future-focused economic and innovation partner. The event is projected to attract 1.5 million visitors to the Malaysia Pavilion, positioning the nation as a key destination for innovation, culture, and global collaboration.
