Rainy Day in Okinawa – But Still the Best Food Trip Ever

Want to know how we spend the day here in Naha during the rainy season? Today we’re exploring some of Naha’s coolest spots. Retroback streets, stylish cafes, and modern Okinawan food. Hey guys, welcome back and greetings from Okinawa. So, we are here in Naha during the rainy season. But that just gives us an excuse to explore the back streets, eat warm comfort food, and enjoy the mellow vibe of Naha when it’s rainy and quiet. In Okinawa, the rain doesn’t continue all day long. So, sometimes rain stuff. I think it’s no problem to enjoy Naha in rainy season. Oh, good, good, good. Anyway, come along with us. This is what we usually do on a rainy day in Naha. Breakfast time. We came to Sakazaka. Sakrazaka theater. It’s located near Makishi shopping area. Kind of retro vibe. This one started 1952. They shows not only recent films, all the films in these films. The first floor there is a cafe and we are sitting in front of the the theater. It’s a terasa seating. And I ordered ham and cheese sandwich with coffee. They also included hashes kisses at the first floor. They also have Okinawan ceramics yachim. So these dishes are yachim dishes. So beautiful. My day always starts with coffee. Nice bitterness. It made me cheer up even in rainy day. Now rain is starting. Ham and cheese toast sandwich. M. I like this the crispiness of outside. Look inside there’s a ham and cheese. It has a nice salty taste. Wow. Lots of cheese inside and ham. It’s very good day starting. This is one of my personal favorite spots here in the city. If you watch my other channel, Shnnei’s World, you know that I visited this place recently for breakfast and I got the exact same thing. I got the three bread set with a drink and it’s only 800 yen. I mean, check it out. You got three types of bread. This is some kind of a fruit bread. This is a baguette. And this is a third of a bagel. And they’re warmed up. And of course, the beautiful Yachuman pottery. And then you have honey, cream cheese, and butter. And you can order coffee or tea. Of course, I got hot tea for myself. I mean, this place has everything for me. I mean, good food, relaxing vibe. Yachim ceramics and movies. And movies. It’s so good. Sorry. Look at it. Isn’t it beautiful? Um, I don’t know if you can buy the exact same one, but I mean, you have like two floors of Yachimoon ceramics. The first floor as well as the second floor. So, that is my bagel. And I don’t know why, but the bread here is really good. And like I said, it’s warmed up. And I’m going to eat this with some cream cheese. And the cream cheese is nice and softened, so it’s easy to spread. M. Oh, this makes me so happy. Bagel and cream cheese is kind of like my comfort food, I guess. It’s so good. The baguette. Once again, look at that. Can you hear the crusty bread? M. It’s really good. The baguette’s amazing. I just love this whole place. Like Satoshi said, perfect on a rainy day. So this is the second floor of the movie theater. You can see the collection of Yachimun ceramics here. It’s amazing. You find modern ones like these. Then you have the very traditional ones here. Satoshi actually likes yachimun as well. So that’s good. We both have similar tastes. After breakfast, we spent some time just walking around the numerous shopping arcades. good variety of old and new shops. And we just love the old retro vibes here. Plus, it’s all covered, so you’re protected from the rain. This used to be a Taiwanese tea shop, but not sure if they’re still open. Oh, I think they are open. No, I don’t know. Are they? Oh, they are open. Look at this. This is a Taiwanese tea shop. Wow. I love this. Look at this. Suddenly, I feel like I’m in Taiwan. Okay, so we decided to check this tea place out. This is Taiwan Chaya. So beautiful. Look at this. This place has a lot of history. They’ve been in business for almost 50 years. Run by this really nice man. He loves Taiwan and that’s why uh he decided to open up a Taiwanese shop, a Taiwanese tea shop. This is the Taiwan Alishan tea that Satoshi got. And they make it the traditional way. And look how vivid the color is. Look at that. It is served with uh some local brown sugar. First isan tea. Oh, very aromatic. What’s I say? It’s a very beautiful like a flour. It’s not flour, but kind of like flour aromatic. Beautiful tea taste. M. So good. KTO. The black sugar. Goes good with the tea. the brown sugar. Oh, watch. It’s become really good seeds. The jasmine just hits you. So, here we have the jasmine tea. This is the one that I got. Oh, that’s very delicious. This jasmine tea is not only fragrant, but it’s balanced because there’s a little bit of bitterness, which I like. Having this tea experience is like the perfect thing to do in Naha on a rainy day. They have a variety of teas that you can try. Uh mostly from Taiwan. Of course, if you prefer coffee, they do have coffee. They have a cheesecake as well as toast. And of course, you can have a lovely conversation with a really nice man. I like the sound of rain dropping. Please, when you come to uh Naha, check out this tea shop, Taiwan Chaya. Really nice man. He’s so nice. I want to come back again. I want to come back tomorrow. So, this little bar here looks like it opens at night. The one right next door. Guys love bar hopping. Make sure to check this area out. There are some bars that are open already at this time of the day. Now, we know that some of you guys might feel a little bit more comfortable with a local tour. In this case, we recommend Magical Trip. We did a couple of tours with them in the past. We did a Hiroshima bar hopping tour which was amazing. Our local guy was knowledgeable, friendly. She taught us many things that we would have never known about. Uh they also have an Okinawa bar hopping tour which is perfect. If you are visiting Okinawa, so make sure to check them out. We absolutely recommend the people at Magical Trip. We have a uh discount code as well as the link in the description below this video. Check them out. I don’t know what the name of this particular area is, but this is like the older area of the show, guys. It’s a Sunday, so many of the shops are closed, but there’s this one cafe behind me called Lest, and they’re open from breakfast, like 7:00 a.m. all the way to 11:00 p.m. I really recommend it. Super comfortable, super chill. Love it. So, anyway, because the weather has cleared up, we decided to take advantage of it and check out this cafe. This is a cafe that I discovered on my last visit here. I hope they’re open today so we can have some lunch. I’m hungry. You hungry? I’m very hungry. Oh, the other thing about this uh cafe is that it’s right next to the beach. It’s right across from Namino Beach, which is the only beach in Naha City. You did this to me last time. I sure did. I sure did. Hello, Kisan. You’re welcome. Kimchi. Kimchi. Very good. Good choice. Thank you. Thank you very much. Thank you. Enjoy. So, we got our food. We got more food than the last time I came here cuz I was alone. So, I’m super super excited. I’m I’m excited to try it myself, but I’m also excited for Satoshi to try the food. Now, the great thing about this cafe is not only the food, but the fact that it is located right across from the beach. So, it’s like having a picnic with really good food. First, I got the juice. It’s a pineapple juice. Ah, sweet. I love pineapple juice. Okay, my mento lunch box is lyu chicken rice. It’s inspired by the Singapore chicken rice, but it’s Okinawa style. Okinawa flavor. So this is beautiful chicken simmered in the variety of ingredients and especially I amazed they use aamorei the Okinawa’s distilled liquor and this is a rice I think this cooked in the cooking water of this chicken. These are two sauce packs. You got some vegetables and pickled cabbage chicken. So Shini said this chicken is really good. M Wow. M. Look at this big slab of chicken meat, but it’s super tender. Tender than tender. It’s really nice and it has a beautiful chicken flavor. Aamorei makes this chicken meat very, very tender. Green onion sauce, ni sauce. Oh my. M. This sauce is good. Rice. Oh, the flavor of this chicken. It has a beautiful chicken taste. This is huchiba miso. Mubat miso. It’s sweet miso. These are very good combination for this beautiful chicken. This is kimchi quadilla. What’s a unique quadilla? I like kimchi. I like quesadilla. This is one of their best seller and highly recommended. M I like this flavor. Kimchi is not super spicy. Kimchi and cheese is a very good combination and it’s combined with meat so nicely for a tropical feel. I got guava juice. That’s so so tropical. Last time I was here, I tried their homemade sangria, which is amazing. But we’re going to be eating dinner and drinking there later on. I’d like to have a bite of the kimchi cassidia. I mean, this I really wanted to try the last time I was here. Oh, you didn’t eat? No, I only had the chicken rice. So, what m great combination of I think it’s beef with cheese and also kimchi. You get the savoriness and the kick from the kimchi. I got the eggplant and mango ka curry, which is also recommended. And this is something I wanted to try the last time. The rice comes with some fried onions and of course the pickled cabbage that Satoshi had. Look at all the ground meat with the soft eggplant. You got chunks of mango in here. I want to put a piece of mango there on top of the rice with some of the the the tequa. I had no idea that mango tasted good in like curry. It’s fruity. natural sweetness of the mango. I guess it’s like eating curry with mango chutney, but it’s not as sweet as chutney. It’s also kind of tomatoy as well. I think that’s tomato. It’s like such a beautiful blend of flavors. I think I like this one even more than the chicken rice. Oh, it’s so good. So, da time. This is brown sugar ice cream. This is it. So, the surface is beautifully caramelized. M brown sugar has a very nice depth. This cocktail is from Hatima Island. Brown sugar flavor is well combined with this custardy taste. The surface caramelized part is crunchy. I want more. This is your whole chicha scone. That’s a perfect size for dessert actually. M. It’s nice and crumbly just like how I like my scone. I do wish I had some like clotted cream or jam with it, but it’s a nice hoji tea flavor. Nice roasted tea flavor. I like it. Like I would love these for breakfast. Here is a namino beach. Unique point of this beach is this highway. But this is very very popular beach. And even though the highway runs right through the beach, the water is actually pretty clear. It’s it’s beautiful. It’s green. Uh right now you can’t really see because it’s kind of cloudy, but yeah, it’s a pretty nice beach. And the best thing is that it’s walking distance from Kokai Dhi in Naha. Our hearts beat to the city streets. We begin to feel the fire. We rise like tall buildings as the chemicals they take us higher. So it started out as a rainy day but now you know it’s no longer raining. I’m so happy becoming a bright. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So we got to eat at the beach. Did you enjoy the food? I love that. I knew you would. But now I want to take you to one of my favorite cafes in Naha. Okay. Okay, we’re going to go to a place called Scoop for some gelato and coffee. So, we got ourselves a couple of gelato. Going to order something to drink later on. This shop, I love I’ve been here before, I had the gelato flight. The last time I was here, if you want to see that video, it’s on my Shiniki’s World channel. I love everything about this place. The shop is designed by her name is Mo and um Harukisan and Mo run this shop together. It’s really beautiful. They have some of their merch here, including their cookies that I bought the last time. There’s a savory cookies and sweet cookies. I especially enjoyed their savory cookies. Super unique. Okay, our gelato is here. Here is the gelato. This chocolate one is using a on top of this tofu gelato. There’s a sauce. This one is made with showyu ki. So, I got double scoop as well. That’s the pineapple king. And then I got the spirited away which is a vegan one made with aamorei. M. It has a tofu taste with the the savory sauce taste but it’s combines really nicely. It’s kind of like like salted caramel, isn’t it? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Kind of like jam. Yeah. Mine spread it away. Although it has a modi, it doesn’t taste boozy at all. It’s actually really rich and kind of mild in a way. Oh, so this is the the golden barrel pineapple with a little bit of sauce. Chocolate with almond. Oh, it’s pineapple. Yes. I was like eating a pineapple. Yes. Here is a taste. Yeah, you can taste that. I wore it. It’s strong. A is a strong flavor but balanced. Well balanced with this gelato flavor. Other ingredients. What do you think of the gelato? Pretty good. Pretty good. Very good. Right. Very good. Yeah. We still have some time before dinner and so why don’t we uh check out a couple of shops, okay, before we go to dinner. Uh specifically CM YK and Hugh, the people at Scoop own these two shops, okay? And I said it on my other channel, but these shops are possibly one of my favorite shops in the whole area. It’s like really cool shops, and I bought like some stuff from there. Probably going to buy some stuff today as well. Anyway, let’s go check it out. It’s like right down the street here. So, we’re inside the shop. It’s a pretty small shop, but a lot to see. It’s like a treasure chest, literally. And there are so many things I love here. Everything is designed or most of the things are designed by Mikosan. Your designs are amazing. And um like I said, I bought their savory and sweet cookies. I recommend the savory. else about their chai. There are some like AR things you can do here. Like this is the Aamorei here, right? And there’s these uh QR codes. Yeah, like that. Look at message detail. Yeah, I know. It’s really creative. And this is the teneigu that I bought the last time with these magnetic holders, which I’m going to get one more. Actually, I want that. I think this is mine. I want that. Yeah, this is brand new. This graphic cap. Oh, that looks good. Oh, yeah. This is the Takahara coffee. This is the coffee that uh Satoshi had today. This is the chai. Think I’m going to get a couple of these today. This is your local mugs. Look at even like uh these uh graphic art ceramics as well. We bought a whole bunch of stuff as you can see. Anyway, we got to go to the second floor. We’re going to go to Hugh, the designer’s guild. Here we are. Check it out, guys. Hello. Hi. How are you? So, we are on the second floor. This is Hugh Designers Guild. And this floor has different uh items designed by people from Okinawa as well as around the world. Super super interesting. If you like design, they even have food stuff here. And we actually have this at home. This veggie taco rice. This is like from a vegan restaurant. I think all of these are like from this particular vegan place. Like this is miso, rice. Yeah. From the Ukishima Garden, which is actually right down the street. And these cookies right here are made by Lafra, the same people that made the cookies that I bought, the savory and sweet cookies. Yeah. So like I I I love their cookies like like hibiscus. Beautiful cookie. Yeah. Like shisa. And then um when I was here the last time they were have this lady was having a workshop here. Um the designers Jui Mama and uh she makes uh jewelry out of uh these uh bottle caps. Like these bottle caps that she finds at the ocean. She her hobby is uh surfing. And so she finds these things like this and she makes jewelry out of them. Oh. From the plastic. Yeah. And look at this. She uses things like this. This is made with like fishnetss. Oh, that’s interesting. That’s a good concept. Yeah. I really love that. And beats and bass. I believe uh this is a um Harukisan. Yeah, he does this cuz he’s a music guy, you know. So, it’s all like music related. And I also like this. I want you to on me every time. Okay. Today. Oh, no. Today I am off. That’s what it says. Thank you. So, it’s starting to rain again, but it’s okay. We’re just going to go to dinner. But check it out. I bought this the recycled up upcycled uh memo pad. Spam Musubi. Yeah, of course. I bought a whole bunch of stuff here. Anyway, you ready to go eat dinner? Yep. I’m hungry now. We came to Kaii for dinner. There are tons of Okinawan restaurants here, but this one is different. It’s called Kuninda. There are dishes inspired by what royalty ate during the Ryuku Kingdom era. Everything is made with care using Okinawan ingredients. No shortcut, just tradition and skill. Even the interior and table wear reflectan culture. We had an appetizer platter, mozzuku, vinegar, jim mam tofu, and this fishcake wrapped with a green onion. So delicate and beautiful. There was local sashimi, kubichi, minaru, tempura, latte, jushi, some dishes you may have never heard of, and that’s what make it exciting. The staff was amazing, too. Friendly, thoughtful, and happy to explain every dish. I just love her. She’s my new best friend. We’ll show you all the dishes in the future video, but for now, just know this place is truly special. Oh, today I almost cried. Yes, you did. He almost cried because of the ominashi of the lady uh at Kuninda. She was just so nice. I mean, so so nice. And I just cannot tell you guys how good the food was. This was the best Okinawan food I’ve ever had. And all day long the people we met today, so kind, so gentle. Everybody was so nice. Thank you so much. Thank you so much, guys, for your hospitality, for the passion you put into what you guys do. You guys make Okinawa such a wonderful place to come back again and again.
